  1. That was my first thought.
  2. NFU don't normally insure under 25s. Try Adrian Flux they're good for young people. Its just the way insurance works under 25 and male then the insurance company wants all your money. Out of interest what you picking up on your roof mount to make your tractor do that?
  3. Seems a lot of money to spend on 200 acres of woodland. Will the kit go out to other woodlands? 50k isn't a lot of money to spend on toys in the grand scheme of forestry toys. If you want to get 30" Beech of a slope you need at least 8 tonne of winch. Thats about 10k gone already. A tractor for the winch would be another 20-30k depending on wether you want new or not. Say another 20k for a Botex forwarding trailer. Thats the 50k budget gone before you've got to splitters saw benches and processers. Stephen raises a good point about experence. If you have to train operatives to use the kit then you'll burn through even more money. Forwarder training is about 2k per person! Being able to fell a small tree is very different to a large tree on a slope set up for extraction.
  4. I love Mythbusters! Is Kari back? last time i saw it they had a replacement.
  5. I always thought that play bark was from sawmill log peeling that were then chipped.
  6. There is a lot of it going around at the moment. A guy near us nearly had his tractor nicked. They got small stuff like saws but didn't get away with the tractor.
  7. I found that quite funny. Its the sub titled lyrics that made it funny.
  8. That is a quality reduction. Nice job!
  9. That will be a fantastic little tractor. Put a winch on that and you'll have a fantatsic winch tractor. I expect that will go for at least 7k
  10. When using the chainsaw mill i wear a dust mask. As for chipping i tend not to but i have started crane feeding the chipper more to avoid dust, lifting and whippy branches. I use to get a bit of a tight chest around fresh woodchips but this has gone now.
  11. finally done:biggrin:
  12. The exact same thing just happened to me. Yes its a week and a bit later and i still wont be beaten. Stupid game.
  13. I've burnt Euc for the last few winters. It gets very hot but it does take an age to dry. I have a feeling that Euc has a massive calorific value as well which is why it has been planted as energy crops.
  14. It has a redish colour to it where as European is quite white/yellow. Hybrid too has the redish tinge. I've always found the Jap/Hybrid have a lot more tension in the wood when milling. Feels like it weighs more too. All three Larchs burn very well, nice and hot. I burn a lot.
  15. The 576xp is a fantastic saw. A 30" bar would be pushing the capability of the saw. A 24" is great. I use a 365/372 for edging with my mini mill and it does swimmingly well with a 20" bar.
  16. I have a pair. Lasted quite well managed to burn a hole in the material with the saw exhaust. Iron on patch sorted that out. The vents in the back of the leg are great in the summer.
  17. Are you pushing the down button twice on the way down? It takes for ever to come down on the first press of the button. If you do two it comes down much much quicker.
  18. Awsome. Best ever episode of Dr Who as well.
  19. Nice. Lights are always good. Too many time i have worked under the lights of the tractor as their better than the truck. Just one thing is to check with your insurance company as extra lights normally extra on the policy.
  20. Our Valtra A92 (85-95hp) runs our kwikchip 431 which is about 10" chipper at 540 with out any issues. I have a feeling that the Bandit will work on the Valtra but no stess will kick in a lot.
  21. Nice job.
  22. That 50 quid is closer to 40 after tax and NI. With fuel oil, travel, wear and tear and lunch you seem to be on the short end the stick.
  23. and a seat in the tractor out of the rain.
  24. Is that 50 quid after tax or before?
