  1. used to drink stuff called "rocket fuel" tea, it had added caffine and guarana, makes sleep impossible and gives you a raging headache after about the 3rd cup, but seemed strangely addictive, but if you were feeling a bit low on energy talk about pick you up! other than that its PG all the way!
  2. nice work, whos it for FC? wish id known i would have poped over as its only 20 mins away and my background is in heathland/moorland restoration, were Staffs wildlife trust involved at all? as i know they do quite a bit over there
  3. the wife says that they will emmit noises whilst in the roost but its unlikely that these will be loud enough to be picked up on most bat detectors, she says a emergance survey would be best at either dawn or dusk if you suspect bats are present
  4. hmmm dont know will ask the other half when she gets back in a min, as shes resident expert on all things bat like in our house. there is a good likelihood that if they are active you would be able to pick them up on the detector, but i would think this would only be for maybe half an hour pre and post feeding so not in the middle of the day (but i may be wrong)
  5. nope bat has to be feeding outside and then you have to know roughly what your listening to, to id the bat species. I think its a bat box II i use, think they are about £100 and dont require a license as your not distrubing the bat,
  6. twincab 130, saws, fuel and everyday equipment etc, weighing in at 2660kg
  7. heatstroke sucks, head ache was so bad i didnt even want to turn the computer on for the last three hours
  8. second vote for adrian flux, came in about £80 cheaper than NFU on my 130landy and that was after i went back to NFU twice for quotes so they had a fair chance.
  9. i have to say i think agricultural chainsaw regs should be a lot tighter, i know most the farmers round me laugh at me putting chainsaw trousers and boots on, they dont even wear eye/ear protection (finally got my old man to get some PPE trousers) but i dont know of any of the farming community that wear any ppe at all, also there is a loop hole regarding training if its on your own farm (which is horrific quite frankly) i think everyone should have to have training of some type. other thing is most farm chainsaw use in my experience is either windblowns or hanging out of a telehandler bucket to do low branches round field edges (potentially two of the most dangerous practises without training/guided experience)
  10. nice bit of chilled trance for a sunday morning! (whilst stressing over a woodland management plan that was supposed to be done last week) [ame=http://youtube.com/watch?v=BUt-Gn80hD0]http://youtube.com/watch?v=BUt-Gn80hD0[/ame]

    Xp oil

had that on a John deere combine a few years back, came up with an error message and shut the engine down, had to get in touch with JD germany to find out what the hell it ment, turned out it was as the driver hadent been off the seat for 7hrs! trouble was we wasted a whole afternoon as we didnt dare to restart it! moral : to much technology can be a bad thing! (although it did mean the driver had a good break )
  12. That book is great, makes me appreciate how much easier it is now. I have just bough another 10ltrs of aspen yesterday, had a huge ash that has blown out across a lake to do on tuesday but they guy has just called off for a month so need to cancel the telehandler and tractors i had coming! still i think that bio oils and fules are the order of the day for this kind of work.

oh great i can imagine how many small sensors that will involve! and i guess that will probably mean no more working on your own saws when they pack up. Have to say i dont think i be to keen sending saws into our local guys to be fixed! sorry to derail the thead a bit, is this system and advancement on stihls intelli carb, which means that you cant set the carb manually so the emmissions will always be ok? I can see a point where you have and extra filler for 2 stroke mix and the saw will mix it for you like on 2stroke bikes.
  14. I run stihl bio plus in everything now as cant be bothered to swap about oils (you need to be wary about different types of oil emmulsifying when mixed). I buy it in a 25l container at a time, so its a bit cheaper that per 5l, I have it in everything from my 192t up to my 084 for milling, and havent really noticed that much difference since moving from stihls normal chain oil. Used some thames stuff for a bit, buying in bulk to run in the baler over summer and that was really nasty! although i must admit i do normally have the adjustable oilers open a bit higher than recommended, so i dont know if this is compensating for the difference in oils?

I run all mine on aspen pre-mixed now, its sold by husky so if it causes a problem with my saws i would expect husky to deal with it. i think any low smoke 2stoke oil at the correct mix ratio will be fine, sounds like hes feeding you a line to get you to buy the most expensive oil they have. Also why the need to shop around for a low cost surely its only a few quid for a container? it will cost more either driving to collect it or having it shipped the you will save unless your buying say 20litres?
  16. think its basically glyphosate and not much else apparently not as PA1 doesnt deal specifically with watercourses, what get me is there is a PA6CW which is granular pesticide application to a watercourse, sure these could be combined?
  17. Hi, Does anyone ever do any stump treatment near watercourses? If so do you apply for the correct environment agency consent to carry out the work? Our local EA office is sticking firmly to the person doing the application having to have PA6AW for hand held application of pesticides next to / on a watercourse, otherwise they wont grant the consent (they want proof first). This is a bit annoying to say the least although im seriously considering doing it as i dont have PA6 aleady (luckily else i would need to be re-assessed for the AW element anyway) So whats everyone elses take on this? where people even aware that this level of bureauacy existed relating to stump treatments in this situation. I'm starting to think sometimes its just easier to get on and do, rather that ask the questions I try and be as environmentally aware and stay the right side of the legislation, but i have to say this is a bit petty, i mean i have PA1 and 2, and i bet if i do PA6AW it will all be about knapsac sprayers which i have no interest in using as i have a sprayer on my quad and is covered by my other tickets. Anyway im starting to ramble thoughts please.............
  18. spent £89 filling the landy up today! which i criminal as it only has a 75litre tank, travelled round ashbourne to find the cheapest fuel and still ended up paying 121p/l dearest was 124, it was 118 three days ago, recon this strike in scotland is just and excuse for the petro industries to whip up a bit of panic buying and hike prices up as well
  19. thats just what i was thinking, as long as the output shaft from the current engine is the same as the orginal then there shouldnt be a problem?
  20. http://www.hydraulicplantservices.com/?gclid=CIfCjIr48ZICFQKIMAodezevvw worth a try, they claim to have lister petter parts both new and used so tis worth a phone call
  21. im no expert on the power of the 066 as i dont use one, Big A might be better situated to answer that but i would have though 48" would be to much, although if you can get the oregon chain for it with the suffix "RA" eg 27RA chain this is "skip ripping chain" so will only have cutters very infrequently and thus be slower but wont put as much load on the engine as its not pulling so many cutting teeth at any one time. i think if it was a one off then you will be ok but i wouldnt want to be milling that width timber a lot with that saw bar combo, also it means you need the auxilary oiler and the bigger mill for that size bar as the saw wont deliver enough oil to lubricate properly
  22. not with the mkIII as it supports the bar at both ends so the tip has to be clear of the trunk by about 3inches so you dont clamp the mill onto the bar sprocket. thats why a 36" bar will only mill about 30" width of timber
  23. tree monkey, can you rotate the log length ways on the logosol so you can theoretically cut double the width of the bar? or would it be to hard to match up?
  24. they just clamp onto the bar so no additional drilling, just to clarify my 084 with a 36" bar will only realistically mill 28" width, so if your trunk is 4ft wide you need a 56" bar to cut full width and there is no way a 066 will pull that (unless you dislike your saws) it sounds like you may need something more like a logosol big mill or M7 type set up, but thats some serious money [ame=http://youtube.com/watch?v=dY3iHJTq7Vs&feature=related]http://youtube.com/watch?v=dY3iHJTq7Vs&feature=related[/ame] or you have to try and square the sides up by eye to get them to a width that will fit in your mill what bar you planning to run on the 066?
  25. yep last week!
