  1. yer its pretty much that it is a good thing i just dont seem to get the right balance or maybe its the wrong cord it can be a mix of things. im real fussy and either dont enjoy my line or cord so i change alot. ive heard of people finding it a tricky thing to adjust to but i fully believe its the way and reckon you will enjoy it just make it work /suit your needs.
  2. hey tree tomass, just a quick note to say i have a friend who has been thrusting for years and the other week when i was working for him i lent him my rig because i was fustrated to see him working hugely hard body thrusting when he could use my rig and save effort and time. after a 2 min play on it he started his next tree and after the next day of him using it he loved it and is now bying a system, and for a man who isnt a gear head i was happy to see him enjoying the advancements. there and many different variants and many different additions you can put in the system to do other things with it. i think the best thing is to start by keping it simple so you can understand what is going on. then tinker it to your needs. the self tend issue is as stated above it is a real job to get it right, my hitch doesnt self tend and im not to bothered about it. there is a good book you can buy on knots and is really good to use for many knots and hitches in many applications. have a look at my rediculous link the tree climbers knot book is the one and worth every penny. good luck with it Literature - Treeworker.co.uk
  3. ive seen and played with it in a srt set up but havent managed to perfect it. its used instead of a ascender (petzl ascention) works well but needs a softer rope than a dyneema one. pretty good though. can u explain ur use better maybe its staring me in the face but i dont get it. cheers.
  4. gutted im just about to fly out of vic and could have got ya a heap its free at work so spewin i cant help but i can sort u some out when im back im sure or leave u my prussic so u can play. if its any good give us a shout.
  5. nice work bro shame didnt catch ya in melbourne this weekend no bother though. prussic looks good as whats the line u lock on and how does the prussic handle fl'd on codzas 10mm arm pruss at vic and was good as just much money. nice work though mate.
  6. i use the carbon fibre spikes and have done for a while and love them i didnt see the real difference till we wwere on site and had to remove a extra tree instead of prune it and i did the tree and borrowed some spikes i find the carbons are way more comfy and much better fit on the leg. thy just feel nicer. saying this i was only on em for three hrs and didnt get a few weeks out of em but on initial impressions i wanted my carbons back. the sloppy foot velcro is a issue though but ive seen some people with the buckingham ones on there as replacemnets and used them and they seem good just not sure how they fixed them on.
  7. hi a lopa if u need climbers u could sub them im sure if u needed them for certain trees especially if u needed big stuff doing. were in kilmore and have no luck with climbers got so much work on and just not enough fellas but the boss is very paticular at who he uses. pm me where you are and ur company name and maybe we can sort something out. at least the weather is on the up ay, that rain was getting a bit to pom like for me.

