  1. Cheers Steve and the guys at Timberwolf, I guess i now have to seriously looking at buying a chipper. I will just tell the other half that i really need it for work, although that maybe running a bit thin on the ground given i am currently looking to by a landy 130. At least i will have a vehicle to tow it with then! Cheers again and congrats on a really good useful site Charlie
  2. am i doing something thats a big no no:thumbsdown: in my picture? I am aware that siting on the trunk im milling wasnt a good idea, i wouldnt normally be working like that. I have to agree that I think training is vital when using powerful equipment, the worst thing i have seen was a guy last winter one handing a mid sized husky above his head letting the saw cut through the branch then swinging the saw downwards as it cut through, wearing old school farmer spec ppe, (flat cap and glasses, i couldnt see if they had chainsaw protection)
  3. this is of the ebay.com chainsaw buyers guide "Top handle saws are light and run short bars. They are designed primarily for cutting small limbs and branches, sometimes called limbing saws or arborist saws. They are suitable for cutting limbs, branches and small diameter trees (generally nothing over an 8" diameter)." I think this is the kind of thing that gives people the wrong idea of what to buy, i have to say some of the ways ive seen chainsaws run on farms etc, makes me think there is the potential need to restrict sales to trained individuals, even if it was just a mornings training when you buy the saw, much like now happens with new (reputable) ATV companies.
  4. gives me an excuse to buy a chipper to go with the mug!
  5. "eagles may soar, but weasels never get sucked into jet engines!" "drive it like you stole it" (only in other peoples cars) "face like a bulldog chewing a wasp"
  6. seems odd, that ifs it leaking fuel and still running ok? when its leaking does it lean the saw out at all, seem to rev faster etc? i cant see how if its leaking fuel out its not suck more air in, I wonder if its leaking out the carb gasket, might need new gaskets? its the only thing is can think of that would cause it leak fuel from the handle without causing running problems
  7. Matt do you mean the flap of plastic that actually sits through the fuel tank(see pic)? or some where actually between the carb and the engine
  8. First of all hi, this is a great site (more focused than lots of the others!) I was talking today with a guy who I do some logging work with, discussing what the lantra qualification actually means in the real world, I had looked at this BTCV course and wondered if the qualification at the end actually means anything at all? is it worht spending £55 on? we decided between ourselves that lantra sprayer tickets dont really cut the mustard in the contracting world, neither does the Chainsaw ticket? so it begs the question whats the point. Is it just to make homeowners happy and prove if something goes wrong in a non-work (domestic) situation that you have had training? Charlie
