  1. Why don't people just use the planning portal site? I use it for pretty much all my applications and notifications using a google map with the tree positions overlayed on it as my sketch map. I can do and submit an application in less than 5 minutes if I'm being efficient. You don't need to waste paper printing stuff off and you don't pay for a stamp.
  2. Needs a notification going to the council as with any other trees over a certain dbh in a conservation area.
  3. I'd been watching that just out of intrigue. I believe the new price is about 1300+VAT
  4. If you are buying it like that its not bad really. I can sell a tipper of freshly cut conifer for that and that is sizes I can man handle on the back.
  5. I've a 300tdi disco and its great. Will do what the defender does pretty much but in more comfort. Yes they go wrong but keep on top of servicing at every 6000 miles and the engine will last. Just look out for rot particularly boot floor and inner wings and arches. Disco 2's are known for chassis rot also but welding box section is easy. Just had a second hand transfer box in my defender and it only cost 150 quid fitted. For a recon it would have been 600 to 700 which isn't bad considering servicing on some cars can cost you that.
  6. Pete go up to the canal bridge in Haigh Hall but turn off the main drag and disappear into the woods on the right just before the bridge. There be many Beech with many fungi attached.
  7. If you are on about the HSE type ones then they will be required. Get some made up. I can get small vinyl stickers made for very little money.
  8. We do ours twice a year. rarely goes out in winter burning both coal and wood. After a nights slow burn I put it on for a very hot burn for 20 mins or so partly to get our rads back on and partly to burn off deposits in the flue. You could always do what the farmer where I keep my stuff does and deliberately torch his flue to clean it.
  9. I've been cutting stuff from this summer that is 4" diameter and its pretty much dry. That has been in 2-3 feet lengths. Reduce the length and it will dry much quicker.
  10. The infeed for the rollers is square/in a vertical plane rather than on a greenmech which is letterbox shaped. The letter box means less snedding. I'll stick with my TW though
  11. My TW150 is 2.5 years old with nearly 300 hours on it. The Rotors failed the other week and the bearings were just starting to rumble. I must admit I don't always change the blades when I should and it takes some hammer so to be honest for that kind of usage with "undersized" and ungreasable bearings I don't think its too bad. In 2.5 years its cost me just over 300 quid to repair other than routine oil and filter changes and blade sharpening. I personally think the biggest downside to the machine is the vertical infeed and the poor quality jockey wheel which is now welded on.
  12. I'm in Wigan will keep an eye out.
  13. We've a Stratford Tf50 boiler stove. Decent quality and does the job
  14. My old LDV weighed 2 tonnes before you put your tools and and men in.
  15. £80 a month for a container and space for logs and storage for my tipper and a trigger happy farmer as security
  16. I can run at 250 a day but there is no profit in it when you work out all the costs of wages and fuel. 250 a day will give for me £160 in wages for 2 men me being one of them. £30 worth of fuel the rest is on general running costs. 250 a day is really the bare minimum we could survive at if we were running at that everyday and only for a limited period of time. I've done some quick calculations and reckon on needing to average £215 a day based on 50 weeks work working 5 days a week just to make a wage for myself and break even after insurance, fuel, yard rent, chipper repayments, wages (for 2 men - myself and another). In that there is no room for breakdowns, repairs, general maintenance, replacement equipment etc and certainly no profit. Its quite frightening when you work it out. The problem you have is there are a many number of companies that can and do work for a lot less than the £400+ I aim for on my own work.
  17. I'll sell you them if you like. got to be better than the ones you purchased
  18. I nearly threw my hedge trimmers across the garden yesterday as they wouldn't run anymore than a quick idle. Most frustrating when you are wanting to get off home. I need some new ones really but have nursed them through yet another summer is a shame to get rid
  19. Is no one other than me going to confess to a ryobi as their first saw. What a pile of junk that was.
  20. Appeal then if refused apply for the work and then go to the government inspector at appeal if the application is refused. That is the only way you could do it now.
  21. Our black dog has had the snip. Started to become overly aggressive towards the other dog and wouldn't concentrate so started wandering off whilst on walks. He is great now.
  22. Am I the only person who uses an old fashioned paper diary? Everything gets written in the diary both quotes and jobs. I then transfer what ever is needed ie written quotes and invoices onto the computer into individual folders of quotes and invoices.
  23. burn it. mix it in with the other coal. It is possible to sell slack but you'll get very little return on it.
  24. KH have both 150 TWs tracked and wheeled and 190's tracked and wheeled the 190's are slightly more.
  25. KH Hire at Leyland 01772 452112 you'd be looking at 400 plus VAT a week I think
