    Blue moon?

i climb on blue moon found it to be a amazin line. i do question the splice it comes with as mine has been re whipped and lookin at a re splice because the factory one leave s a lot to be desired other than that best line ive used yet. pete if your worried about the colour then try takin your dress off and it may not be such a issue
  2. no idea picked it up in turin to try out over here. i personally like it. i think it is really well tailored to the blue moon coz its a softer line. to be honest i started playing with configurations after the hitch climber came out and thought it affected my set up. so had to start playing more and think im goin full circle back to op. if your comin to newport give me a shout and ill let ya have a play on it. im impartial on who to buy from but ring around and have a word.
  3. just started usin 3:3 on a vt. its a cord called bail out on blue moon. really nice to work on and very responsive. been tryin to find a good set up for ages. i think u have to view the whole climbing system for what it is ...... a system and if some parts are not workin with others well or not doin there designed purpose then your system has a higher potential to fail you how ever you put it together. everything was designed ffor a purpose and i try to keep things in my system as compatible in shape and size. what im tryin to say is you can have the best system in the world and be over safe but if you have snap gates in your syastem for holdin your hitch in place then it all goes out the window coz the gate is gonna massively let you down. think that makes sense. hopefully someone can see my point.
  4. i got some black walnut that is great for handles and looks great too make a knife handle and a saw one and they are the nuts pm me your address and ill send you some for the knife if your interested.
  5. just recently visited milan after the etcc and was walking in and around milan and came to a park where there were two massive ginkos there. i had to look twice coz i couldnt believe it. we looked at them for a while and guessed them to be 80-90 (realistic) feet. when i get the camera cable back ill post a photo. does anyone know where the champion ginko is. i remember reading something about it being behind a buddist temple somewhere.
  6. in regards to the topic on hitting the spot i have found that trying to hit above and beyond the target massively helps. i used to try to hit the target and always bounced off of it and now im a pretty good shot and most trees take minutes to secure a line in (many hours swearing at my kit). i see the point about the pole and if i hadnt already got used to throw line id be there tomorrow but the dodgy throws and annoyance pays off. another thing ive done is have lines in four different trees so we can get out of one and into another to save time between climbs. loads of possibilities, good diverse tool.
  7. i think the reason they pulled out of the comp was due to the way they were on friday night. to many cold ones i think. i heard they had caused problems and were generally making a show of them selves so the college pulled them out. only heard this on the grape vine though so dont take it as hard fact. i just hope there werent lads from capel who had put effort into the comp and were trying to get there heads down and couldnt and didnt get to compete due to their mates. as for the axe men. what a opportunity missed. always put on a good show.
  8. done a nd arb at sparsholt and went on to do the foundation degree and found it very basic and also found the course to be easier than the nd so i packed it in. now starting the foundation degree at myerscough in the autumn. have been told its much tougher after talking to people who have done year 1.
  9. i have a mate who is a looking for work in the manchester area. finished college last june and has all the neccesary tickets. generally a good lad who just needs some work. good hard worker and keen to do more climbing/grounding. as i said this is not for me but the lad has no internet. if you know of people or can help pm me and ill send his number or take a relevent number. hope someone can help. cheers
  10. what is this all about. the thread seems to be about people who believe they wear their nuts on the out side coz they are gonna take down big trees and people jumping on board and saying how they want to help. this is all s''t got money on it some of these people have 'tree care' in their names or on advertising and i see no care in removing trees coz of the age. obviously i havent seen them and cant say but all old trees hollow for stability purposes and i see no remarks as to using them for conservation or allowing the trees to live on except as log wood. in the industry where we are all to happy to criticise up and coming lads and people who we class as pikeys we even slate female climbers and generally put people down. well this i see as no exception to general pikey work. some bloke who is to wrapped up in tv and people patting him on the back and not actually thinking about the trees that were here before him and should be here after him because he seems to believe that he has some devine power over determining the fate of a feat of nature. examples of the brilliants of trees should be promoted and made for people to see why we have the facination that we do. not so we can talk crap in the pub to people who dont care. i see this as no great achievement but as another failing in our industry. the slap dash attitude and self belief of greatness over nature. makes us no better than people who plough through woodlands to build a road. just the thoughts and opinions of a guy who actually cares about the job he does.
  11. the yellow edelrid throw line is really good. big a is spot on with the hanging thing. works well. harrison rockets are a beauty a 10and 12oz bag do the trick.

    any good??

the black diamond half dome can have brackets put on it so you can put ear defenders on it. i climb in one and find it really comfy and have no problems. beats the vertex any day. a good summer helmet is the mammut one. not sure about attachments for it coz i dont think you can get them but glasses and ear defs are the way forward. pretty sure i saw treeworker with some at the aa show.
  13. i tryed a saw pod but felt it fell down and like the silky on my harness. it would stop me from having them together but i like to keep cuting tools and lanyards on opposite sides. i see it as to easy to have a accident and dont want that. if they are on opposite sides there is no confusion. good idea though.
  14. does any one know of organizations where you can do seed collecting or canopy research. all of the ones i have found have ladders up to the canopies or are not slightly interesting. any help would be great. also if anyone has done any of the above advice would be great on how you found the experience.
  15. i found some one who had some dead wood in there trees. asked if i could deadwood them for free and in return climb the trees when i wanted. the trees are near a path so they were really keen. still climb there now and have since got paid work from the people which has paid for my gear. score
  16. sorry got it wrong i hang my tools on the right and lanyard on the left.
  17. i have a couple of suggestions for this problem. i have found with a good choice of biner and setup on the harness combined with choice of scabbard has sorted the problem for me. i hang my saw and silky on the right and my lanyard on my right this is because i am right handed and when i draw the saw with it placed on the left it crosses my climbing line to get the piece i am cutting. could be a drama so best to eliminate it i think. i have also used isc snap gates to hang my tools. they go in the area where most people have caritools or the black diamond ice clipper. i also have a leather scabbard from weaver that clips up high on the harness. the silky is infront of the saw for the only reason that i do more silky work than saw work so it seems logical to have it closer to hand. its all down to what is comfy though and what works best. hope you can use some of this to help.
