  1. silver bull do a nice mesh bag itll take a 60m rope no worries, i like em i reckon if its gonna rain then u can spend to much time trying to kep all your stuff dry and then it doesnt always work so id get the mesh bag and let the rope breath, personally i use either the plastic tubtrugs i think they are called they are about 15quid and give ur rope the ability to not be bunched up and then if i dont have that i have it in the base of my haul bag. i had a sherrill one but broke the rods in them but i liked the fact they have a rod in the top to keep the shape so the sides dont cave in when flecking your rope in.
  2. i have had two pairs of akus and love them, really good solid boot there are others like evolv and some gronell boot but the akus tick all the boxes.
  3. ill send you some details on fb bro, heaps of work in europe at the moment mate its too easy. hope your good. when you back?
  4. im doing more work around europe and have been asked to give my personal liability insurance. i dont have this as i dont do work in the uk but run my business from here. does anyone know who would provide this insurance i have tried trust and they seem to think its not possible. any help would be great.
  5. to be honest the way i did it it i went to comps and met lots of other climbers and told them my plans and when jobs came up they would let you know, im back in europe now and am still getting offers for work. the people who know the most about working out side the uk are the contractors who work out side the uk there are enough of them. if you really want to find out about jobs and such id start by doing a comp and just asking people there when you meet them.
  6. hi rob, i dont know of any there but if u get some sent from melbourne you will be ok. i havent a clue about the industry in perth but i know the melbourne one is a good place to be depending on your employer. if you dont find any let me know and ill pm you a dealer.
  7. seems silly to take it down coz it has 4 outward leaning stems, eucs are pretty strong but do have the tendancy to drop limbs out the blue. personally id reduce the tree maybe not to much but just pull it in and monitor it. i dont think every time there is a tree leaning towards a house or a wall then we should remove it. im also pretty sure there is no evidence that roots can break through concrete or bricks im pretty sure it exploits fractures in them. seems like the easy option.
  8. it also has a bearing in the pulley which isnt really for climbing as it has been used thats just a proper waste of money but can be used in a rigging application and thwe pinto with the bearing is a 45kn pulley and without a bearing so just standard climbing is a 33 or 35kn pulley, same as the hitch climber its a bit of a waste if your gonna used a bearing made pulley for it when the non bearing does the same thing. but for rigging off of its heaps better and as rupe has said it also has its benefits with the rated beckets which in the vt application when tieing off to the becket it is then rated as before on stuff like the fixe and the edelrid pulley it wasnt. that should bore ya.
  9. i agree sh i never use them, got me some nice gear that packs down to the size of a wash bag and does the job twice as well and i dont have to carry a ladder everywhere, i think it looks naff to.
  10. bit of a weird one i think drew, i think they are like england not in the eu but part of europe, not to sure how it works but i know some companies need you to have health insurance and the rest is all easily sorted. nice work adam.
  11. i still like taking my horse and cart to work and sharpen the blades on my bow saw, none of this easy faggot balls chainsaw stuff. makes ya soft.
  12. no worries mate pm a over view of your work experience and i can pass it onto my boss if you want and maybe you could get something there. i agree with not wanting to work in the uk, i love working abroard its heaps good. oh yer and there are heaps of huge trees where we are. always climb over 100ft a week as standard ive done weeks when im fed up of doing big stuff and id rather do some smaller stuff. good luck fella
  13. hi guys, never had a tennis elbow but have got a reoccuring blood clot in my elbow. i have had it massaged and pushed and pulled and stretched and all sorts and the best thing i did was tail lock, vt, ropeguide, two handed saw use and really aware of work position. never been back to the physio well not for that injury, to be completely honest i would change the way you climb and the systems you use. failing that ive had the radiotherapy treatment and done the pool exercises and all really good stuff in my opinion. good luck mate any injury sucks and hope you recover soon. good luck.
  14. hey western i have never shown my boss mine. he didnt care about them and said they were useless over there. just got to prove yourself pretty much. its more about contacts and not having paper to say you can work.
