  1. i have seen the future, and it has a radio the things those of us that drive ex L/A landrovers can only dream of
  2. what, really, im truely stunned, thrust bearing went in my clutch yesterday, 4hrs in an AA truck
  3. bump starting your landy?
  4. did you find any eaten nut cases around if so have a look and see how they have been opened, i looked at a load yesterday that someone was complaining the squirrels had been eating, turned out it was woodmice! squirrels cut the nuts open very roughly and in no particular shape or form, mice will open them carefully with the bottom of the nut carefully nibbled round if you look you should see teeth marks very finely if its mice, coarsely for squirrels I have three nuts on my contorted hazel in the garden, if the squirrel next door ventures from the spruce plantation its going to need some serious protection
  5. sounds like you were lucky, but well done for standing up for your property that you have worked for, i think most people would have the red mist descend at the sight of that, i know i would have
  6. I have found having driven td5 110's and my 300tdi 130, the 130 far easier to park and drive in tight spots than the 110 was. right best dash as the AA are here to lorry my 130 to the garage as the thrust bearing in the clutch has gone, and they wont tow a 130 on a roadside truck you have to go on the lorry due to the weight, at the end of the day remember its a landrover, it wont be hugely comfortable, in fact my passengers commented how nice the journey back from Herts was in the recovery lorry rather than 2hrs in the landrover it wont be watertight, one thing i will say is check the tow hitch set up as mine is the first thing that bottoms out when going up a slight incline with a trailer on and this stops the rear wells gaining traction and results in being very stuck, with a 110 the hitch is closer to the rear wheels so its not such a problem
  7. i have a 130 twin cab but its an older 300tdi engine, its ok, great for hauling 5 people and lots of kit about, but i wouldnt think it would be worth converting the back to a tipper in my opinion, i have used mine with a tipping trailer for brash etc and it worked well and towed it fine. regarding the tyres i have BFG all terrains on mine, but will be changing them to a mud terrain, as they are fine when the truck is empty but put a trailer on the back and you need as much grip as you can get to move it. I have a truckman top on mine which is ply lined, had it on the weightbridge yesterday empty at 2540kg
  8. but had it done all the paperwork? it looks like your dog runs a tight ship there hardly a paper out of place
  9. dealer if im in a hurry, internet/ebay if i find a good deal or im ordering something else so will be paying the postage anyway
  10. I was thinking of offering a similar service but more offering it with operator per day/half day via local arb/forestry firms round here working for clients who want to keep any sensible straight timber or estates carrying out thinning work, i think there is potential but i dont know about the hireing per week without operator i cant see the insurance companies liking that, also im not sure i would want to buy a nice bit of kit like that and loaning it to the public to many "lets go mental is only a rental" types about for my liking i have seen nearly new kit trashed in days on rental as people have no respect for it
  11. i hate to say it but your office is like a farm yard! your dog is a lot better behaved around chickens than my terrier is, although after being intercepted by a high speed shovel last time she seems to have got the idea
  12. errrr what happened here then?
  13. I want to plant a woodland on 17acres of rubbish grassland the oldman has in cambridgeshire as nice big block of coppice with standards, ideally 70% for firewood and 30% for traditional hazel coppice. i love the whole Ben Law idea, I think the livestyle would be great, in one of his books, i think its the woodland house one there is a series of legal case studies about building woodland dwellings, i think the primary reason is for charcoal burning as you need to be present 24/7 for managing the burns, i know when we looked up here into getting an ag-tied dwelling on in-laws farm the council wanted accounts from the farm for x years to prove it was a viable business and that it required someone else living on site, so its not really straight forward, but with 15acres with some livestock and charcoal you should be ok, but they will want to see a predicted business plan
  14. looks pretty tidy, and a real bargin, are you running a pto splitter on it? only reason i ask is I have a MF2720 (you ones bigger brother 147hp) and i i leave the spools constantly pumping the oil heats up very quickly, also if your not familiar with MF front axles, make sure you keep plenty of grease in the grease nipples on the front axle especially the central one that faces you if you look underneath it, if that gets worn it can be a real problem to deal with how many hours on the clock, or has it the usual trick of disconnecting it from the back of the dash? C
  15. I really wanted to get down to that but other work commitments ended up ruling it out, its a shame we looking forward to all of the talks really did you go to the others?
  16. what a bummer, i will keep an eye on ebay as i have been looking for some MTs for my defender, so I keep searching for defender tyres.
  17. i think i would have been looking at the saw
  18. i think there is an upper limit, but its pretty high i think its something like 25ton total train weight, i know i have exceeded this on several occasions with some big kit eg 300+hp tractors on 40kph gearboxes and big cultivation set ups on the back (not going into the laws relating to road speeds and brake configurations), and this was when i was a student, I have also run rigid six wheel lorries on the road as they were ag registered and therefore not requiring the same licensing as if they were classed as what ever HGV class as, you can tow double trailer set ups but i think its only when they are empty eg two silage or grain trailers although i dare say someone else will confirm this but im not bitter i can tow a 6ftx4ft 750kg trailer behind my defender130, thanks uk license makers,
  19. cheers will give palletways a look as well thanks Charlie
  20. I need a pallet shipping from Dorset to Staffs, palletline have quoted me £65 to collect and deliver at agreed times, has anyone used them before or got a pallet courier that they can recommend to me cheers Charlie
  21. hey guys yes its me, have you seen what the hotspot in uttoxeter charge for the little boxes of half a dozen kiln dired logs? its something daft like about £1.50 per log
  22. just flushed the tank twice and had loads of dirt and fines out, have put it into a bottle to take to the dealers to show them, wonder if they have tested it with crappy fuel, anyway fresh aspen and a spark plug out the trust 346xp and plenty of pulling and primeing seems to have cleared it, runs up first pull now, still not happy that ive had problems with two brand new machines
  23. just got a new stihl bt45 wood auger out for a job in the morning, go to open the fuel tank and its full and just ditched a load of 2stroke mix down me, my bad, anyway pull and pull and pull and nothing, its not fireing, the ht lead has a pulse so i pull the plug and its covered in a reddish discolouration (almost plasticy)? i havent seen anything like it before, it looks like the top of the piston has it on it as well so im going to ring the dealers in the morning and give them such a ear full, i wouldnt be so annoyed but the last one we got out on a job without testing it, guy operating it pulled it a couple of times and nothing so i said pass it here, i pulled it and it sounded and felt odd, flip it over and low and behold, no fricking spark plug, seriously i dont know how they have built up the reputation they have for decent kit if this is how they carry on, rant over, that will be 2hrs work in the morning lost unless i just plod on with the battery drill, even so i will have to drive to the dealers 30mins in the opposite direction at some point
  24. a mate had tried to explain to me about something like this from NZ but i couldnt imagine what he was on about, all i can say is i hope they torqued the nuts correctly
  25. these guys Josh? Shotgun Cabinets, Rifle Cabinet, Gun Boxes, Gun Cabinet, Locking Gun Box, All Made To BS7558:1992: DJS Products if so i have one of their firearms cabinets and its really well made and was comparatively cheap, he will make stuff up to order. Rupe, might be worth looking at something like this, DJS Products | DJS Products VL7/9DLT (5 Point Locking) which will be very secure, but i imagine is close to the dimensions your after
