  1. yeah its nothing don't already know. i have spoekn to LA about it..and it is complicated..but if he refuses to get work done what can you do
  2. the neighbour does not want anything done to the trees. the trees are dropping large dangerous branches into garden where children often play. the costumer has asked the neighbour to prune tree slightly to make them safe...the neighbour has said No.! The costumers only soluton is to cut trees back to boudary. ( last option ) i have informed the costumer that the trees will be unsafe for the neighbour after that and the best thing to do is for me to write a letter before doing work explainng to neighbour that if he doesnot want to prune /deadwood trees then we will have to proceed with cutting trees back to boudary wgich will make the unsafe for him. This letter will hopefully make him deadwood/ prune the trees. simples. not stop being a numpty
  3. its not dirty tactics. neighour doesn't care about costumers property and even after beng asked sevral times to do something about trees the neighbour has just ignored them. many Large branches have fallen into garden and neigbour still doesnt care. simples..the law says you can cut back and over hanging branches and costumer has known this for some time...what he did not know that if he cut them trees back that far it would cause a major inbalance in the the crown. I explained this the the costumer. and if the neghbour does not care about his property..why should he give a crap about his??
  4. mmm. maybe i an't charging enough! I charge a day rate of 350 for private work...but we blast the job and get what will take most guys day we do in 1/2 day. I bring to job- new 15k truck new timberwolf 150. Insured 1 Qualifed groundsman. 1 load takeaway. i think i should be charging 500 a day. bollocks! time to put my quotes up i think...or i am going to keep on getting burnt out.
  5. yeah yeah...but the trees need to come down. If i was te costumer and trees were dropping branches into me garden with children there and the owner was not interested it getting the trees pruned..then i would cut back to the boundary..All over hanging branches.!! who comes first trees or people lifes??
  6. I have came across this problem several times this year. what about writing a letter to the owner of the tree . Tell him that the tree in in urgent need of deadwooding and is in a hazerdous condition. tell him you have given a quote and professional advice i writing to his neighbour and if he does. Tell him if anything happens he will be liable for damages as you have given him notice. Also hand it to him in person. I have had big probs with 90ft populars i have quoted recently dropping deadwood and major limbs into gardens where there are children. 1 limb about 30cm daim / 20ft long just missed house and neighour still refuses to get trees worked on. I tol the costumers just to cut the trees back to there boudary..whcih will leave the trees with massive lean towards there neighbours house..and see if they will start worrying about them falling over after that. lol
  7. dropped on a stihl 044 whith a rattling exhaust to get it replaced. Went to pick it up and they had put new spark plug, filter and cleaned the saw. told me the exhaust was fixed but it fell of same day on job i was on. dropped my climbing saw off because it was cutting out on me. told me they fixed the problem. went to start job and chainsaw kept cutting out..problem not fixed. Should i pay them for this type of service.? Really pissed at the service as its lost time and money on jobs i've been doing.
  8. i wonder how many people are using aspen because its a better choice for health are smokers? The whole big mac meal with diet coke thing going on.
  9. I send me quotes by post and do a follow up call to make sure they received quote ok and check that they are happy with price etc. I can honestly say i get about about 75% of jobs i price
  10. I am sole trader the now. I have just worked out the amount of vat paid in lst 2 years and would like to claim this vat back. Can i reg..claim vat back then un-reg?
  11. hahaha. that is exactly what i need to put on my next job advert. think i will cut and paste it. can't find any good workers in glasgow - i think they forget that they are working for me and not vice versa.
  12. i've used them. not very good. better off spending 200 on newspaper adds.
  13. had a guy come meet me and give demo. the secauters are awesome
  14. try the u s of a! consistant work. ok wage, nice senuritas, mexican food, sun and sea. aahhh.
  15. want to earn the money..then start your own business. 9 quid hr seems ok. thats 90 a day for a 8 till 5 shift.
  16. done a small 3 hr morning job today for 180 ( cheap ). 2 men and taking away debris. Gave quote and costumer was happy to proceed. Get a call after t time from costumer saying that i had ripped them off! she said that they are happy with work done but the price is crazy as it only took me couple hours and went on to tell me that i shouldn't be earning that much and if they earnt the same per hr they would be rich...i Laughed and told the costumer to get themselfs on training course and become a tree surgeon as the m oneys great! lol I ended up explaining my outgoings over the phone and doing the...i'm not a cowboy talk. ..but she doesn't care about that! she told me she wished she got her son to nip up the 30ft tree to take branch off....so i asked how would you feel if your son hit his neck with chainsaw and bled to death up the tree..just to save 180 quid!...ended up getting her to agree to pay me after a long converation like this for 20mins. Getting lots of stupid costumers this week...and my politeness is dissapearing fast!
  17. would he have took the risk to fell it if it was his won job?? Prob not! If you make him pay for it ..then i'm sure he will be far more carefull if you get him out again.
  18. good pics. buy a riggin rope though.
  19. felling them like that seems like a pointless risk. he could have felled most of those trees as ground level and since the job is dangerous enough why add to it by taking a away your escape route? i would not say its advanced techniques either unless someone can explain the science of the first cut?
  20. I got the catalog through . They have a guy climbing with the saw...looks like extra weight to humf around with the backpack. They have aewsome pruning shears though!
  21. yeah too much pressure on beginners like you say. I remember being fresh out of college ( 19 at the time ) started working for a large firm in aberdeenshire. Went out to remove a large 80ft ash in pissing rain with another 2 experienced guys. Because of the weather the sent me up to remove it and they sat in the truck...no idea what i was really doing but got on with it. way to many greedy employers that want green climbers to do all the tree work because they can get away with paying pennies
  22. Vidéo mmmm. Don't know what to think about these.
  23. that job looked like way too much fun! Good job.
  24. very nice. not too much taken off.
  25. got costumer who want me to move a 20 year old magnolia. they are getting extension but want to save the tree. any tips?