  15. hey bm, i have a mate who has just done it in melb and know 3 other poms who have done it i wont be coz as much as i love the place there is so much more in the world to see. i know they found the process a drag and pretty tedious, i looked into it as my boss offered to sponsor me and it is a pain of a process the best way is if you wife has family then you can get in down that route which is better than getting a skilled visa i think the one thing i know is go and do a year there first and then se if its what you want the one thing ive learnt is that places arent what people make them out to be so be wary. dont get me wrong i like oz but it isnt where id like to live full time. with visas personally id go and see if you like it for a trial period and then if you are keen see about getting a sponsorship and if you dont like that idea then you can go down another route and get a family or skilled visa, all i know is when i was gonna stay and was gonna get sponsored the visa process is a pain in the butt. good luck though, wanna know more just ask.
  16. matt i dont think that you will find footlocking to be more ergonomic than srt. that just doesnt stand i see what you mean with the whole heap of gear but it is neccesary in some cases, where i am we only use srt and footlock isnt a option ive never seen any of the lads footlock. i know some guys in oz that have had operations on elbows thanks to footlocking and not tail locking or using a pantin. they still climb now but will not footlock even if it is a 30m ascent they only srt due to the less stress on the body. not having a dig just stating a few facts, i think it is good when we can learn from others and in this case i will never be footlocking unless in a rescue if i have to and in a comp.
  17. you can use two i think the french do it for a method of footlocking which saves the load on the knees, they just use a set of kongs/ascentrees on the upper. pantins are good the only thing i dont like is having the pantin come out when ascending on srt but you can get a small snap called a shadow from dmm and these are wicked. they go through the hole stop the cam from popping and are easy to get out at the top. josh to be honest your set up sounds good if your not using srt and do large trees then it could be worth looking at, also using a small prussic on your lanyard can help with work positioning, there are a few small tricks you can do in and around the tree i dont think its so much about the gear its how it works for you and if its worth putting on your harness, i carry a bit of gear and may only use it once in a while but when i do its worth it.
  18. i go with the fitness thing and also just to get better, quicker, safer. and to stop bying shiny things
  19. fair point, ive just never been to keen on the smaller ones though it does make sense to have them especially if all i do is take down smooth eucs. no real need for the long ones i just prefer the way i work off them as opposed to the short ones.
  20. i used the short ones before i got my own and got long ones for my own set and for some reason i prefer them heaps to the short ones, what would you reckon the advantages are to the short. i can see you would have a better connection to the wood as you would be minus the distance of the longer spike. i normally find spiking threads boring but i like this one nice work.
  21. never heard of a qualification in spiking, i think this would be better on the american forums, you may get something here but id be surprised. good luck though.
  22. ive done this a few times at work and the way i found best was when you instal the access line when about 3-4mts goes through the anchor hold the line and do a alpine b-fly and clip in a pulley and krab, then put your climbing line through and pull the rest of the access line up till you are at the point you want the anchor (normally the top) then tie on your hitch and pull it up to roughly where you want it to be then srt to it connect and disconnect from srt rig. you can then do the work you need to do head back to the srt rig recconnect and do the rest of the ascent or head to ur next part of the tree when u get to the top remove the climbing line and advance or easily just work off it and then retrieve all at the end. i dont like to compromise the entire line so by placing the pulley at the top you can still be rescued and the whole line can still be used. ive done it a few times to save a lot of aggro and isnt to hard at all and works well. hope it helps.
  23. no worries cheers for the link.
  24. id love to say im jealous but im flying back to melb in a week and its about 30-35 degree c. the only problem is is you cant take more layers off in that heat. good luck with it.
  25. hey james, the bigger companies will normally give you a one yr visa that means you have to stay and work for them under there rules which can suck if they are rubbish but can be good because they have to give you a certain amount of work a week. im looking into one now and its a heap of give and take to be honest. try some of the bigger companies or see if the smaller ones will give you cash. bit cheeky but who cares. hope it helps. good luck
