  2. Cheers Robert. Yeah it looks like a better way of cutting firewood for the old back.

think i'm going to order one.

  3. Got job tomorrow where i'll be using steins with arborcoms and need to sort the wiring out...they hang over top of helmets and look like thye could easily get snagged on branch. I used to tape them down ..but tape has been peeling off..anyone here with same probs..what do you do with loose cables?
  4. 018 is a good little saw if you are starting out small. cheap and light enough to use up tree.
  5. stihl ms200 is the best climbing saw. You need that extra ower if you are taking heads out and need to chase the cut. Mind you if you are mostly doing reductions / thinnings etc rather than removals maybe its a good saw for that.
  6. floody ask moles!
  7. did myou see how they tie into stem after they have taken the top out?....they cut a notch into it about5cm deep into the to and use that as there anchor point! ...Never thought about doing that before..might give it a try.
  8. I priced a job about 2 months back. Was a big one. 3 Large sitkas to be felled / 1 massive sycamore to be removed..all 3 have to be climbed and lowered. 3 days work with 3-4 men. The guy asked how we do it and i explained that we are qualified climbers and how we will be rigging / fully insured etc. and gave him fair price on a day rate basis. He laughed at me..said he never knew eople actually do this as a job! ..says he can't afford to get work done..he will go down to local pub and find someone to do do it for few pints and packet of smokes. i told him how dangerous the job is..and a few horror stories about accidents. He just shrugged it off and said he could get up there him self and do it! What a Dober!
  9. ooooh..its a hard one. Either Euc / Beech / Birch. Limes are very easy to work with..silky cuts through them like butter and wood it very light...but do so many of them in Glasgow i am now bored of climbing them. Yeah got to be eucs.
  10. Good Morning. Up and straight onto arbtalk. Think we Must Be arbdicted. Work safe.
  11. thats weird! I hope you ain't going to start doing night time Grave digging.
  12. If we didn't climbing in rain in Scotland we would be only working 6 months of the year. Got a med size sycamore over a conservatory to take down tomorrow..prob going to be pissing it down like usual. Best thing to do is check weather forecast on Sunday and try to plan jobs around forecast.
  13. thats cool log holder on your avatar..i take its for hold sticks for cross cutting logs? Where did you get it from?
  14. thats exactly what i was thinking.
  15. bathroom scales only measure pinch grip. You have one hand grip / tight hand grip / thumb and index grip also. Rock climbers will have good pinch grip...but prob could't close Captain crush gripper number 1. Heavy dead lifters will prob have good crush grip.
  16. Enjoyed watching that. Good crane operator..takes those large chunks away from yourself very smoothly. Do you use the same crane operator every time you do big removals?
  17. Rings like these ones?
  18. No probs. You will manage it in no time. I leant my grippers to someone about a year back and never seen them again. Got got inspired to go order new sets from ironmind.
  19. Yeah the book by randel strossan is a good read. Treat training with them like any other training like going to gym and lifting heavy. Negatives on lighter grippers are also good / taking few fingers off etc. 3 - 5 Reps / 3 - 5 minutes rest in between sets / 3 x 5 days off inbetween training sessions. Best routine for strength
  20. I trained on captain of crush grippers about 2 years ago. Managed to close number 2 after 6 months intense training. Would train for 1 hr on them. By the book On ironmind.com it helped me a lot. Grip is one of the most impoetant elements is strength. when you grip things if you are pressing , chinning, or even gripping the floor with your toes while squating it makes all the other muscle groups contract harder. Just through doing grip work the rest of my training improved also. Watch out after you crush the number 2 though...beer bottles and pint glasses becaome very fragile.
  21. Nah. Been travelling and working loads mate. Just got itchy feet again.
  22. nae bother...mis-read the post.
  23. Have tried already..no jobs in areas we would prefer.
  24. Good Climber in Insch. Pm me for details. He don't thinkl he have electric tickets though..but none the less best climber i have ever worked with. Also another guy out in ryhnie who is real good.
