  1. Not sure the figures will add up is my first feeling. How many years of 1000m3 of thinnings do you have? The biggest cost is having a good harvester operator. They can make or break your production one who pushes too hard will cost you in down time and one who is too conservative will not get you enough wood to cover costs. As for the harvester you looking at a 770 A or B? still going to be a big sum of money. Base unit will be ok but depending on hours work and drive pumps could be on their last legs and hard work to change in the field at least. With the 810 forwarder rear bogies are easy nackered by overloading so something to be warey of.
  2. That is one tidy county.
  3. A new krpan 9.5 tonne winch with radio remote is around 7000 + vat. Might be cheaper than a used island.
  4. You may already know but if you phone the dealer they will put you in contact with the nearest user for a demo. Does open you up to lots of dealer sales calls though.
  5. I'm afraid not. If your thinking of the little ones they're too big/heavy to go on a Landy trailer making them only moveable on lorries. Charlieh on here has an Alstor similar forwarder to a Vimek but is landy towable. A friend of mine drove some over in Sweden, he went to the factory too. He wasn't overly impressed with them. Or the cost come to that.
  6. Been running it for just over a year now. Never (touch wood) had any problems with it. Prefer the auto tune to be honest.
  7. Most of those timber will rot out really quickly exposed to the weather. The other thing you need to consider is the strength over a 20' span. I think Oak is your best bet. Alder might be Ok. If i was doing it i'd use Elm for anything in contact with water and sweet chestnut or oak for the structural work.
  8. That is brutal full contact medieval battles.
  9. 576xpg 20" bar. Nuff said.
  10. How is reenacting different to LARPIng funny though.
  11. Jealousy would be my bet.
  12. Caught the last 5 mins. What a lovely garden at the end their. Nice to see the right tree for the right place message.
  13. We had a clevis hitch on the chipper it's self for towing a trailer. Never did use it though. I think all you'll need is an extension for the drawbar remember the weight you can tow goes down the further you extend from the back axle. You could weld one up yourself but it would need to be strong enough for the job.
  14. Roof mount crane and a tractor trailer will get it out. You'll need a low sided tractor trailer with some home made bolster pins. 4x4s work well. You could just handball it onto some tractor forks.
  15. Love the soundtrack. Very clever about felling the stick into the truck.
  16. You do need to work out air space in the stack. You need to measure a section and count then number of billets and the area taken up by those billets. Best thing is to get yourself a copy of the blue book. That has how to measure the stacking coefficent. Treesource Silviculture, Woodland Creation & Management Cost per tonne varies. £30-60 quid a tonne. Really depends on this little equation. standing price(m3)+Felling cost (m3)+extraction cost (m3)+profit = roadside price.
  17. I'd of thought £4/Hoppus was a little on the high side.
  18. Where abouts and for how long?
  19. Ah yes they are ALO forks and grab. Two long forks two short. Have a cherry tree 4 in 1 bucket. Very nice.
  20. I didn't realise they were. Tried asking an agri supplier for one?
  21. Give an Ostio/physio a phone call tomorrow and they'll sort you out.
  22. Saw one on the Rytech roadshow. I can't quite remember what caused my reservations with it but i think it was the bearings on claw. I thought the Albutt log grab was far better for the money. Have a look at single claws to go on a set of pallet forks. Still the bearing is the weakpoint but so so versatile

  24. How do the resin inserts hold up as the bars wear a bit? I have 13" solid and light weight. Just wondering if their are any longevity issues with resin inserts. Other than then potentially popping out if you bend the bar.
  25. I would put much faith in a chipper that says it will do 8" but yet will go on a cat 1 linkage. I'd of thought you wouldn't have more than 30hp at the back end and a lift of maybe 1000kg although i don't know for sure. Look at 3-5" chippers if you need one.
