  1. You wont be disapointed with the 576xpg. Seems silly really that you cant get the big saws with heated handles. You really want them on the higher vibe saws. I'm sure there were some MS660 with heated handles around for a little while MS660 W i think they were.
  2. All depends on how much mud:001_tt2: I've got stuck on a slope in the snow loaded before.
  3. a 90ish hp tractor will pull a 10t trailer fairly easily. As kneeling on the seat it is a right pain especially with tractors with a step in the cab rather than a flat floor. As already said if you can get a spinning seat in then it will be well worth the money. If fact if its a old massy seat just do your back a favour and get a fancy air suspended seat that comes up to supports the back.
  4. Chainsaw, Construction, CPS Training, Courses, Qualifications, Mid Wales Based in Wales but i'm sure they can come to you.
  5. You will need a 22mm spanner to do up the grapple hoses when you knock them loose. You may need two. Oh and a 3/8 BSP female female hose about 1m long will also be very helpful if you spend any time on it.
  6. Use the extension and dipper together. Dont put one boom straight then extend the next one.
  7. Hi I have a 550xpg that i got in October last year. Best saw I've ever had until yesterday when it gave me no end of problems. I've never had any problems with the thing until yesterday. When i got it i set the auto tune and following the start procedure never had any starting issues ever. So yesterday it ran for a while and then had hot start issues. Then cold start issues. Got it going and then re set the auto tune but still wont start, idle or run properly. Had it running today but it would just cut out and had some chain creep at idle. Any suggestions.
  8. I was felling stuff at the beginning of Jan that the sap was up in! So far this week Sweet chestnut is rising Birch in bud Beech in bud Sycamore in bud Going to be some wet stuff in the firewood stack.
  9. That new holland looks ok. Thing with Valtra/valmet is they have the forest ground clearance. Their forestry pedigree also means they hold their value very very well. Hence the 8150 with 10,400 hours on Arbtrader for 18k.
  10. Hours aren't that important really its how well it's been cared for in that 6000 hours that is. The Delta power shift is the only thing that could start to give problems. Transmission is generally solid and the engines are 6-7 liter 6 cylinder jobs by Sisu so they're solid too.
  11. Bandit. Built to last and very powerful. If you get a 12" machine you never have to trim out again. If you can physically lift it in the hopper and the rollers can grab it it get chipped. Not used a smaller one but i imagine the same runs true. Not to mention you get top notch customer service.
  12. Heated handles can be a pain. I had to go direct to Husky to ask where there were not 3 357 and a 390 with heated handles in the country. He said sir there are stock says 6 357 and 2 390s. Who is your dealer he asked and i told him he said oh him. Needless to say they arrived 3 days later. After 3 months on order from the dealer. You get use to the 395 chain brake handle. I went 390 on the break handle design but in reallity the 95 version is just as good. Currently got a 20" on the 390 and it is mental.
  13. The rams are quite reasonable priced. If the cylinders are ok might be worth a quote on just getting the rods done. Try hopespare in Hemel Hempstead. Other than that you just need to heat the legs up bend them straight and do the same for where the legs attach to the chassis. I think it was over a grand for the leg that i did.
  14. I got it a while ago mind. You could always get a 395xpg
  15. Yes it is. I have one.
  16. Been there done that:001_tt2: only did one though. Did you break the rams too; i did. If you need new rams order them your self as browns charge you a fortune for them to pick up the phone and phone Ewan at Wilsons. Since i broke the first leg on a stump 18 months ago i don't use them that often anymore.
  17. I'd like to run all .325 for the 550,560,357 and ms261. More husky stuff than STIHL hence the way i wanted to do it.
  18. Hadn't thought of going up on the husky gauge to .063 all round. Take it you import you skip chain from America?
  19. Forwarding in the soup. So so so wet the legs sink a long way.
  20. Does such a thing exist? Do Oregon or Sugi make a bar with a STIHL mount but in .058 gauge? Means i only have to get the one role of chain then. Cheers.
  21. I dread to think. At a guess id say 10mpg, I'll fill the valtra up in the morning and note the mileage i do over the week and work it out.
  22. I thought a few were high but generally i agree they weren't high on the upside. I remember when i started out harvesting i was you had to take the stumps above the root flair but not so high as to waste wood. One instructor would work around and spray your stumps that were too high and then tell you how much timber you wasted.
  23. Depends on the width of the stump. However on a 30cm tree 15cm higher than it should be is 0.01m3. So about 30p a stump.
  24. But if all his cutters are the same length and he understands how this changes the vibration rating of the saw then he would at least get an A for the maintenance section.
  25. Someone hasn't thought about the snedding........
