  1. Have a look at R Tech welders. To get the 200amps on MIG and more on ARC you will be looking at a 32 amp supply.
  2. The skid steer could go through the bandit and it would still chip.
  3. Have you tried Rod Wilson?
  4. what does the new one do MPG wise?
  5. How do you rate the kellfri stuff?
  6. Portek Maxi ChainMaster Mk2 electric chain sharpener This. Copy and paste is hard.
  7. Not used one but maybe this? I keep meaning to get one. Go with 10 chains or so for a day blunt them and then grind them back in the evenings ready for the next day.
  8. I always used the Oregon bench grinder. Still a chore but will set you back around £500 quid rather than the thousands for the Clarke auto grinder.
  9. Buy them each a saw. If they stay with you for 3 years the saw is theirs to do as they wish. Saws get replaced every 3 years that way and you would be surprised how well they will get looked after that way as well. Lads have an extra incentive to look after them that way.
  10. You will need a electric valve chest on your forwarding trailer compatible with the other cranes mini levers. You will constantly be pluging in and out electrical connections each time you change. I'm not saying it will be impossible to do, but i think the pain factor will rule it out. Buy a roof mount frame or a Jake frame dependant on the type of crane you have on your forwarding trailer. Mount that on the tractor put a valve chest on the roof and have one crane that does it all.
  11. Mf 390 Valmet 6000 series Just make sure you pay a lot of attention to the loader frame and front axle when buying a loader tractor. 6000 hours of loader abuse wrecks front ends.
  12. Can't even take a commercial vehicle into our tip. You have to get a special permit from the council if you have a "commercial" vehicle such as a pickup. I think you can only go 4 times a year.
  13. That is very poor. It's not place together and those rivets have not been spun up enough. Contact them with the pictures showing them what you've got and why its not right. I'd be on to trading standards too.

A place to start. http://www.naac.co.uk/userfiles/files/NAAC%20Contracting%20Charges%20Guide%202015-16.pdf Your price sounds reasonable if a little on the cheap side.
  15. 550 is lovely. Mine in 3 years old now and needed a new carb under warranty at about 8 months. Other than a few brake bands (broken by other users rather than me) its been flawless. I've had and still got 346 and 357 but the 550 is better than both of those. In fact i also have a 560 and you know what i go for the 550 every time as its more usable than the 560.
  16. This I think hits the nail on the head.
  17. Still if anything happens you have to go back to the truck to summon help. Phone in an Otter Box is not easy to break. Having been in a situation where someone has been injured and help needed to be summoned i would never be without a phone in my pocket.
  18. I've asked about getting a loader on a pivot steer. They're not too keen due to the reduced stability of the two halves of the machine can move independently. Lots of alpines out there with loaders on.
  19. How do you get help if you need it if your phone is in the truck? To answer the original question hand cutters are hard to find. Good ones at least, it's a skill that isn't really taught anymore. Young people don't tend to choose forestry as a career anymore.
  20. You could, not sure why you would. Harwarding has it's place but it's better to cut it all then forward it all. Means production is constantly going also limits ground compaction.
  21. Amazing collection of Valmets. 6400 is a stunning tractor although if your going for roof or roadwork i'd always go 8050 8100 or 8150.
  22. If you have the kit the contacts and the reputation work is out there but it's more competitive than ever before . You just have to look on Ebay to see the state of the industry more harvesters forwarders and woodland kit up for sale than ever before.
  23. Timberjack 810. Great little thinnings machine, only downside is that's what its good at not so good on the bigger stuff unlike the 1070.
  24. I've seen the set up done many ways. That one was with a baby tractor 100hp 3 cylinder job! I've seen whole Valtras converted to forest machines. They have rocking harvester cranes on and bigger heads. Most tractor harvesters i saw back in Finland were sporting Keto 51 family heads. So they would do about 15".
  25. [ame] [/ame] I bet this wouldn't be too far off the cost of one of those little alstor harvesters. Except it's quicker can do its own forwarding and can also then mulch its brashmat if required and do ride maintenance as well.
