  1. Kajaki....I'll only ever watch it once...gut wrenching reality in Afghanistan with 3 Para
  2. Well, my branch are unable to do anything until Monday morning. This has prompted me to move my accounts to Metrobank ASAP. They seem to have a much more positive attitude to business banking, 7 day access to business managers...no more 2 week waits and 'hello Mr Hunter, hows the portaloo business going?' for me. Goodbye HSBC!
  3. Just been down to Metrobank....that's more like it!. Open 7 days a week, business manager on site every day...no appointment necessary, free banking if youve got £5k in. Looks like HSBC just lost a good customer [emoji112]🏻
  4. I wouldn't put it past him...little horror!
  5. All of them, with the exception of Brian Blessed, who should be King of England 🤴🏻
  6. Training our Patterdale pup to perform aerial rescue [emoji2]
  7. Any tinnitus and arthritis t shirts.........pardon?
  8. I got a letter telling me to update my details on an online form, which I couldn't access. Been to my branch 3 times to try and resolve it. I don't do phone banking...so they have given me notice of account closure. I'll have one more go at resolving this or I'm off. Disgraceful customer relations...they gave me a loan last week! 🤡
  9. Is anyone else having trouble with HSBC over their 'safeguard' security settings?. They have just told me they are going to shut all my business banking down in two months...shoddy way to treat a customer who's held an account for 22 years [emoji35]
  10. I've been with NFU for a few years now. Last year I had the chipbox stolen off my landy 130. Took me a year to get a payout....useless. I recently tried to add my sons Suzuki Jimny as a pricing up vehicle...they quoted mr £12k!🤣 I won't be renewing [emoji107]
  11. It's more use keeping the container door open than that! [emoji38][emoji1360]
  12. Logs are a bit of a sideline to us. If I sell enough to pay my yard rent I'm happy. It usually involves delivering logs on what was going to be my day off!. We've got lots of seasoned stuff...didn't sell half what we usually do last year. This year it's moving ok, we've got enough room to store the green stuff and we've got enough seasoned to see us through the winter. Just need a way to shift our softwood and make more room!
  13. she looks like shes done a fair old bit of goblin in her time....
  14. I had a flat tyre with 3 tons of Oak rings, ready to split...Will didnt have room for it...thats well stocked!. We had to stack it roadside to get the trailer back...it was gone within 24 hours...now thats magic!
  15. I'll get a pic for you next time I poke my nose in the rigging bag
  16. No. I gave up the moral high ground years ago. I attempt to change people's minds, but if they are adamant....we get the job done. If you don't, someone else will.
  17. expert economists cant agree what will happen when we leave the EU...so us bunch of tree gimps have no chance...that said, we can all say what we THINK might happen. What will not happen, is that we will not adopt the Euro and we won't be part of the Schengen zone in 2020...as was planned. The EU is in transition to become a Federal State, its members will have no autonomy. We will not be part of that...but we will trade and join any military misadventures the EU is blundering into. That much we do know!. What will it be like not being part of the European Union...just look at the rest of the World...most Nations are not part of it. Carry on - like we did prior to 1998, 1993 and 1974.
  18. 1. Topped out my anchor point in a big Lombardy pop 20 odd years ago. Luckily, it got caught on a stub, I always climb 2 Krabs and they locked off. Lessons?....don't let the customer talk you into doing 2 days work for one day's money....take frequent short breaks, in shade, when when working in hot weather. 2. Last cut on a Friday syndrome - anchored in to the same pollard head as I was lowering from. Cut a piece too big and ripped out the lowering pulley...leaving my life line in the remaining part of the fork. We were working over grave stones and a spiked iron railing fence☠️ The piece sailed past my ear, followed by the lowering pulley and 50% on the anchor point, just missing the groundie lowering on the Hobbs. The groundie on the tag line never let go off the rope and was dragged through several tombstones without hitting any. How to take out a 3 man crew with one piece of wood!. Lesson - don't rush to chase light by risking rigging failure by overloading. Never use the same anchor point for your lifeline and lowering pulley...if you to, do it in several small pieces [emoji15]
  19. Whoopie slings and 24mm split tail with a timber hitch for big stuff. My mate made me up a daisy chain in 24mm tenex...saves a lot of time resetting the block on vertical section rigging
  20. glad its sorted mate. When my 550xp starts its unbeatable performance wise, its just not reliable enough to take on site. I've got mates who got 'good ones' which are fine until they get heavy use on a hot day...then they are like mine. I think part of the problem is the variation in quality control in these carbs being put in saws these days...that and trying to pigeon hole 2 stroke engines into EU emissions laws.
  21. if you can, try climbing on other peoples set ups. I climbed Hitchclimber with a Knut, I tried 3 different cords until I found the perfect one for me, which self-tended. I have a old left-wrist break from a parachute accident and had to give up the hitchclimber as it was causing a lot of swelling and discomfort in my joint, which i had to strap up and put on ice every day. I went over to a lock jack and rope guide and the problem was sorted right away. Now I climb on a zigzag as I find it more ergonomic moving within the crown, ascent/descent being the same as a LJ. Luckily for me, I had the chance to test climb all this kit before I threw money at it - dont reinvent the wheel...:)
  22. I've spent £1200 or so on them mate...and got poorly performing crap. Maybe the technology will catch up with the desire for sales one day, but I'm sorted for a few years now...with Echo and stihl and husky old rebuilds. I've said it before, but keep your eyes open for a 35cc top handle saw from the likes of Echo, which performs as well as their cs2511...it will take the ball out of Stihl and Huskys hands and make them listen to what arborists actually want.
  23. 'The Navy spotted a small boat'....your 'avin' a barf mate! A fishing boat picked up a large submarine just outside the Thames Estuary last year, on its 3D fishing sonar. When it was reported to the Admiralty, they said 'none of our subs were operating in the area, your mistaken, its a shipwreck'. The fishing boat skipper replied 'your shipwreck just moved off to the south-west at high speed'. True story, my mate is in the RNLI.
  24. just got 3 saws back from him. Superb. TBH, I'd rather get hold of a 357xp and have it rebuilt and ported than invest any money in a trashy new Husky or Stihl. My ported 020T knocks spots off any 540xp or 201tc...I'd forgotten how good chainsaws were before the EU emissions laws spoilt the party
  25. a mate of mine recently left the Army. He did all his tickets as part of his resettlement training and jumped in with both feet, saws, truck, climb kit. He quickly realised he lacked the experience to get out there, win jobs and do them quickly enough to make money. He sold up and became a scaffolder. He now makes more money a day than a fully experienced freelance climber at the top end. Thats the way the job is. I always tell new blokes...expect to earn next to nothing for the first couple of years...then just enough thereafter!. If it pays the bills and your overheads...your doing alright. Its a great trade...but if its money your after...look elsewhere. Tree work is a hard dollar.
