  1. I like felling high value timber where there is more time in planning everything than actually doing it.
  2. What is it called and where can I get one?
  3. We got there in the end...... We got stuck behind a tractor for a while and we saw a lot nice little villages. At the time it was annoying but it was a good day out. Thanks for driving Tom and to Industry Professional Ewan for operating the Sat Nav properly.
  4. Clever idea with the air jack. How many of those bolts holding the chain in place in the flail pocket did you bend?
  5. I'm watching that. There was a guy near me who had one on his digger, he had no complaints with it. It did an fairly good job on the hardwoods too.
  6. Spent over at IWM Duxford at their VE Air day. Was the first display of their Bristol Blenheim, which they paired up with two Spitfire Mk 1a. Great day with the WW2 livery Euro Fighter doing a display too.
  7. Have you seen these? Mobile Tower Yarder MOZ-Tajfun
  8. Have a look at the krpan 9.5t it has 100m of 13mm cable in it. That uniforest cable system looks really good. You will need to get all the blocks lift tree crossings and I'd expect a turfor or two to tension the line. Also you'll need a carage for it too. I guess the main winch line is haul back so you need to be steep enough gravity feed the carnage.
  9. Aww i thought i was going to see some real Ponsse buffalo action. Look really cool though. I'd imagine that the controls wouldn't be far off the real thing.
  10. know anybody with one? If so borrow it and take it to a fabricator. They'll cut you one out of a bit of sheet very quickly. Or buy yourself a plasma cutter and a sheet of steel and make dogs to your hearts content.
  11. That is a very nice looking MB trac. I was admiring a sprayer MB1000 yesterday. It wasn't black though i think that's what makes yours so good.
  12. To be honest what ever comes on the tractor will do. I've used Michelin Agribib in the woods and only ever punctured one 3 times. Downside is that they're nearly 2000 a tyre. Too wide does limit your turning circle but it also improves your floating effecting reducing the mess you make working. Also makes it more comfortable driving on the road.
  13. Nice set up. Do you miss the tractors and cranes or are the digger/mog combo much better set up.
  14. If your looking new i was happy dealing with Marshalls engineering for a Krpan winch. Krpan do make a great quality 3pl winch with some of the nicest to work with winch cable going.
  15. Forestry winch | eBay Any good to you? Not a bad saving on a new one either. If your going to use it a lot bite the bullet now and go electro hydraulic and power out feed.
  16. My Gladiators 2s have been very good. Only downside is the zips.
  17. It does make it a fantastic chair:thumbup1: Also great for carrying kit on. I tended to winch with it folded up so it didn't dig in. Quite a few shallow services around here. I think i only ever used it to skid on once.
  18. There was loads planted around here in the 20s for the furniture industry because as you say its excellent joinery timber. Now the furniture industry is all but gone so there is no market for the wood. Those who do want it don't use the volumes coming out. On a slightly different perspective its easier to cut firewood than saw logs for a cutting perspective. The reality of firewood haulage is that its probally going 80 miles tops where as saw logs could be going much further than that. This is all reflected in the price so you're making more money sending it for firewood. I did some work near Wycombe where they chair making industry use to be and there is a still bit of joinery there. A few 100m3 of saw logs went to firewood because nobody wanted it even that close to the industry.
  19. Look forward to it. Got to love the folding butt plate, i must admit to rarely using it for its indented purpose. Uniforest are actually Solvinian a lot of the winches on the market are from that part of the world.
  20. Cut 4.8 someone might want it. Maybe post something in the milling forum. I've done Beech in the past and again it all went for firewood. Sometimes if you have a spalted stick someone might want that one.
  21. Must be at least 150' that Redwood. I think it was 40' to the first branch i got too:lol:
  22. Nice low stumps i like this. That a folding butt plate on the uniforest winch. Nice tidy looking Valmet too.
  23. Does it not just have a trailer light connector on the end of it? If it is only taking positive and negative you can change the end and plug it into one of the electrical sockets in the cab. Although I'm still not totally sure what this lead does. I almost want to find out as much as you.
  24. Is it PTO powered or off a spools?
  25. Apparently its electrical on/off switch. I'm guessing plugged in and turned on you can disable the crane.
