  1. Not so much slow in the cut just in the way it delivers the power. More torque than speed. I prefered the to the 620. Its a great saw don't get me wrong but i prefer the power delivery of the 576.
  2. The Echo CS620Sx is the only one of the list i've tried. Its a great saw on a 20" bar. I did think the vibes were a high. Its a bit like a husky 365 slow and steady wins the race.
  3. 550xpg relegated my 346xpg to the back of the shed in one day. Wouldn't be without the little thing now. I have mine on a 13" bar and its flys.
  4. Not the little screw under the valve that set it to single double acting to blame is it. Could you not run the crane free flow return although i think on the 390 you have to put a free flow return in. Don't cost much but dumps the oil back into the tank rather than going back through the spool.
  5. I'd like to see a picture of the repair. I know how i'd go about it but i'd like to see how other would do it. As for steering drawbars they are the greatest addition to a forwarding trailer ever. Once you have one you don't really need legs either. I thought most 390s had two pairs of valves so you should have enough for the crane feed and return and the drawbar. From the look of it although it might just be the photo the spine of the trailer is a little bend where the brake is. Also judging by the shape of the brake the sides have been cracking for a while that caused the bottom to go.
  6. I've not done much in the way of coppice cutting. Messing around with tiny stems cutting about 7 product types down to about 2" then stacking the brash neatly for burning by hand is not my idea of fun. I'm not sure how many stools are in chain and how that relates to tonnage. Are you tied down to where you are? A month or two cutting on conifer will speed you up and the best place to do this is in the North. As for getting into arb dont see lack of CS38/39 as a barrier. What else can you bring to the party? For example if you have C1 or C on your driving license you already valuable to lot of companies. Even B+E is a big advantage nower days. 1st Aid again something that you can offer.
  7. £70 cutting doesn't with little experience doesn't seem bad. Forestry sector doesn't pay well but i'd expect fuel to be covered at the lower end of the pay scale. You say your fairly new how much are you cutting a day? You could always ask for payment by the tonne or m3. That way you know how much you have to cut.

  9. Is that just in front of behind the headboard? That triangular bit of metal the support for the stearing drawbar. Either way its a lot of grinding, cutting, welding and plating there.

  11. The 550 is almost as good as a 254 which is a bold claim i know. If the reliability could be sorted it would be better than 254 and it pains me to say it but its true. As for the 560 kill off 70cc saws i guy i use to work with only used 70cc saw till he tried the 570. I know a few other people who have put the 70cc STIHL and Husky to the back of the shed for the 560 too. I very interested in getting myself a 550 size Dolmar and then do a review of the three.
  12. My BSc not in Arb admittedly had word limits of between 1500-2500 words excluding references. My dissertation was around 10,000. MSc dissertations are around 12-15k words. Part of the art of academic writing is being as concise as possible while still giving all the information. A big part of HND BSc is how you present the information you have researched. I wasn't very good at it i knew the subjects very well but wrote it down poorly.

  15. 8" on a 30hp engine seems a little short on power. I think the discharge can only rotate 270 (i think) to meet our hse guidelines which would make me question its CE mark. I'd also wonder how many ponies are left of the PTO of a Ford 3600 i'd expect closer to 30 than 40. From my experience of running a 12" chipper on a 100hp tractor is that it was a big to start the thing. Would stall the tractor trying to spin the flywheel first time. Always second attempt it would start it but it was close.

  18. I love my 550 its a jem to use. I've had a new carb in mine and its been fine since then. One thing i will say about the new 550 and 560 is they do like to be an individual operator saw. Many people playing with them seems to upset the auto tune and you don't get the best out of them I've never been a fan of the midsize STIHL but i've always had a go with them. The 261 has had a few problems along the way too mainly with the sprocket not being the right size causing crank wear. If you don't catch it in time you need a big expensive rebuild. Last ones i played with were 2014 models and they needed their cranks doing which was under warranty.
  19. I'd go with a 1000 hours for a hydraulic change. Maybe 800 if it leaks a lot.
  20. Know anybody with a big chipper say 12" plus on a tractor with a roof mount crane. Would make the job very quick if you could get it there. Fell/cut in largest chunks possible and crane into chipper.

  22. Right move has a few small paddocks for that sort of money. I doubt you would get planning though. If you could they'd have an extra 0.
  23. Bent grapple. Both fingers out of line and twisted. Heated it up with the gas and AHT50 nozzle. Using the leavers the twist came out. More heat to get both fingers back it line. AHT50 to get it hot and keeping it warm with the cutting head, yep needed two gas sets to do it. 3 tonne bottle jack to bend the fingers so they clear each other bit of sledge hammering to try and take the outer bend out. Then a quick test on the hydraulics to see if it works properly and of course they still catch. So more jacking bending hammering and it works at last.
  24. Nothing a bit of grinding welding and plating wont sort out.
