  1. I've never had a problem with the turning circle of the Valmets. I know what you mean about the light front end as i found out when i picked up a big side arm flail once. 40kph is pritty bumpy in the Valtra and god help you if you hit a bump and your not wearing a hard hat. Wouldn't want to be at 50kph. The Botex 560TL is a fantastic crane. Got a 10 tonne Botex which is a little old now and will be replaced with another 10 tonne botex with a 560 or 570TL. I would seriously suggest getting it forest guarded its an extra couple of grand but it worth it. I've come very close to putting a log through the side window and its good to know the guard it there just in case. Especially when stacking close to the tractor. The belly plate saves a lot of damage too and the brush bars save many wing mirrors. Never played with a Fast track but i can see the appeal especially with the new 4 wheel steer one.
  2. Is a pritty big tractor but it will be a rock solid platform. What will be you using it for? I've not driven the 8450 but i have driven the 8050 and the 8400 which are both fantastic. Loads of room in the cab which is a godsend for forwarding (unlike my A92). There nice and big so you can roofmount a crane. Its not got a lot of hours on it in the grand scheme of things and Wilsons are a good dealer.
  3. When i started driving at 22 i couldn't get insurance to drive the work Hilux! Paid 1100 quid to insure my D22 Navara at 23. At 26 its still nearly 900 quid with NFU! In short young people cost a fortune to insure.
  4. £4-5 per hoppus foot sound about right.
  5. Hi all found somewhere to do CS34/35 but need a few more people looks to be 2 spaces on each. Any takers.
  6. Sharp teeth are a must. Can't stress that enough as i once had the misfortune of grinding cypress stumps with a blunt grinder.
  7. Amazing truely amazing. Wish i had the skills to do that.
  8. Hi I'm looking do winblown/multipul windblow course but i can't find anywhere to do it. Anybody running a course soon or know of one going on. Wanted to do it for ages Thanks Andy
  9. I've found steel bar about half inch round is better than wire mesh. Our Massy 4345 has a mesh guard about an inch square on it and its useless. If you get near it with the crane you know the log is comming through the window. As for supplyers i think the tractor shop sold the stuff. Good luck i'd love to know how to weald.
  10. Some nice coppice cutting there. I like the tractor frame for carrying the poles.
  11. I've always used the Husky ones. The 325HD60x is good i like the balance on it, bit on the heavy side. The rear rotating handle is nice helps with doing long runs of hedge. Vibes aren't bad, cuts quite well too.
  12. I went to Flying Legends at Duxford in July. You have never seen so many Cannon cameras and lenses in one place. The guy next to me had a pair of Eos 1s with some very long fast lenses.
  13. I have the Nikon D90. Fantastic camera take it everywhere i go. Also has a HD movie mode which can be quite cool. I use the 18-105vr lense on it which gives really nice photos. I want a 10-20mm Sigma wide angle lense next. I've had a play with some Cannon cameras but always go back to Nikon. Cropped and scaled down from the D90.
  14. I learnt to use both ends of the climbing line with either a blakes or prussic. I also had a 3 strand side strop 2 meters long with a prussic on it. I now climb on a 37m of Yale XTC fire with either a blakes or VT depending on the tree. I have a yale XTC side strop which is 5 meters and always has a VT on it. I've treied a few other ropes but like the yale ones. I loved my Samson Velocity till someone decided they needed it more than i did and took it. Could only use a prussic on that the VT always jammed up.
  15. Well thats ruined my navara for me.
  16. Was at the local chainsaw shop getting some bits and he said he had some in. They look like they will be very sung, very snug indeed. I think i'll be sticking with Strech Airs.
  17. Sound like a Hilux was it one of the new ones? The one we had a work was rubbish. Spent a lot of time at Toyota whos customer service was shockingly poor. Needed a new bumper for it and i think it was nearly 500 quid. Also the paint came off when we pressure washed it. I have a Navara and i'd get another. I've always wanted my own Landy so i can put silly accessories on it that i'll never use. Fortunatly we have many landys on the estate for playing with. Which means i can have the comfort and economy of the navara for the trip home.
  18. I quite like the Ranger i know some real die hard fans of the japanese pickups have gone over to them. I still think i'd have another navara though.
  19. Here are a few of the pictures from our trip out in the woods.
  20. I have to drive up saturday look around then back down saturday night to go to work on sunday
  21. Husky 339xp Its the 338xpt in rear handle form. Fast nimble and rather well blanaced. I tend to use my 13" 346xpg in the tree since the 200t broke. The 346 is a bit big for smaller stuff but thats what handsaws are for its also the best groundsaw for limbing up and reasonable size felling.
  22. I've done the 4 day first aid at work one with St. Johns. Always worth having one person with that. The one day emergency first aid is good to have if you can't afford/dont want to do the 4 day one.
  23. This any good to you? Forestry equipment - Harvesters - Timberjack 1070 C - Mascus UK Lot of gear going cheap in Ireland at the moment. A contract who does work for us just got a few diggers and dumper from over there.
  24. Yea Pitstone Windmill would be closer i can meet you there 5.30ish. I'll be in the blue Nissan pickup.
  25. Friday would be best for me. If we meet up the top at the tea hut we can drive over to the beacon and take a look at the fungi.
