  1. I have to drive up saturday look around then back down saturday night to go to work on sunday
  2. Husky 339xp Its the 338xpt in rear handle form. Fast nimble and rather well blanaced. I tend to use my 13" 346xpg in the tree since the 200t broke. The 346 is a bit big for smaller stuff but thats what handsaws are for its also the best groundsaw for limbing up and reasonable size felling.
  3. I've done the 4 day first aid at work one with St. Johns. Always worth having one person with that. The one day emergency first aid is good to have if you can't afford/dont want to do the 4 day one.
  4. This any good to you? Forestry equipment - Harvesters - Timberjack 1070 C - Mascus UK Lot of gear going cheap in Ireland at the moment. A contract who does work for us just got a few diggers and dumper from over there.
  5. Yea Pitstone Windmill would be closer i can meet you there 5.30ish. I'll be in the blue Nissan pickup.
  6. Friday would be best for me. If we meet up the top at the tea hut we can drive over to the beacon and take a look at the fungi.
  7. I do mean beacon rather than becon silly spelling mistake. It's just by the car park. I could meet you there one day after work and show you?
  8. Its it beds but near as damn to herts. Its on the Becon Road in the block of Beeches just below the Becon Car park.
  9. Hi I've looked on the fungi directory and i can't find this. I have no idea what it is. It's slightly slimy to the touch and its living in the butress of a largish beech tree. Thanks for any help Andy
  10. Nice felling. As said about the PPE also a good pair of gloves would be good kill a few vibes of the old saw. Weld or bolt a bit of guard around that drive belt if possable, might save a figer or too. Nice stuff otherwise i'll have to dig out some of my pictures of our mill. Got a Stenner 41 bandsaw Robinsons Resaw a Maggi radial arm saw a Wadkin thicknesser and a robinsons morticer. Why choker the log so high so the butt doesn't lift up?
  11. NPTC tractor with hitching an implment/trailer and loader use is useful but i've used my forest (FMO 1.3) much more.
  12. Ok fantastic thats about an hour from me so its doable. I'll give you a ring tomorrow.
  13. I love my 357xpg and its taken a lot and i do mean a lot of abuse. Its been dropped several times. Its had trees land on it several time most of which have only dented the plastic case. Its been hit by some big timber rolling on which left it un harmed. Some more big timber rolled on it which broke part of the case but that stuck together with liquid stel. It got hit by something heavy more than likely a top of some sort which broke the top two cooling fins on the cylinder and bent the spark plug. After all of that and 5 years of forestry its still going strong. Fantastic little saw tough to choose between it and the 346. The only thing is that it does like to break needle bearings a lot.
  14. Hi I can drive a forwarder. Have FMO 1.3 3.4 3.5 3.6 and NPTC tractor. Where abouts in Essex? Would weekends possible? How long for? Regards Andy
  15. AT Osbornes would be closest i think. As for price depends on how many bells and whisles you get on it. If you can get upto the APF in September you'll be able to see many winches. I wouldn't get a Fransguard would be only only bit of advice as our one has been nothing but problems as of late. Chews up cables like they are free. If you want it for forestry work seriously think about getting a double drum one.
  16. Do you have a good camera on your phone? If it ain't broke don't fix it. I have a 3.1mega pixel camera on my phone not great by any means but does the job. I take my Nikon D90 to work everyday its a little extream but takes fantastic photos. If you take a TV you'll need to buy a licence if its the same as uni. Take a lap top you get iplayer and the like and you can watch dvds and stuff too.
  17. Hi Does anybody have a link to a copy of this? Or could send me the section on the carb and ignition. Our one has been taken apart but now it won't start at all. Not getting a spark at all. Thanks Andy
  18. Checked this with our insurance company a little while ago. CS 30 - Cross cutting and chainsaw lets you do this no size limit on the chainsaw or bar length. CS31 - coveres felling upto 15" using upto a 15" bar. A longer bar can't be used. Thats what our insurance bods told me. If anything happened while you were felling an 18" tree with 15" or 18" bar you'd get your self into insurance problems. Do CS32 teaches you about winches and how to deal with big stuff.
  19. I have a 9" PTO quick chip. Bloody good bit of kit only downside is that Fletchers have stoped doing parts not sure who does now. Its a pain when it cloggs up and you have to unjam it. Its broken at the moment though feed roller bearing when sheared the housing right off and snapped a spring. All in all its fantastic works and doesn't need to much HP through it.
  20. Same here. The Husky XP stuff was just as good though.
  21. Totally agree.
  22. Most of the Horse Chestnut trees on the estate are looking rough. Seems this year we've been hit very hard with it. You can pick them out on the wood edges from the roads as they're so brown. Also most of the Oaks are looking quite ropey.
  23. Never had one snap but thrown a few off the bar. Worse one was on the 660 that took the chain catcher nearly all the way off. Hit my foot even through the boots my foot still hurt and swelled up. no blood though.
  24. I want one! i looked at getting one at the beginning of the summer but they were a lot of money. I might get a DD camping hammock though are they good for putting up high in trees or are they a low thing only.
  25. I cut a whole load of super strength graded larch last year i'll see if i still have the grading sheet it covered quite a few softwoods.
