  1. hey mb, just a note to say ive just re done my system and changed ropes from poison ivy to the tm tachyon and have also gone for stiched eye op8mm, when i first got it i was a bit dissapointed by the op and didnt like it but after 2 weks solid climbing on it it is now the best ive ever had it so when you get it give it some time because its not a winner for me at the start but once its bedded in its really nice. sorry for diverting the thread, i just think this is a point worth noting for the op. cheers
  2. your best way to practice is to work and to improve the standard and efficiency of work, i stretch but not for comps i stretch due to the rigors the job puts my body under and i wouldnt say a special diet but i like to look after myself and treat my body well its what makes my money so i have to. as for weights i do conditioning and stuff but not strenghtening, mind you i ride my bike alot and do alot of walking and now its summer the sea kyaks are coming out.
  3. is there gonna be any other advertising or just back to the topic???
  4. hi, i try and do a few comps a yr and me and two mates get around eaurope doing it and tend to do pretty well, we do train and train all the time, in the winter its more fitness and rock climbing due to the fact out side is cold wet and crap. then in the summer we do practice on work climbs throwline and rescue together and for some reason do footlock alone, i like to relax and focus. just depends how much you wanna do it and how much you care. i really enjoy them and know other people who love it. practice has to be controlled and precise no mistakes and get ur mates to be really hard on you and be critical about what you do. some people dont train and are very good but ive only been doing them for 3 or 4 yrs so have been trying to accelerate my ability by practice and it works. good luck hope it works out for you. ps the best people to listen to about comps are the ones who do them.
  5. was that merrist wood rupe?
  6. i just got a tachyon rope from nod and it had a splice he did on it and it looks sod all like that, personally id ram that down the splicers............. i know nothing about splices hence i dont do my own i pay good money to get good splicers to do it and that is a insult to splicers and anyone who climbs on it. id be going mad if i had that on the end of my rope
  7. to be honest ive only heard bad stuff, ive heard the quality of work isnt great and the speed over quality is huge, i worked in stockholm and didnt mind it but im now working in gothenburg and love it, not gonna rubbish the company but i thought it would give some contrast but ive never worked anywhere where everyone has agreed they are a great company. hope no one takes it personal.

    New kit

how are you gonna footlock on endless slings? do you mean like a rope sling, you can buy a 3m piece of 10mm rope and put a fishermans knot on each end and then have it running double. works fine itsheaps better looking with a splice though.
  9. ripper shooting, going for a shot at 300m with a crosswind is hard enough even with a sight but that shooting is a natural ability. as said before the spotter is the brains of the outfit and the sniper is the donkey work so to speak but not going to take sod all from that shooting, nice work.

