  1. What if you only have one rope?
  2. Why??? Chippers have never been cheaper or more plentiful, my chipper has to be the most cost effective and profitable machine I own. The day I bought my first chipper my business was revolutionised, I just cannot understand why anyone would even consider tree work without one
  3. This is the unfortunate truth. Many established firms are barely surviving at the moment, there is just not enough work for the number of operatives.
  4. I'm in Lancashire the fuel stations are all back to normal now, I can't see things being too bad in Yorkshire.

Some how I doubt thats gonna happen.
  6. skyhuck

    ladders !

Ladders are for window cleaners and decorators, they are also the work of the devil.
  7. People like you creat the problem, you constantly make excuses for peoples actions. People need to take personal responsibly for their actions. People make excuses for being fat, for being alcoholics, for have to much debt, for smoking, for being dishonest, etc, etc, etc. Life is harder for some than others, some get a better start than others, but thats just life, regardless of how your brought up you know the difference between right and wrong, just seal from a crook of beat a violent man, they soon get upset and they know exactly how their victims feel. I have no interest in making excuses, people should be held to account, if not where does it end, you blame the parents for the kids, but what about the parents parents and their parent?? where does it end??? And as for blaming society, we are all society, including those kids, so they are still responsible. Plus we are not allowed to intervene, if we do we get locked up, so how can it be our fault.
  8. Unfortunately many people only behave well if they are in fear of the consequences. Those consequences can be very different for different people, it can be fear of god, fear of loosing there status in the community, or fear of prison, etc. These days the consequences are much less and there is a good chance there will be none. If your brought up properly you do whats right for your own self respect and would feel ashamed to behave as many do, but many are not brought up properly. In previous generations there were more men who did really hard manual work, if a youngster got out of hand, they got flattened, as working men were must stronger than youngsters. This is no longer true, so they fear no consequences and just do as they wish.
  9. Yeah right I guess their poo smells like roses too
  10. But 70% of the time you could not offer anyone any experience, as your not running your own jobs, that leaves you with 30% to offer, surely.
  11. So really Scotty's comment was valid, you would only really be able to offer 30% of the experience of some one doing their own work all the time.
  12. In this day and age a chipper is pretty much a prerequisite for tree work. Not having one is a bit like trying to do the job with a bow saw instead of a chainsaw. I had no chipper when I first set up, but that only lasted months and I would not have even considered trying to build up a decent business without one. As ever, this is only my personal appinion.
  13. Mercury is a metal, not sure why you think thats relevant. I have carried a combi can around for the last 20 years and would have thought it was similar in weight to water.
  14. Wow, never knew that, I presumed it weighed similar to water.
  15. Lee, if its all lies why do they need a smoke screen???
  16. I've worked with a few women and the odd big girl, but no females.
  17. Sure they are Thats why they reported on the WMD dossier:biggrin:
  18. So the truck weighs 2 tonnes?????????????
  19. No, just leave and get another job. We have so much legislation and even a minimum wage, exploitation has long since ended, except to those stupid enough to put up with it.
  20. You need to start listening to radio4 mate The gas leak is from a well that was capped 18 months ago, there several mile exclusion zone for boats and many 1000's of metres for air crafts. They are currently trying to extinguish the flair flame on the rig.
  21. Nonsense, the unions worked when they were small groups of works back early in the last century, people were being truly exploited. In the last 50 years they have done nothing for the working man and are not needed. Look at the fire fighters, they saw the tube drivers on £35K and thought they deserved the same, but the difference was that they were struggling to get tube drivers, so upped the money until they could fill the positions, where as they had over 80 applications for each fire fighters job, so why pay more?? Our economy is controlled by market forces, its not perfect, but its got most of us to a far better standard of life than most of our ancestors and at least its impartial. Do we really want to move to a system where wages are government controlled or where those who get together and make life difficult for the rest of us get more money???
  22. Did you get the grease gun out while it was so accessible???
  23. It is very tough and unfortunately not every one who wants to do tree work can, there just not enough work. Prices are being driven down by too many cutters and not enough work. I guess if people are prepared to work for nothing or very little for whatever reason (well paid wife, other passive income, whatever) then those like me who need a decent income will go do something else. It does seem that some people so like the idea of tree work that the money is secondary, for me (although I do enjoy some of it) tree work has always been about providing a good life for my family, so the money is my main concern.
  24. So we should all hold the country to ransom to get our own way??? Many tanker drivers are on £45K, its hardly surprising that there are some undercutting these rates by using cheaper drivers.
