  1. Should we be encouraging more young Britons to be Doctors and Nurses?...YES. In the meantime, should we encourage qualified migrants to fill the shortfall?....YES My missus just gave up nursing after a 30 year career, she'd had enough of the NHS and greedy people putting profits and costs before patient care.

  3. we are all targets for these people, they network and share info about us, our tools, plant, vehicles and security arrangements. Get together with local tree firms and do the same back, share vehicle types and registrations, names and locations and any other intelligence on them...its a two way street. Make it harder for them to steal your kit by fitting trackers and remote alarms covered by CCTV...and be prepared to react to it 24/7. If the Police are slow to react or dont turn up at all in your area, get a group of willing men who will respond to a call...and you them...and practice deploying into the area of your yard. Go through various scenario's and how you will deal with them if they arise. We all need to be proactive and deal with this threat realistically, being proactive will lead you to a video of yourself being robbed and grinning faces walking free from court...you have to catch them hands on...with or without the help of the Police - and deal with them accordingly. Good luck.
  4. we've been sold right out for weeks, too busy to cut what seasoned stuff is left on the pile and can't get anyone to do it for us. On top of that, had orders for 15 cube in this week which I had to turn away...ah well...can't sell what you ain't got!
  5. -7 here in Essex this morning and 6" of snow. After yesterday's 2 1/2 hour drive to our worksite, which is 29 miles away, we've sacked it and lit the logburner.
  6. Freelance climbing isn't something you can start off in the industry. Your better off starting with a good company, building up experience and contacts. Starting off in Arb is hard enough, but I wouldn't recommend the deep end of freelancing, it's unpredictable and variable...and you'll always be a spare man on the team.
  7. Reggie the Patterdale is growing fast and becoming a proper Arb dog!
  8. ha ha!....indeed! 'circumstantial evidence' case dismissed along with a long list of others....
  9. worked next to this beauty the other week...its still growing, the steel band is adjustable and needs loosening
  10. whilst were on the subject of bashing the BBC I was interviewed by the BBC about a burglary at our yard, I gave an account of what happened and the interviewer asked me if there was anything else I wanted to add. I said I wanted to thank the Police for turning up so quickly, giving chase and recovering our stuff. She rather surprisingly said 'Oh we dont want to big them up too much'. When I watched the programme, they had edited any positive comments about the Police out....an agenda, or was it just a personal slant?
  11. Lovely place Khriss, hopefully there will be more funding to do some work to the ones that need a helping hand to stay upright!
  12. Great kit...but most of our jobs are too narrow to fit it in...we rarely use it...
  13. Simples. Just get a bloke down the pub to do it, or wait for one of those ubiquitous cards to come thru the door...maybe you could get your 'magnolias and fruit trees thinned and sprayed' [emoji57]
  14. nice work mate. we've been doing similar work for our Wildlife trust for about 18 years now.
  15. The awesome, veteran Hornbeam Pollard's of Gernon Bushes in Epping
  16. It was about 10 years ago, I think I got them in the BTS shop, off the top of my head
  17. good luck with that mate, Ive found just putting a new driveway in kills them stone dead. Anyone moved one before?
  18. I always get leather boots and Nik wax and Dubbin them. I get at least 2 years+ out of a pair. I used to wear Haix, but the soles fell off a pair after 3 months and they wouldn't exchange them. I've worn Meindl ever since and the quality is Unbeatable..look after your boots and they'll last longer and keep your feet dry [emoji1360]
  19. We run an ms461 great saw. We also have an Echo 8002 and a husky 395xp (which I'm about to get ported). Big saws are hard work up a tree, I find changing climbers helps...especially on those long, hot days.
  20. Every non 4x4 tipper I have ever used, has got stuck on wet grass. Just don't drive them off road. If you need to, you need 4x4.
  21. I would say, the majority of people who voted to leave in the referendum, did so because they would rather have an elected, independent, British Government - rather than a committee appointed, Federal European one in the near future. All the rest is an aside.
  22. I've tried it and must say I prefer a pulley up top and the friction at the base. It's fine when everything runs, but when you get a piece caught up, it's very difficult to pull it up to free it. I only use mine for small stuff and as a redirect now. Each to their own....
  23. I suppose freedom, democracy and sovereignty, means less to some people than money?
