  1. Why not?
  2. Royal Agricultural College do CS38. They're in Cirencester in Gloucestershire
  3. Arbwork you have a fantastic collection of kit! Is that a little Alpine Tractor? I think crane feeding a 150/190 TW style machine would be a pain. I crane feed a Kwikchip 431 which is a 10" machine but its not designed to do it so there are safety bar issues so it proved to be a real pain.
  4. You after the one in this months FJ classified then?
  5. I took the plunge a couple of weeks ago. Got a 2007 Navara Outlaw with 53k on the clock on rather large General Grabber AT2s. Getting between 27-37 mpg dpending on what i'm doing. At the end of the working day it's a nicer place to sit than my D22 its quiter too and a lot less vibration.
  6. me too:blushing: I'd be lying if i said i didn't want to give both US logging and the whole canadian heli logging thing a go.
  7. Never mind up it. Try under it. Scared me when a Sweet Chestnut fell over about 15"dbh fell over and lodged it's self between the tractor and the timber trailer. Didn't really see it other than hurd a creek then a bang on the roof. Nasty
  8. That be a good buy for someone. Do a lot of tree pulling with that. Look good on the back of a county:thumbup1:
  9. Not hurd of a case. What crane was it? Has the king post cracked? catastrophic boom failure is listed as a risk on my risk assessment but i hope never to see it. I've cracked a grapple through stress/wear and tear. Also had a few of the ram bearings crack, but my trailer is very old and had a hard life before i got it. Useless to speculate without more info/pictures but have you been excedding the SWL a lot?
  10. Is it a replacement end one like a power match plus? All you need to drill out the rivets and then use a ball pien hammer to knock the new rivets over. Easy peasy done a fair few. The rivets normally come with the nose. If you're trying to change a laminate bar sproket nose it can be done but i've not done it.
  11. That's a nice find. Some good info in there especially about jacking trees.
  12. Valtra A95 -30k Botex 560tl - 20k Or a Farma 5.1 on a 8t trailer 10k Uniforest 8T winch - 10k
  13. A big one blew over in Little Gaddesden it's really beaten up on the deck though. I've driven past it each day for months now. It's not worth milling though big branch arm and splits all over the place where it blew over and broke. At least i think its Lebanon could be Deador never saw it with needles on.
  14. That was my first thought.
  15. NFU don't normally insure under 25s. Try Adrian Flux they're good for young people. Its just the way insurance works under 25 and male then the insurance company wants all your money. Out of interest what you picking up on your roof mount to make your tractor do that?
  16. Seems a lot of money to spend on 200 acres of woodland. Will the kit go out to other woodlands? 50k isn't a lot of money to spend on toys in the grand scheme of forestry toys. If you want to get 30" Beech of a slope you need at least 8 tonne of winch. Thats about 10k gone already. A tractor for the winch would be another 20-30k depending on wether you want new or not. Say another 20k for a Botex forwarding trailer. Thats the 50k budget gone before you've got to splitters saw benches and processers. Stephen raises a good point about experence. If you have to train operatives to use the kit then you'll burn through even more money. Forwarder training is about 2k per person! Being able to fell a small tree is very different to a large tree on a slope set up for extraction.
  17. I love Mythbusters! Is Kari back? last time i saw it they had a replacement.
  18. I always thought that play bark was from sawmill log peeling that were then chipped.
  19. Not that it's any help but i had the same thing with a tree i felled a few weeks ago. 10 came out of the wood. All have various inperfections that you expect with hardwoods bar one that had what you described. Was big too about 25" across and 9' long. Cut it into 8x2 and each board was worthless rotten and shaken.
  20. There is a lot of it going around at the moment. A guy near us nearly had his tractor nicked. They got small stuff like saws but didn't get away with the tractor.
  21. I found that quite funny. Its the sub titled lyrics that made it funny.
  22. That is a quality reduction. Nice job!
  23. That will be a fantastic little tractor. Put a winch on that and you'll have a fantatsic winch tractor. I expect that will go for at least 7k
  24. When using the chainsaw mill i wear a dust mask. As for chipping i tend not to but i have started crane feeding the chipper more to avoid dust, lifting and whippy branches. I use to get a bit of a tight chest around fresh woodchips but this has gone now.
  25. finally done:biggrin:
