  1. I saw that at their firewood demo tour. Very nice trailer come with the stags head leavers too. Thats our botex 570 on our 10 tonne euro trailer. On a 100hp tractor and it does struggle with a full load. In fact just pulling the thing around you feel it back there. Good points with the Botex cranes is that is a potential >2.4t lift depending on what grapple and rotor you have on. The reach is either 6,7,8 meters depending on the model. Steering drawbar is standard. Bang for your buck you'll struggle to beat a botex. That one extends which is a nice option. Ewan in the parts department is good too. He stripped a trailer of it breaks in the yard as i needed some. Not so good points are that as said very easy to damage the stabiliser legs. The rams are fairly cheap as it happens a lot. The heating the mounting points up with the torch and nudging the back true with the tele handler is not cheap or easy. If you get the longer cranes its very easy to knock the top off the extension cylinder couplings and pop the welds on the pipe. Its a 700 quid ram on the 570tl as the fixings are welded into the cylinder. Also taking an extension out fitting the ram and putting it back together again is a pain. Farma not had any working experence with but their new generation of trailers look very nice. Not as powerful as a botex but well made. Kesla cranes are proper forestry cranes lack lift capacity still 1.5t range but so much faster on the crane controls. Also a lot more thought is put into the hydraulic lay out. So a lot less things to knock off. Their trailers are very very well built. What it really comes down to is what your budget is. If you want to spend 6-8K then you might get a well used botex. Or a brand new 6 tonne farma. If you want to spend 40-50k then all singing all dancing Moheda/kronos is for you. A lot depends on forwarding distances too if your doing long routes then you don't want a 6tonne trailer.
  2. It's fine if you have a 20t pull skyline carriage. Otherwise its a PITA. As for Dutchmen cuts tried them. They're OK but i'd never have the stones to use them how they do in the states. House 32"DBH Pine using a dutchmen to throw them away from the house. Not for me.
  3. In Finland the work is normally fields in the summer and woods in the winter hence the valtra/Valmet tractors. They have flat floor cabs with a spinny seat. You can have the windows all done in marguard if you so desire. The biggest thing is the extra ground clearance you get other other tractors. Although Fendt do also have the options for higher clearances. Only downside is the 8000 series which are fantastic forestry tractors have the turning circle of a super tanker in field work. The newer A,N,T,S series tractors have been pushed more towards farm work than forestry. Around here there are a lot of farmers using Valtra.
  4. Shame. Lets hope if they do it again in 2015 but with a bit more thought and effort than the last few years.
  5. Yes Stenner are still going in Tiverton. Quantock engineering wiveliscombe do set up and instillation of them. They know a lot about all these old woodwork machines. Bring them upto current spec and the like.
  6. Just you or do you have 4 people?
  7. Have used the smaller Stenner 42. For 2,5k its an absolute steal. Of course you need the barn with the relvently placed pits for the lower flywheel and drive motor. Then you'll need the extra channeling in the concrete for the 3 phase cabling. You'll need all the pillars made too for the bed to sit on.
  8. Cant you get a roll of Oregon Havester chain from any dealer and make your own up?
  9. Quoted for truth.
  10. Been playing with my 550 a lot recently. Running a 15" with a semi chisel chain and even my friend who never uses anything less than a 576 with an 18" full chisel loves it. Only have two gripes first moving of the felling line from the top back to the center, its thrown me off a bit. The other is that the air filter lets a fair amount of crap through. Although the 576 is the same. Done some big trees with it last week had to have the middle out the larch for the 15" bar to reach from each side. Cutting that and cutting the first two lengths really showed that its was in as big as you should go with it. It eats Birch like its butter:thumbup:
  11. Mine has done 75ish probably closer to 73. Other than new tires, new front discs and pads and new ujs on the front prop nothing major. Although its service is next week.
  12. RFS level 2 in arb or the level 2 in arb as it is now. ISA cert Arb Level 4 cert in arb (old tech cert) All options to consider before the degree or as well as. I'd do the Lantra PTI as you'll need it to do inspections anyway.
  13. Finger bar hedge cutter? one of the clark flails? [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sFWHpdkTxjU]Slagkraft Chain Swipe Mower - YouTube[/ame] Not sure if it comes in smaller digger size. Chain Swipe Mower | Land Cultivation | Clark Engineering
  14. the balance on my 550 with the 15" bar on feels a bit lighter than the 346.
  15. I have a 346 and recently upgraded to the 550. Much much better saw i have a 15" on mine although it will go down to a 13" for super cutting efficiency. I would get another one tomorrow. I feel its not far off the performance of a 357. If you want to run an 18" id get a 560.
  16. Hi Broke my stove glass a Dovre 250. Seems to be lots of glass suppliers online. Any recommendations of who to deal with before i part with my money. Cheers.
  17. 020T 12" - hardly ever used 346xpg - 13" bar 550xpg 15" bar 357 xpg 13" bar/15" bar 576 xpg 18" 365 20" bar 390 xpg 28" bar MS660 36" bar 13" 357 and 15" 550 are my two faves
  18. Why do the slew pots face forward? Does the crane tilt back and forth? It looks like a very nice i want it.
  19. He is. Did my CS33 with him. Spoke to him recently about getting one of our guys on a 30/31 assessments. He said he didn't do just assessments had to do training as well.
  20. Nick is a top guy. Did my 30/38 with him.
  21. I see their truck on the A41 sometimes. Wasn't as good as the Larch i felled on countryfile about 6 years ago. Hit everything on the way down and took for ever:blushing:
  22. 6.5 tonne should do those trees. Although more is always better. Whats the cable diameter on that winch looks about 13mm? Igland, Uniforest, Krpan are all good.
  23. Arb did some nice winch bumpers for the Navaras.
  24. Are they replaceable nose sprocket.
