Yeah they are taking the absolute piss, they are either sitting in the truck sucking each other off or slagging you off for getting pricked and looking for another job on there phones or they have done another 5 cash jobs at the neighbours. can you ask the customer what they are doing ? Shit jobs like that from my experience need to be led from the front and pace and example set … in fact all jobs really as employing people seems a f..,,ing waste of time.

I had the same yesterday and had to cancel the felling job booked in for the afternoon, I thought I would have finished 60ft of blackthorn and hawthorn mixed and 20ft of gappy beach done in a morning.. hedge was wider than it was tall, the terrain was a nightmare for setting up steps and the material just a little too big for hedge cutters so needed a chain saw for most of it, I also took it back on there side two feet past previous and bevelled the top to let more light in to thicken it, finished around 5 yesterday , I’m pretty sure if I’d left it to a couple of the guys who work for us to do the cutting it would of been two days.. I begged the customer to next time take full advantage of the estates flail next time it does the outsiders chuck him a drink to do as much as they can reach in the top.

So your posting on a public arb forum … I’ll emphasise that again Arboricultural forum, the care and management of trees… and don’t like the opinions of the other users probs best t fuck off then… how you have got away with destroying trees like that in the woodland under those conditions considering what was said on squardeys post pointing out there historic value sums up every thing wrong with the forestry commission and land owners in general. I would be checking out a CAT D9 owners forum and UK explosive experts forums instead.

That is a nice size trailer spud… would be a better bet than mine which Is a riko but forget the model number .. perhaps 370?? It is only 1.5 tonne , yours looks like 3t ? And has the benefit of the extending boom which makes a huge difference when loading thinnings that are not stacked roadside.

I think it will surprise you on what it will handle , I have had 4/5 of them now but the one I got from where Gand works seems have been the best one , I dunno if they fettled with the carb or something before it went out… one I got from the arb show last year seems to have the makings of another temperamental pile of shit though, I need to have a play with the carb as the low jet seems high.. would still take it over a 150 though.

Mint little saw for the same reasons as above, put a 1/4 pitch chain and stihl bar on and it’s a belter. Miles better than any of the competitors it has in the same class.

I once did something similar to a ground guy , well he was also an experienced climber…. Asked him three times to put another wrap on and he insisted he knew what he was doing , dragged him across the garden and under the stem I had just rigged off , personally I think he was to blame as he was more experienced but just didn’t like been told what to do… he also chucked one of the rings from said piece over a 6ft fence and on to another groundies head around 10 minutes later, also shat himself from a hang over that morning on the way too work too, can’t remember many days at work 20 years ago but this one sticks in my head 😆

If you did want to find work for such a rig I would recommend asking around land agents, most of that sort of work is done with grants and they are making the applications for land owners. The woodland trust have a lot of woodland thats young or needs low impact stuff in .. there is a lot of folk also buying small parcels of woodland these days that want thinning and softwoods removed and don’t want great big machines in. I think you would be wasting your time with farmers though as they won’t do anything unless they have a grant for it so unless you know them personally and you have a deal I would not rely on it to keep you in work. Good call… you maybe would be better looking at a second hand 8t trailer and tractor around 70-100hp and using the smaller tractor and winch to get stuff to the ride and for felling whilst using the bigger rig to forward timber to keep it productive in second /third thinnings where the tonnage is easier to make up… but a lot of the time it’s easier to fell to waste in first thinnings anyway as no one wants to pay the cost of extraction … thing is it’s an endless rabbit hole with no tool being perfect for every job, the smaller stuff is great for low impact though when it’s needed. In regards to use malus, the tractor gets used for topping , winching and some extraction with the trailer , the trailer work is not huge anymore … the most It did last year was the job in the first photo that was about 20 t and then about 60 large 14-20ft Christmas trees.. to be honest I don’t push for work for it as I’m far to busy doing arb works these days and we don’t have the staff to put in the woods as much anymore to make it viable. I would not sell it though as we have 30 acres of Norway spruce at home that’s on very boggy ground that I plan to thin and maintain and it’s ideal for messing about with using that set up.

Realistically only you will know what you need to earn to keep it viable but what ever that is I would stick £10 an hour or more on top too cover the cost of break downs. I would try and stick to a day rate although you can make good tonnage on the right stuff and ground , most of the time you won’t be. Also does your tractor have good hydraulic flow , I run an AGT 835 and it can be unreliable, if you can try and go pto powered crane with its own hydraulic tank as it will make it more reliable and improve performance. are they worth it? Well you could hand load a trailer but not all day every day with out getting tired.

Prefer the epple hook myself as the gape is wider on the shank , I found the dmm limiting and heavy although it is a piece of art…. Rigged up a carbon wrench with bits from tree stuff who sell wrench spares… in all honesty though you don’t really need it if your climbing single line for advancing as you can usually double up for descending as it saves getting the hook stuck.

True , if your ever winching or pulling over a tree you have to be pulling directly infront of the back lean and weight, a lot of folk think you can come from the side and pull it in to a gap .. even with a decent hinge it will still go with the weight most of the time.

I vowed never to get sheep again but got some Icelandic ewe lambs back in November, they seem pretty placid and easy to handle and have been no bother so far but like most sheep I would say they need to be handled to make them that way which is essential if you don’t have a well trained sheep dog .. although the black faces we had are usually wild , destructive escape artists and have one reason to live and that’s die.

And cars .. biggest killer of foxes and badgers , I’ve ran over at least 4 badgers , one night I actually managed to stop for one but as I pulled away at about 1mph the stupid thing ran back out from the hedge and put it’s head under the back wheels and killed itself in slow motion, was gutted as if I was pissed and walked home it would usually be on one of the paths and I would walk with it in front of me for a mile with it occasionally turning around and snuffling at me, they are creatures of habit and timing! another night hit one and it was still breathing so decided to put it out of its misery with a planting spade in the back of the truck , entered the pub 15mins later and the barmaid was like wtf have you been doing and I realised I had bits of badger and blood over my face and front, took a lot more than I thought to finish it off… one of my earliest memories is a badger digging under my dads chickens coup , getting in eating every thing and being to fat to get out , game keeper walking up to this angry thing and a laud bang of the shotgun. unfortunately we are know where near roads here now and there’s a lot of badgers , I’ve seen them try and take out adult sheep and leave them half chewed up but still alive , lambing is a nightmare as we can shoot the foxes but not the badgers.

I’ve always thought they Look dangerous mate , at least with the petzl caritool if you have a rigging line brush past you and it snags it breaks… I used to climb with a open metal hook until one I had rigging line do that with a large section and they had too lower that out with it still attached and pulling me off the limb luckily being doubled tied it didn’t do much but if it had been a larger top it could of been nasty, I think I’ve actually had that happen maybe 2 times 😆Bearing in mind if you rig in conditions where you’re pushed and confined and using a crane point to get material in to a DZ like say on a limb removal or reduction it’s quite a likely scenario as positioning can be tricky and that’s usually when you need to lower stuff out. I used to break caritools regular but it’s very rare now and it’s piece of mind for not a nice experience.

Dunno I’m only concerned if I don’t have a spare reel.

Can you recore a plastic radiator? I had an 2002 150’s recored but they made them out of decent stuff back then and was told they could not of done it if it was a newer machine.
