  1. Timberjack 810 1210 1410 JD 810 1270 1070 Valmet 901 820 Ponnse Beaver, Carribu Wisnet and S10 Ponsse was my favorite.
  2. In 2011 i worked around the Tampere/Kuru/Matamaki and Atala areas. I infact have a Finnish Forest machine operators certificate.
  3. One thing i won't miss about working in Finland is chains. I hated snow chains with a passion. I remember having to put a chains on a TJ1410 in the dark in the snow on my own as it had slipped around on the wheel.
  4. If you cant get a tracked chipper to it i would fancy dragging a gravity fed one to it. I think a CS100 is around 100kg or 150kg. Not used one but with any small chipper cutting the material in such a way to make it go through well. Personally a TW125 on towed by a quad would be my choice.
  5. As far as i'm aware. Your also not suppose to use the crane past the head board of the trailer as well. I'd imagine that is to do with the fact that is to do with that its lifting things other than timber.
  6. I've always found Husky to be cheaper than STIHL at least around here. Not used a 545 for many years but in 3 years of owning it, it was broken more than it worked. Nothing on the 345 it replaced. To be fair it was a very early production run 545 and a lot of the issues were sorted down the line. The STIHL 460 always feels clunky and cumbersome to the 545. Personally i'd have a look at the Echo ones. They have fancy gear boxes so you can do the work of a 60cc strimmer with a 35cc one. It does work had some out on demo and i was very very impressed.
  7. If your rear and side windows on your tractor are guarded like a Wilsons roof mount conversion then your OK. If its open cab like on an Alpine or a tractor without the rear window guarded then you need LOLER.
  8. If you can get a decent top diameter out of those bigger Larches then ie 30+ you should be able to get some longer length logs out that are more in demand. Can you not sell on top diameter volume for sawlogs? That is a monster tree in your picture!!!
  9. I've herd due to its very poor burning characteristics its used for making fire doors and other things in Oak that need to have a good fire rating. Other than that it stinks when you cut it. Its heavier than you think it otherwise would be. It has a lot of sap wood, it doesn't burn very well. It always seems to cut on the wonk. Oh and did i mention that it really smells when you cut it?
  10. Forest Mensuration: A handbook for practitioners £23.95 - Forestry & Silviculture Treesource Thats the thing. Sorry forgot to paste it in.
  11. Whats a paddle hammer? Is that like a boot flail? I wonder if you will struggle to find anything substantial because of the power requirement. Have you tried the Spaldings catalog see if there are any in there.
  12. This is what you want all you ever wanted to know are more. And enough maths do get you a GCSE if you like that sort of thing. TCD has sold a lot of Larch so i'd guess his figures are spot on but I've just checked the book and it says mine are right.
  13. I thought Larch was higher than that 1.11 for EL and 1.2 for HL/JL.
  14. Is that a world wide thing or just here in the UK. I only ask as what we put through the head is a lot bigger and and bushier than it is ever going to get in Scandinavia.
  15. Ah a few more. The nice Sampo and Pro Silva for smaller thinnings. Another Pro Silva 910 but this time with a multi stemming bio energy head, parked next to the JD 1070.
  16. At least nobody is ever going to steal it.
  17. Quite a few 390s had aftermarket turbos put on to give them a bit more poke.
  18. What a fantastic attitude!! That's a lovely photo as well. Wishing you all the best.
  19. I'm not sure if Fox is bigger than Beaver or not i think its just newer and different. Both can take the C5 and C6 heads and have the same crane on so the business end is the same. I think Mike Gillette got one. I think the the 1070 cab is a little cosy, mostly filled up with the chair. At least the Ponsse chair goes all the way around and has a huge cab that you can fit at least 3 people in 4 at a squeeze.
  20. I didn't spend too much time in the 901. I like the visibility of the side mounted crane. The cab is a little cramped and the button layout is unusual. It Was nice i was so use to JD and Ponnse that it was all a little new. I did so much in the 1270 that it was easier for me to jump into 1070. If i had a choice of what thinnings harvester i had i would choose Ponnse Beaver. Or Ergo if we're you want a bigger machine, but not with the silly telescopic/parallel crane thing with the wheel of hoses on. Give me a proper parallel crane.
  21. Long shavings like those that come from a plane are wanted for horse/small animal bedding. Dust is only good for chickens maybe pigs. I always just use to give it away. It was always going that way. I know a guy who sells the saw dust from his processor for 50p a bag and that sells.
  22. It's fly tipping. Obviously you have to prove it. If it was me I'd go and have a word and remind them that they're responsible for the way the gardener disposes of their rubbish. If he comes on a Tuesday sit in your woodland then and see if he does it. Then confront him if he is get a photo and say if its not gone by tomorrow you'll contact the EA, Police and local council.
  23. A Few more. I seem to of misplaced my folder with the 901 and the 1070 in.
  24. Pro Silva I've been to their factory over in Finland. Are HSM not a German company that makes steep decent harvesters with the extra oil pumps and sumps with a big winch on the back?
  25. A tracked Pro silva i think they have a UK agent now. It was a very good machine in the wet. Those pics were in a unfreezing swamp in March. Very nice machine basically a Timberjack 1270 with a few extra bits. The second is their 4 wheel harvester. Something that has never really taken off here. I know their about mainly the Timberjack 870(?) but i'd of thought they would be great for all the smaller wood around the UK and the hardwood too. Guess a 1070 size machine can do more. I have seen the walking JD machine too it lives out the back of a JD dealership in Tampere.
