  1. mine: 192t 020t 070 084avreq stihls, 340 254xp 372xpw huskys farms: 170 180 028 (all cr@p) well will reserve judgement on the 170 as its only 3months old, but 180 is just a pita, and i have the 192 which is the same saw with a top handle and i like that one, i would quite like to get a 046/460 stihl but would proably be to much overlap with the 372 which is a great saw! i want to open the exhaust up a bit on the 372 but its great as is.
  2. sorry to hi jack the thread, does the same apply with saws bought from the states? as i thought you couldnt use non-ce marked saws commertially?
  3. glad to here the system works even if it needs a bit of refining! v funny! you definatly need to film the groundy test!
  4. very nice, like the spiked holder idea, wouldnt have thought of that, guess it helps grip the butt better
  5. thing that puts me off the hydrulic is having to have an extra engine mounted to the atv, and the extra cost! then again i supose thats going to better than getting there and finding that the winch battery is flat
  6. i will wait till you have made them, cant shift them and then buy them in the sale! i cant see that they are that hard to make, the most difficult bit will be the swing boom on the winch surely? i would be more interested if it was set up so i could also be towed on the road, as its not always you want to use the atv, but this might just mean being supplied with two sets of tyres? i will have a think about cost seriously and pm you Cheers
  7. this is a pic of the heavy duty hitch, which i think FC recommend in some of their earlier atv stuff. you can see the standard atv towball mounting hole beneth it
  8. i looked at an ex mod honda on ebay the other day, and i think that had something fitted that i have only ever read about in forestry comm. technical reports, a chassis centrally mounted hitch, where there is bar that travels to the center point on the atv frame so towing load isnt put on the back axle. i will try and find a picture, i guess this would be quite important if your atv was towing a big load regularly
  9. i would be keen to see how much kranman would ship them over for for self assembly on a pallet, i shall drop them an email! where are the chinese trailers? i havent seen any of those, think articulate axels would have to be a must else you could end up putting lots of weight on the atv towball?
  10. i am trying to find a supplier, i would have thought caledonian forestry would have been the importer as they import the other models, maybe if they knew there was some interest they would get some shipped over, they just look a bit more practicle for small stuff, the big hydrulic units would be fine but you would need to be running it everyday to cover the costs. http://www.remorques-jms.qc.ca/en/remorque.html they do a similar thing imported by lakes lumber equipment in cumbria i think! but no prices! would imagine they will all be pricey!
  11. which ones, like the one i posted the link to?

i hope you had the relevent waste excemptions for burning that lot! shocking!
  13. i have a superwinch t2000, that i was going to have to make a kit for my honda as they dont make mounting kits for the 250's if i had the time i think i would make a logging arch or a small forwarding trailer but its having the time to do it, the winch would be quite handy at the moment for pulling lengths of sycamore out of a ditch bank im working on. i think im going to have to go to the next cambridge machiney sales and sort myself a newer atv, its going up in proirity with a few contracts i have on the horizon
  14. DAF made cars? before my time obviously
  15. big A what size is your atv? i went for a test drive on a used kawasaki kvf360 today, variable transmission (ie no gears) done by pullys and belt like the polaris's i have to say i was pretty impressed by the power it seemed to have, selectable front and rear diff lock, push button 4x4, engine braking system! i had aways said i would stay with honda but i think the second hand value is a bit to high, in realation to the difference in build quality. plus i have a winch sitting here that would fit on this kvf360 that doesnt on my 250 honda, how much use do you find your atv winch? and what spec is it? my concearn has always been that the atv will move and whatever your trying winch wont (unless its self recovery)
  16. i would try attaching the fencer mainly to the highlighted points (if you can get at the back of the bolts) as this will be the first thing they will try! i think the whole container may be to large, and may result in the battery running flat if its constantly earthing onto blades of grass touching it etc
  17. Big A, rexons are advertising for new dealers for their atv forwarding trailers maybe you could set yourself up as one? have your watched the video of the additional hydrulic drive system on the trailers, great idea but i bet it shreds the tyres, thats one thing definatly on my wish list, unless i get an alpine tractor, just trying to decide whether to invest in a newer bigger atv and equipment for that or to go for a smaller tractor, both have benefits and drawbacks you dont have to have the full on hydrulic forwarder either: http://www.kranman.com/VK1500.htm
  18. http://www.the-tree.org.uk/EnchantedForest/Bats/bats4.htm this has the basics, i can get the wife to sort some more detailed pdfs if you need them (i think) just an idea and i dont know how copyright would stands but a reference section on the website might be a pretty useful tool, eg links to docs/reports on various aspects of tree work, like H&Saftey, protected species, and other stuff?
  19. its important to remember just because its says exemption for ag doesnt mean that you dont have to do anything, there is no cost for the excepmtions but you still have to fill in the paperwork and send it to the EA!
  20. i have had quotes for ground protection from eve trackway http://www.evetrakway.co.uk/ for getting mini diggers over lawns its pricey (local NT estate have a length about 10m worth and its very good) evetrakway also do all glastonbury site matting! we ended up using ply (due to budget restrictions) renting an access track was about 6x more than the ply for a 30m length for two weeks! the 3/4" ply seemed to handle 6tonne diggers, unimogs and tractors passing over it relatively well we had one sheet that had cracked at the end of 2weeks use!
  21. how come?
  22. mine 372 runs 24" all the time, got a 254 on an 18" and the 340 on 12" all seem to cope just fine and have most things covered, 372 may get a shorted bar to get rid of the 254xp? havent decided yet
  23. i just seem to have to consciously keep the back of the saw slightly up to allow the dust out? is this normal behaviour? i never had a problem on the skip stuff that i got with the saw
  24. seriously, we did our old barns across the paddlock bars, old man forgot oneday to disconect it, i threw him back and blistered his hand! (maybe you dont want to disable your groundy) but this was a mains fencer not battery. Do try and connect it as close as possible to the padlock as they will always check that first. not that i advocate this kind of behaviour
  25. i like the ability to put more oil on when im milling, specifically went for a 084 for that reason, got mine shipped from canada at about half the price of one over here would have cost. Got quiet a few spares shipped with it like oiler, coil and clutch in fact the bits that are likely to get killed by milling (084 parts are really price over here! ) and its great with the 17" oregon bar thats on it so so fast one other question, does anyone run skip chain in the UK? i have just swapped my 36" chain from skip to full compliment and it doesnt seem to allow it clear the kerf quick enough, it keeps packing it with so much sawdust that its slowing the saw. Maybe im just trying to get through the cut to fast?