  9. bloody oath mate its good as, love it here would love to stay but only 24 so gonna keep moving till i get tired of it then ill move back and do four yr stint. nz is on the list too. we dont do 200ft all the time but they do come our way quite alot. did a month straight of it and that was savage as got some prety cool pics too, you coming over for the vic comp in a few weeks.
  10. hi guys, im currently living in aus and have been for the last 8 months and will be here for another 6 before trying something else. i came here after the fires and have been involved in that i should mention i work just out side of melbourne. reading the stuff above i think it is all true with regards to go have a look and do it and also the stuff about the pubs and history is true too but i think what is missing is the fact that or though australia is relatively new it does have its own culture i didnt want to go to a city or work for a pom here i wanted a good going aussie business and a aussie family to be close too and i got it and have loved it. australia does have a culture but you have to be in it to realise it i think and i love it. i would also say that the companies do vary i was working in sa to start with and hated it the boss had one yrs experience 10 times and was just a idiot. but then came to vic and have landed on my feet. the work is pretty good too some weeks you will be deadwooding at 200ft and up and others you will be in universitys doing 50-70ft removals and some days doing weight reductions in the city. the work is so varied and very good here and i am going to come back for four yrs after doing a few more yrs of traveling. absolutely love it there are the drwbacks of family and having to start over but its a small price to pay to live the excellent life i do. if you do come out all the best to ya.
  11. hi mike cheers fior your reply, i appreciate your findings in research but it is not some thing i am to worried about. we have put a sheath on the slings due to the construction of the actual sling and the pulley is spliced in too to eliminate the karabiner element of rigging. i would how ever be very interested in seeing the results of your research if it would be ok to see what we can do to improve our systems and see what you have reccomended for replacement. it is also worth bearing in mind that for the company im working with we do lots of removals without rigging and if we do it is natural crotch rigging and very infrequently we will use pulleys and lowering devices. this is mainly due to the size of sites we work on and the size of the trees we work in. i appreciate your help in this but we will not be changing the slings unless some evidence comes to light that means we are seriously miss led about what we are doing. many thanks
  12. its prettty much tenex bob, its yellow in the uk but here its made of dyneema and blue in colour on the out side only.made up some whoopie slings for the boys and need to get their sheets to em so they can start using them and the boss wont let me give them the slings till i have all the paper work. more boring net time i think
  13. just made a load of technora slings for work and need to find out some information on them ie mbs, sfw, and just general info so when the boys get isssued them they will all have the right information of the capabilities of their new sling, i have just looked on the net and cant find them and have looked on samsons website and cant find it. if anyone knows where i can get info from id greatly appreciate it. many thanks:thumbup1:
  14. check ur face book mate, sent u message a while back in the baby thred.
  15. i have a set of these and use them every day for climbing in. i used to use stretch air and dint get on with them and i find these a really good fit and nice to wear in terms of comfort, my boss gave me two pairs of husqvarna stretchy trousers to use but they do not compsare at all. as stihllearning has said i also have found they can rip pretty easy but to be honest i think with what ive put them through im surprised i still have em. if u climb every day then go for it but if you do lots of forestry then maybe not such a good buy. i also found them relatively cheap too. cheers
  16. the reason for the knot where the stitch is is because this isolates the stitching which is the strongest part of the sling and means that as long as you are loading through the knot then you will always load on the stitch, as above though not a good idea to climb on but can be used for different applications in climbing. hope it helps.
  17. na you can get it in ozzy too, dunno where the boss gets it from but we get it in 25m rolls. monkeyd you can get it in 8 and 10mm it can be used as a friction hitch at both sizes or footlock prussics in 8mm are good and its great to use as a footlock line in 10mm just a bit pricey. making a pole belt up at the min dont know how itll go. to get it to the uk is really expensive unless you know someone who travels between oz and kiwi regular
  18. try noddy at treeworker, i dont know how busy he is or what he is up to but i know he does them and is good. if i was back in that area id take it to him if i was going to do one. good luck with it
  19. to be honest mate i find that just chilling and making sure i hav a sound route is a good idea. keep a good high anchor and look and asses branches, i agree with drew ill re set and re direct to get good solid work positions. i double wrap my lanyard and use slings if i have to. try and be as comfy as u can too. i found it hard to do wt trees and now im in aus and th bark is so smooth its a nightmare to work so i look at the tree more u will know its right whn ur comfy on the ends with two hands on th saw. good luck
  20. are there any reviews of this boot out yet other than the manufacturers one. would be interested in a pair. has anyone here even got a pair and had a few climbs in them to see how they handle.
  21. hey, just noticed ur post and thought id reply, im in au at the moment and im working in the bush fire area around marysville, im doing the contract of clearing all the bush walking tracks and making them safer than they are now. all the trees we climb are around 150 - 200ft and we climb em three days a week. we use the tues and thurs to chill and on the climbing days we may do three each. its bloody hard going and esp on a friday when you are just drained. there are still some huge trees here heading up to 300 but they are in secret locations, ive been doing some research on some in tasmania which are poretty big and a few of the climbers here are planning a trip there at some point to meet up with the tazzy climbers and just have a few days of climbing. interesting thread though.
  22. im just working in the bush fire areas at the minute and it is incredible how much they can take and what comes back, im gob smasked all the time. its also weird what we are felling well not weird just some huge trees coming down and doing some massive fells of150ft plus but the regrowth is awesome but here it is different because the regenerate in the fires but yer fire damage is unreal, makes ya clothes pretty manky too. ill get some photos on here next week im heading up to the worst area for some fells so so ill get the carnage on here
  23. too much to list but it all gets used and all has its place, something i have noticed is how it all changes everywhere you go some places use lots of srt some do footlock some do kongs and all variants in and around, it depends on what the score is where you work and what trees you do and what that company thinks is a good idea. each to their own

    Tachyon

yer right its chilling off here and im going off my line now, got the gloves out too, the days are good just chilly as in the night, i wouldnt say dont get a tachyon to be honest i do like it as a line but i would go for a blue tongue myself, i think there are so many valid points here and they are all good but the main thing i have got from this is that we all have our own preferences and do things a little different and thats great. as long as we are all having fun and doing good work then let the good times roll
