  1. On there side is fine, I would not think upside down.
  2. What symptoms made you change the slave cylinder????
  3. I only ever sharpen my saws, fettle the bar when I fit a new chain and occasionally knock out the air filter. I never clean them. They very rarely let me down and I have never not finished a job on the day due to a saw paying up. I think modern saws need very little maintenance and pulling them to bits may do more harm than good.
  4. I agree with you 100%. We need less state and people standing on there own two feet. Unfortunately I fear we are too far down the "nanny state" road for that now. People think they are owed a living and will sit on their back sides rather than getting out and making their own way in the world.
  5. I'd get to bed if I were you.
  6. Don't give an extra week, that weakens your case. The tree is dangerous, give the 5 days required, then get it down. If you wait longer they may argue it's obviously not as bad as you claim.
  7. Email the TO, giving 5 days notice, then get it down. Ring your tree man, explain the situation and ask if he can recommend some one who can do the job NOW. If he can't or won't recommend some one tell us where you are and a few guys off here will give you a price and get it down.
  8. The problem we have is its very, very difficult to get to the truth, the powers that be will not give us the facts, but the conspiracy theory propagandists totally exaggerate every thing. So the facts remain very illusive.
  9. Good thinking guys!!!! I think you should defiantly all quit the pages:thumbup1:
  10. I really don't now why people are surprised by this, the only reason we have nuclear power plants was to produce weapons.
  11. Would there be any chance of forming some sort of syndicate with family or friends?? You could all work the land as and when time allowed and share any profits made. That way you could follow your dream in a fashion and at least the land would not be totally lost. Its maybe not idea and there are pitfalls that need to be avoided, but it just might work.
  12. I thought the same, I think in that pic the crane is much nearer the camera than the tree. That is one big tree and looks like it was removed in a very efficient manner
  13. Of cause these muppets on the show were "rogue trader", but they are not alone, what about all the sharp practices from the banks and financial advisers, selling insurance that will not pay out or other products based on the highest commission for them, not the best product for you. A very large percentage of people out there are just looking to squeeze every possible penny out of any one they deal with, if you think about it too long you will just become bitter and twisted. Forget about what others are doing, just concentrate on your business and your customers, I often think 'How would I feel if the price I have given was given to my mum?" I'll never be rich, but I do OK and sleep easy in my bed
  14. Honesty is the only way mate. I think it often pays of in the long run and often immediately, just yesterday I went to look at a decent sized Ash at a church, they had been told it was "dangerous", it had a small cavity where the bark had been knocked of years ago, but nothing of any significance. I told them straight away that it was fine and I would certainly not remove it because of that. I gave them a price for just tidying it up and then pointed out it was destroying their carpark and was beginning to move the retaining wall. I suggested its removal and the planting of two more appropriate species in a better location. They thought that was a great idea and booked us for the job. Would have been real easy to look at the cavity suck though my teeth and say "Oh yes thats nasty lets get it down ASAP".
  15. I have an old flat belt driven rack saw, its built as a tailer that was pulled and powered by a traction engine, it has a 48" (I think) inserted tooth plate. I bought it to cut timber for my own use and because I liked it, but I was kidding myself, I don't have time to play with it, so I'm going to sell if your interested PM me. It was on the old Arbtrader for a while and some one said they were having it, but never came.
  16. If you buy 2000L or less of red (gas oil) its classed as a domestic purchase, so charged at 5% VAT.
  17. Not at all, but if some one has had a real bad day and things have broken, they are well into the overdraft and feeling pretty skint, they come on hear and read that others are having a similar time, they then feel it not just them, they are not a failure, things are just tough right now and business is not easy. However (please don't this the wrong way ) if that same person has had the bad day, overdraft, skint, etc, comes on hear and just reads posts from someone saying how well things are going, how they have made loads of money, bought loads of new gear and life is great, they may well think its just them thats struggling and they are a failure. So IMO we need both, its good to read that some, like you, are doing real well and we can try an pick up some tips on how to try and emulate your success, but its also good to know that we'er not the only ones finding things real tough right now
  18. Once you allow an item to be repaired under warranty you have to allow them to keep fixing it within reason. For a refund you need to asks for it at the first fault. Thats my understanding anyway.
