  1. I'm the product of Anglo-Scottish liaison...my Dad was from Kilmarnock!. I'm glad that Scots voted to remain in the Union, but somewhat disappointed they voted to stay in the EU. In answer to the question, if the Scots wanted Independence, they would of voted for it. Scotland would be another poor EU Nation if they broke away from the UK (in my opinion). The Catalans are different. They would probably be better off, they are 16% of Spains population contributing 25% of the Nations GDP. Breaking Sovereign European nations into Independent regions is not the way forward economically, even if its what the people in those regions desire. Spain would break up if the Catalans left...no doubt the Basques are thinking of kicking off again already. I'm glad the Scots voted in a referendum and I'm glad we got the chance to vote to stay or leave the EU. The results of both referendums should be respected by all, they were supported by British Constitutional rights. The Catalan vote is outside of the Spanish Constitution and is not respected by the Spanish Government, or the majority of the Spanish people. Its a tricky one.
  2. Spain is not Britain...their civil war was fought within living memory (just about). I pity the Catalans and their obvious desire for independence....but I also get the Spanish desire for National unity. Spain is not in a good place economically - they have sold their souls to a Federal Europe...there's no going back now for them. Catalonia produces 25% of Spain's GDP...no wonder the Goverment is doing everything it can to maintain National unity...without them Spain would undoubtedly collapse.
  3. The EU pretty much decided the result of the referendums in Eire and the Netherlands...they just kept holding them again until they got the result they wanted...in Hollands case, they over-rode the decision not to join the Euro. Thats how Federal Governments work. As for Spain, the Catalonians obviously want independance, but this seems a bit like the SNP holding their own referendum and declaring themselves winners.. Everyone should vote and the result should be respected by the Spanish Government.
  4. thats what I meant mate. We didnt vote on Scottish independence, they did...and voted to stay in the Union. In Catalonia, they also voted in an independence referendum (not the whole of Spain - and without the consent of their (Spanish) government. The Catalonians have voted for independence unilaterally...do they deserve to break from the rest of Spain, or does this decision remain in the hands of the elected government?...
  5. yep,now I'm nagging him to post 'before and after' pics...we use our business FB as a blog

    Ouch.

nasty!...everytime people post a pic up of some shonky old dead tree...and people say 'I'd climb/rig that!', I think of situations like this. MEWPs arent exactly that expensive to hire....just put it on the job and arrive home that night in your truck...not a pine box
  7. well, after some thought, I've deleted my FB account. I'm finding myself wasting valuable time scrolling through pages of waffle and arguing with people I dont even want to talk to. Now I'm clean and getting all my phone calls and invoicing etc done as soon as I get in!. My Son has taken over our business FB page, I'm done!....anybody else cleansed their soul of social media?...
  8. hmmm, in two minds about the Catalonian indy referendum. I'm a great believer in people power and such votes...however, Spain is Spain and the majority of Spaniards would vote to keep it intact. Imagine if the SNP just held their own referendum and told us they were breaking away from the Union?. Either way, the Spanish Police are heavy handedly, being used for political purposes - sad to see....
  9. sadie kahn - what a pest this man is....cant we go back to just having nutters as the London Mayor?
  10. Awesome!...I've won a flight in one of these in a raffle...well chuffed...always wanted a cabby in a Tiger Moth ❤️ Sent from my iPad using Arbtalk
  11. I've gone for two vehicles. A landrover 90 for tools and a 130 tipper for the chip. I have two trailers, one 10x5 tipper and one 12x6. We can fill the 130 and tipper with chip one day, then go back with both trailers and take out the logs, usually in one lift. Everyone's different...but it works for me....we do a high percentage of off road work. The biggest drawback is having pre97 licence or trailer ticketed drivers. Sent from my iPad using Arbtalk
  12. BUMP! Id be very interest in a review of these trailers too, any got any feedback?
  13. Haix used to be the best boots on the market. I bought several pairs over the years. They have cut the quality in the last 5 years or so. My last pair lasted 3 months before the sole fell off. Same happened to another climber I know. Don't buy em!:thumbdown:i
  14. just had a call from this company, anybody had any dealings with them?. Sounds like a good idea, IF it works! tenders4u.co.uk
  15. Lock it or lose it fellas!....it's nearly Xmas time, thieves are on overtime...
  16. I've used Geoffs 620...I have to say, it's the Badgers nadgers, good value too. I run a 450, its a good gound saw, a bit heavy for what it does, but it starts on the 2nd pull...every time. Just what I want next to the chipper
  17. My 550xp is light, well balanced and cuts superbly....shame it takes 25 pulls to start. It's been in and out of the dealers....By far the most unreliable saw I've had in 20 years. There seems to be a huge problem in quality control, as lots of people on here love them!....husky just lost another customer.
  18. Just goes to show, sometimes paying more money doesn't guarantee the best kit...I an quite surprised though, Ive had Pfanner stuff for years and it's been top notch. Petzl Ecrin Roc is the best I've had by far...and it's no great drama to fit the Stein PTT comms muff on it.
  19. I'm wearing mine, now :thumbdown:its cooled down a bit (way too hot in summer). I've taken the honeycomb pad out of the top. The earmuffs and visor are good, but I miss the coolness and adjustability of an Ecrin Roc. I won't buy another one.
  20. Let's face it fellas, if you want to earn good money here in the UK, get yourself out of the tree game...and into something more lucrative. Yes, you can earn doing Treework...but you an a lot more doing a lot less in many other trades and your not so much at the mercy of the up and down British economy.
  21. Corbyn is a communist, Cameron all for the rich...take your pick of these two idiots, because the system is designed to prevent much needed change. British politics make me shudder 😢
  22. You still wanna swap my 550xp for anything similar that works Felix??
  23. agreed. I have a 261C its bloody awful....what with that and my 550xp...I've totally given up on E-carb saws. Ended up buying an Echo 450...no fireworks there and not my felling saw of choice...but its 100% reliable and starts on the second pull - everytime. Oh, and guess what...my tendon problem in my right arm has cleared up!
  24. I've had the same problem with mine for 4 months...been back to dealer etc, etc...the way I'm sorting it out...is swapping it for an old Stihl MS260!
  25. I bought a 550XP four months ago...its been back to the dealer as its a very poor starter, but the problems persist ...in fact I've now got tendon problems in my right forearm because of it. Its great when its running...but I have no place for such machines when I need dependable chainsaws on site. I have just swapped it for an old MS260. I won't entertain another 'electronic' carb saw...I've had 2 bad purchases this year, not happy
