  1. i promised rob d to post an honest opinion of the alaskan mill he supplied , fantastic tool just about covers it ,brough a 56 inch mill and originally used it with 048 and 36 inch bar on douglas fir , very pleased with the results . as funds allowed !got a 60 inch bar and fitted it to s/h 084 found it good but a little harder to use on narrower cuts (getting older is main problem )now use 42 inch bar for most work but glad to have several bar options . robs advice was really helpfull and impartial THANK YOU ROB existing users are familiar with all this but hopefully it might help someone considering setting up a mill i wish i had brought one years ago
  2. hi "traditional woodland crafts" by raymond tabor has really good line drawings and descriptions of cleaving ,gate and hurdle making , and a range of brakes tools ect sorry gave wrong title on earlier reply this is definatly the correct book
  3. hi if you can find a copy "greenwoodworking by raymond tabor " it gives really clear drawings and descriptions on hurdle and cleft gate making including various breaks tools ect it is out of print and a bit expensive but well worth finding

  6. hi all , has anyone any experience or comments on growing eucalyptus for firewood coppice ?any outstanding speices ?would spacing be the same as native hardwoods ,is it likly to outgrow ash ? all advice welcome

  10. hello all thanks for explanation i have never come across impulse hose prehaps my kit is to old ? all makes logical sense now thanks again (hate not understanding )

    sorry to ask a dull question but what exactly is meant by impulse hose what does it do or is it just another name for fuel pick up pipe ?

  13. thanks for advice ,40ish to 1 sounds good , thats put my mind over long running time to rest ,why is it when you buy a "new "tool you are frightend of wearing it out ?
  14. used alaskan mill for first time and wonderd ,given the time the engine is on full load if it proves terminal very soon ?? its there any advantage in using a slightly oiler mix