    srt rescue

  11. never been asked for them, a good reference and rep is better than any qual. the etw is a good way to go but if you can build up a 'portfolio' of people you have worker for then you will be ok. im not rubbishing all quals but to be honest peope become ridiculously better than the qual which in my mind makes it good for a starting point but doesnt say what the person is capable off.
  12. dead set mate, im pretty lucky im not bothered about having people around me and not to fased about having a decent place to live so i just live with mates when i want a week off or im inhotels or staying with employers. i just enjoy seeing different stuff and working different places. mind you im still young and dont give a toss so its ideal, great way of saving money too, just spend ages in airports. good luck though i hope it works for ya!
  13. from my experience they also checked my boots and gear for saw dust so do a really good job on cleaning ur kit i had the pads off my harness and was hoovering it to get it clean, personally when i travel i wear my chainsaw pants and boots on the plane, have a bag of books and computer and camera as they cant weight that and then a big bag in the reqs for the cabin you will be able to get most of your baggage in there then ur climbing kit in the hold, climbing kit i carried to and from aus was a 60m line 80m access line harness helmet a bag of tricks and throwcubes and then a bag of extra bits like wash bag and all that. another tip is dont take socks and undies with you they cost sod all and u always wear em out so just take a few pairs then buy more when u get there same with towel. i dont want to offend any ozzies or kiwis here and hope i dont but the money isnt any better than the uk or though it is all case dependant i wasnt earning much to start coz i wasnt use to doing them huge trees, i would manage 2-3 40-50m trees a day and when i left i was doing 8-9 so was worth more but like i said it is all case dependant. the one thing they wont mind me saying is that the life style and the work is fantastic and is like sod all else in the uk, doesnt matter how good you have it in the uk those places are not overly populated and have nice areas and untouched beauties where as in the uk they just put a big ol fence up. if your young like the outdoors and have no ties i ask the question why the hell your in the uk anyways working? if you can do bro.
  14. i completely agree with you mark and especially the greenhouse statement, i just found with the ap it didnt have the longevity of the op, the ap tended to gunk up quick and not really work to well after a month or two and would need a reconfigure x's and braid variations to be specific but i found that the op would be ok and would need the courtious touch up to get the right length to start with and then a tinker when it had been used to set it again once it had been worn for a week or so. i also strongly agree with the bit about weight its something i never think about when doing my hitch's but is always in my mind about how what works for others is no good for me because im heavier or lighter than others. sounds like a good investment stu, now just have to find a way to pack that into the rest of the gear bag. have you tried the TM larger line at all? i dont know how this would fair for a shorter line.
  15. i have used both the op and armour prus and prefer the op over the armour prus, not sure what the fascination is with it but it isnt all its cracked up to be, or though saying that it would make excellent footlock strops. i would say personally i would go onto op and let it bed in but this is only for vt i cannot vouch for another knot. hows the rope stu, why the choice, is it better on the hands with the larger diameter.
  16. take your rope to a show and just tell someone who splices at the stands what the deal is with your rope and they will splice it for you be aware it will cost more than a splice done on a new rope, not sure though as im not a splicer. the biner thing is as peter said and i dont think the TM or DMM will design a biner because you dont want a rope splice done or cant get one done. like some one else said if you put it in the middle hole and do a fishermans knot you will be fine i had to use it for a week and found it fine, dont waste time with a bowline just do a fishermans. good luck though with it, see if you ring some companies you could send yourrope to them to get a splice in it.
  17. i have used the sips just recently and have a mixed review of them, they didnt fit me very well and they were a weird feel and also i agree with the pocket statement. i have used the francital ones for a year in aus and thought they were excellent much better than my previous strech airs, i would go francital every time they take a few wears to make them fit well but after that they are comfy and cool and are nice to climb in i did days in 40deg heat and had no issues.
  18. hi monkey boy, there are a few differences in the pintos to the other pulleys on the market, such as the loading becket and the bearing in the pulley on the larger diameter pulley and the profiling work done on the edges to make the sides of the pulley non abrasive to a rope rubbing on it. i really like them and see where i could use them in my system and use them in m set up but im only to aware some people will rubbish them as 'just another pulley' but i think they are more than this and there are lots of possibilities to be had with some creative thinking. when i get mine i may put some images for rigging stuff up with them. hope you find a use for it though i also think they look well sweet.

    S.r.t?

just put your line where you have a branch to move up on to or place it where you have something nearby to stand on, it is important to make sure you have a decent gap between your ascenders and anchor point because you will need some slack at the base of the tree to untie you tie off point. i have a haul bag with my rope in so i just use the weight of the bag to hold the line steady.
  20. id wait before you get one there are new ones coming on the market cheaper than the rg's and better for set up and retrieval. i use one lots but still carry a cambium saver too it can be usefull at times when a rg doesnt do the job.

hey danavan, cant remember the name of the ascenders id reccomend but ill post when i do its not kong or petzl though its one of the less well known ones. personally im using a basic and shock absorber and a hand lead and a funky foot loop and a 2 point attached croll and a locking pantin. works really well for me but takes ages to get right. just have a play and see whats about. mine still isnt perfect and have gained ideas from climbing in different places but am now finding what works for me. i hope it works for you and it can make sense to you. little things like weight at the bottom of the rope and what to do with the gear is also personal preferance. good luck though.
  22. start at 100 a day for a while then go up, none of this treat em like crap behaviour what is this the army. treat em well and let em work and give em guideance and encouragement and then they will learn and bust their balls for you pay em crap and make em make tea is just dumb. never done it never would happy as.
  23. will they heck i take loads of gear all around the joint and never been stopped not going into kiwi or aus or europe. no one cares theyre more interested in the saw dust and mud in ur boots.

start simple and work up i tweek my system all the time inc. ropes and biners and config so just play, id go with globe line and a handled ascender footloop croll and pantin and then tweek it and see what else people do i use a weird one where i got a basic as my hand ascender and use some other weird bits but it works for me and not others.
