  1. What websites are you guys using to look for machines of any king really I'm guessing if your buying you have done the research and would have some good links. Not meaning to derail your thread I would just find it useful. Thanks
  2. Cambium saver won't be a terrible idea and maybe a 12oz throw weight and a small biner to use as a throw weight. Both things I would use in a start up kit. Good luck
  3. Just a heads up got broken into last night by people trying to get my tools luckily they weren't there but the thieves took my brother in laws bikes and mine to the total of over 5 grand. I'm just outside of Milton Keynes and had lots of gypsies looking for work recently. I think we've got away lightly with the livelihoods untouched but our personal items have been hit hard. Look after ur broom.
  4. I used to live in oz and worked in a particular area a few hours from Melbourne and everytime I was there I would get this reaction to the gums on this one site, dunno if it's related but I've definitely had this before I used loads of water straight away then some aloe Vera cream rubbish and that sorted it.
  5. Been thinking the same thing too but abit further in the distance yet. Just out of curiosity what would you see as a fit day rate for a van chipper climber and all the gubbins, i been thinking about what I'd be asking for but want to know what you would charge or what others would feel is a good price to pay I know there are so many variables In a price but was thinking a ball park figure. I think if people have plenty of work in then it's a decent way to cull the work load down without owning another complete set of gear just sending one of the groundies with you or maybe bring your own. Good luck with it though.
  6. That's one of the most sensible thing I've read on here in ages. Good post
  7. A guy on here I work with does the same as you on days off walking and all that he is called dilz have a chat with him he's right into it all. I was up sundsvall a few weeks ago and it is a pretty cool area. Josh's advice sounds pretty good to me I'd go with that but dilz knows a fair bit too. Ben
  8. Samson I think do a cord called hrc and that's really good too. Not sure about cost difference but I run it on 11.7 and its great. Another option
  9. It's ok if it's mike he has no hair left this is all he has, I'm well mate hope you and fam are well be good to see you soon.
  10. Paul I think on the page before you asked how much the wage was its a load more that you would be on now. So why would you not want to work but be keen on knowing wages.
  11. Hi matt p yer send me your details we are still collecting names and details for work in the future and ill get back to you. Paul and joe I think this is great sour grapes are a pain huh.
  12. We're you here recently the suns been out and it's been cracking weather t shirts every day at the moment it's great not like the minus 25 a few moths ago that was crap
  13. From 2 weeks initially up to the end of June I have replied sarron but if I type here it will save me having to reply to the same question lots.
  14. Hi, I'm in need of one maybe 2 climbers in goteborg for a rail project, there is a broad range of work to be done and lots of it. The pay is much better than the uk and all accommodation and travel provided, help can be given for flights if needed. It needs to be a start as soon as possible so don't worry if you can't come for a month pm me for more details if serious. Ben
  15. An mate gonna head off for a year of rock and ice in Europe. Then states with the missis.
  16. Hey Adam I did a week while waiting for the new ozzy visa came through but nothing to extensive I was too keen to get back to climb all the burnt trees which where mad fun. Dunno if I fancy it now over there got eyes on pastures new after this year. As for the cambium saver thing I didn't specify what I was harping on about to much. I was referring to using one for pruning and takedowns where you head to to the top remove as much as poss then work off a anchor for the rest. To me not using one here is a bit crazy for a few reasons. I also feel in the case of the guy falling from the tree this could have been avoided if the cs that lives in his bag was used it would have isolated a point on the tree for him and allowed him to not slip off the peg. If the guys seen the advantages enough to buy one then why not use it for something so simple. I do agree a peg would work but we have to fell the timber for usage in a mill and any pegs are a huge no no even collars on the tree are not allowed it means the tree will need doing again when it has been felled. It's been interesting seeing the sides put across and I can obviously see why they are left sometimes and some of the points are very true but working in a garden would the pegs not just need cutting off so branches can be chipped and wood stacked tidy. I remember being told that if you remove the branch then the peg the groundy will be charging about picking up pegs at the bottom of the tree and dropping half on the way to the chipper. Peter what's a black top I'm not familiar. Or is it a typo.
  17. He slipped of the peg he had left but I always thought it was easier to just pop in a rope guide or cambium saver and come down and leave a clean stick. The peg was too small to decend on hence the fall. It's not a huge fall but its the fact it's a fall to me that's important.
  18. The incident happened when descending from a stick waiting to be felled the guy didn't use a guide or cs just descended on a small peg when he got half way down say 10ft from the ground I saw him stop then start again then fall. When I asked if he was alright he told me he was fine and that sometimes happens. When I asked why not using a cambium saver I was told they were not efficient. On this job we have no time pressure or targets and the safety point is spoken about all the time but I've been made to question if what I do is right by 5 guys doing it different or though I know in my head they are mostly wrong. The problem is trying to get the message across as a lot of the guys have done more years so refuse to listen to someone with less years. As for what's been learnt in the years I can only speak for myself just made me think a hell of a lot about the mind set behind some of the reasoning.
  19. Steve that was my opinion but I've been told otherwise, I wasn't sure if I was being unreasonable when speaking to them about it and the reply is not for before 9. I'm baffled by it all. Peter If your on the peg buzz it must be ok.
  20. Hi, I left the uk 4/5 years ago after a nd course and a apprentice stint with what I consider a good climber. I left and went subbing around the world and learnt a lot. Here's my question recently I been working with a lot of uk guys outside the uk and have been blown away by the work that's done in a bad way. Pegs on takedowns people falling out of trees, no use of a cambium saver and no ability to control wood or timber to the point I saw a large oak blocked down in 1ft pieces with gob cuts. The climbers assure me they are good and are nice guys but I can't get it in my head that its right. Am I being a nob by thinking its below average or would this be acceptable. Maybe I need to chill out but it seems way off the mark. Hope to hear some interesting replays. Cheers
  21. another thing to consider is when you get into outdoor stuff if you dont already if you do sport or trad you wont want to haul a arb harness to a crag you will have enough other crap to carry, if your in the uk you can run it all through your business. works well.
  22. where do you live, i been looking at a place in tremp recently. dont know much about the scene over there and dont want to do so much work but thought it would be good too see what the go is.
  23. i got rid of my tachyon as it twisted all the time went to PI same hitch and set up and no problems. for me the rope is no good but im sure it works for others.
