  1. FC job vacancy are advertised internally and if not filled they go out to the website. As for working for the FC the production chainsaw stuff is very rare. Occasionally machine stuff comes up, you've got real competition for that.
  2. A lot of Mowi cranes are parallel ones. Hence they do what your saying much more suited to harvesting than forwarding is my personal opinion. But in the right place they do save time. As for Mowi they're trailers are very very well built. I don't have any pictures but i've seen a 15 tonne Mowi loaded volvo loading shovel that struggled to lift every log onto it. Trailer didn't flex a bit. Cant speak of a Palms as i've not used or seen one.
  3. My order of 2 13" Sugi bars has just been dispatched from FR Jones. Got 1 solid one for the 346 and a light weight one for the 550. If i like them i can see them going on all on all my saws. Not a lot in it between one of these and a powermatch plus.
  4. Got a pair 5 years ago now. Had 2 zips other than that they're ace. Wasn't until i ripped the outer material badly that they got retired. Got some Gladiator 2 vents class 2. Had them about 6 months now and they're in good shape. Worth the money. Even better if you get the 2011 trousers in 2012 - discounts:thumbup1:
  5. I had issues once. Think it was a Winsor tape it was rubbish. On the plus side I'll get a pin hook rather than one of stupid Oregon claws.
  6. Sill question maybe..... Will a Spencer tape refill fit inside an Oregon forestry tape and work as it should? cheers
  7. Nice skidded stacks. Don't see those often.
  8. I have 576xpg auto tune. Fantastic saw with an 18" bar on. Would balance better with a 20". Handles like a much smaller saw. I originally had a 576xpg non auto tune but something went bang and came out under the exhaust through the oil tank. It was 1 year and a month old, Husky took it back as they were interested in what went wrong. Later a brand new 576xpg auto tune showed up as a replacement.
  9. Stroke do work better on bendy hardwoods. Birch is good as you normally get a good few lengths out before any branching. If the branching is too bad just let the hand cutter deal with it.
  10. Never driven one but their just a upspeced 390 are they not?
  11. MF 390 4wd. One without a loader will be about that Valmet 6400. Might take a bit of looking but they are out there in that price bracket. If your very lucky you could get a 8000 series.
  12. The budget STIHL helmets are utter rubbish. The ear defenders don't fit properly and the shells bend and the vision from the visor is horrid. I use one of the new Husky ones with Sordin 31dba ear defenders. Top stuff. 33 quid for the hat 15 for the ear defenders.
  13. I think it will be expensive. You'll need the heated handle which is probally about 40 quid. You'll need a new rear handle so fuel tank and all, unless you can get the element separately. Then the wiring and i think the blue thing next to the fly wheel. Got to make up that 200g of extra weight somehow. Personally i'd by a new 550 from F R Jones for 520 ish and sell your 550 on ebay for 400.
  14. I've had a 24" on the 576xp bit tip heavy. but it pulls well in hardwood its as big as you'd want to go though.
  15. 560 or 576. I have a 550 and its fantastic almost as good as a 357 but sometimes you need a bit of extra power. But not a 576 worth of power. Really you want 550,560,576 then you'll have every base covered. Look at the 560.
  16. If you want a days training i could do something for you? If not i can pass you on Fozzy or Chris Huges number.
  17. If you can afford a tirfor get one as the quality is top notch and they last forever and hold their value too. I use to have a jet hoist winch until some relived me of it. Couldn't fault it did what it needed to do and ment i spent a lot less. 90% of the time have a 3pl winch around so haven't bothered to replace it.
  18. If your just wearing the tip have you tried STIHL ES bars the ones with the changeable noses? Or the Oregon Powermatch Plus. Or the Sugihara bars from RobD are the bees knees.
  19. Horse logging is expensive. Skylining is expensive. Alstor is expensive. Alpine tractor with a 3pl winch with a very long cable would be your best bet. Although again expensive. Sounds like a pig of a site and if its small stuff going a long way i doubt you'll make much if any money. Also it may be best to cut some racks/skid tracks in.
  20. If you paid via credit card you might be able to through the CC company. I did my L2 years ago with them. Was hard work.
  21. I may try the one that came with the 550 then. My metal one is having a tantrum at the moment despite being full of grease it wont come out.
  22. I use to have 265/70/R17 General Grabber AT2 on the Navara but they don't make them anymore. I now have Cooper AT3 tyres on all the corners. They're OK on the road. If you hit that high grip tarmac on the M25 past Heathrow then the noise is deafening although it was bad with the GG. Other than that than their OK work best on gritty stuff rather than boggy mud though. As for MPG i think there has been a slight improvement over the AT2s.
  23. I have one. the HH make a big difference. keep turning them on and off but great in the cold and the wet. I only have 2 saw without heated handles. Wish they had them. Personally i won't buy a saw without them.
  24. Stephen Gibson & Middy They're both top blokes, did a bit of hedge laying with the pair of them in St. Albans many moons ago.
