  1. They did do a short bloc that was cheaper than a new crank… work that out ! But was an easy fix. I may have an unused 562 crank case and bearings split (not a short block) will have a look tomorrow, you’re welcome to it if you pay postage.
  2. To be honest most of it would be for biomass boiler in 1 m lengths but I have a load of relatively straight ash I was going to mill but thought would be ok for processing if it was in billets as I’m about two loads short. I was thinking today maybe the splitter could be mounted the valtras loader.
  3. So you don’t need a 8+ tonne machine to make the most out of a screw splitter Stevie ?
  4. After opinions , I have a load of large over sized timber and am looking at splitting it down in to billets to go through a processor and for biomass boiler fuel. what would be the minimum size excavator and what are decent cones. thanks in advance.
  5. Other thing was the hose was crap but got my local forestry workshop to rig some decent pipe up with couplings and it’s been no bother since.
  6. Got same in my yard, well an Aldi one we bought a few years back , removes paint with the most powerful nozzle so would not advise that on but it’s been really good for the price over the last few years, a lot better than the previous petrol karcher ones which where total crap, the Aldi blows them away with performance and reliability. I even left it outside in the hard frosts we had the other day and was expecting it to have split the the water pump but was totally fine , but I do try and drain the whole thing when I’ve finished using it or any water pump really. only thing with IBC a water is it does get algae so you need to make sure the pre filter is not blocked most times you use it unless you use the suction hose which is available as an accessory. Another problem is the plastic wheels are crap but I’ve just bolted it to a pallet and move it with the avant if I have too.
  7. Run ours on 6400 , perfect but just be careful as the 8.5 is a hell of a winch and would probably flip the tractor before it stopped pulling 😆
  8. I haven’t seen him on here for a while Mike.
  9. A very long shot but worth a go…. I have one of the older style Denver mewps , the front switch on the travel lock was playing up and in my infinite wisdom this afternoon tried to take a photo of the wires before changing the broken switch … my hands been wet and fecking frozen didn’t take the photo which I didn’t realise until I had it all in place to tighten up and I now have a mewp that’s not right after an unlucky guess ! I will bung any one £50 by PayPal if they can take a photo for me of where the wires go on the switch, it’s two small screws to flip the cover , I can’t get any one to look at it for weeks and am stuffed without it on some jobs I have coming up.
  10. Making them work ! Few from the last week. Got pretty bogged today and had to go back for the 6400 and tajfun again , should of winched them out in first place but had eyes on the prize ! .cut a ride through in a straight line it was facing … was a little concerned about unloading the big logs in mud that deep and being unstable and coping the trailer in doing so left them on … but the tajfun got the blade in and had the 6400 up in the air and pulled the lot out no bother… wish I had some photos !
  11. 220 has pretty much the same chamber as a 235.
  12. The longer the better imo , once it’s on the log deck a 3.6 keeps you busier and you fill crates quicker.
  13. How can this be so ? Every week the media say there is another named storm with 100000mph winds hitting the country. logs though June -august is our drying time… never have found autumn to be any good for cutting and drying wood at all. you need more space I’m afraid and buy at least a year in advance.
  14. The first time I tried the Euro gaffs I’d left mine at home ,I had a shocking hangover from some surprise celebrations and a crane dismantle to do and was offered a pair to try. I loved them that much I went out and bought a pair.. they came with short gaffs though, still got on with them really well, I swapped them out for euros again a few months to get that magic feeling from that day and they felt nothing like I remembered and had to take them off after an hour to finish the job it was that bad… came to the conclusion it Must of been that I was still so pissed that they felt that great…
  15. Maybe look for somewhere different to live , a nice flat on the 20th floor where there’s no danger of trees in the present or future… as mick says it will be like 50 years even if that tree does do the damage your talking about.
  16. First is poplar or aspen second sycamore third?? fourth looks ash fith lime the rest of the photos look Norway maple and mix of various
  17. As long as you have the eye bolts visible you can readjust the cable be slackening the U bolts or even replace it if you can’t. ideally it wants to be done in leaf and the cable not too taught , a little bit of slack is good and gives the tree a chance to strengthen on its own , it will obviously slacken more when not in leaf and act more as a storm anchor. Do not remove it though altogether as the tree will have grown to depend on it and not built the layers it needs for strength in the wood if it’s been on for a long time. To be honest it must of been well installed , straight screw eye bolts on chestnut have a habit of pulling and they look we’ll compartmentalised.
  18. When the tip site directory was set up the average price of timber at road side would of been around £35 a ton and it’s currently around £65.. The idea of the directory was to make things easier for those firms that did not have space for timber and did not want to process it or where working too far from base and it wasn’t viable to spend time bringing it back and more profitable to go to the next site ASAP. This still may be the case in some instances but I think you have to be aware that if some one drops you off two tonne of ash that is worth potentially around £120 before it’s even sold as logs, despite the governments efforts to lock down the sales of firewood there is a huge demand for it to beat energy cost in the cost of living crises… it may well be worth offering a small insentive on your advert like say £30 a transit load for every one tipped , even if it’s soft wood or poplar it would be more worth while than nothing … offer more if you can , I was getting payed £20 a load 20 years back for ash.. any way I think a lot of folk are expecting a lot especially in certain more rural areas for a load of timber to turn up and be kept warm for free.
  19. 2511 with exhausts mod and 1/4 pitch stihl bar and chain for most stuff / small to large takedowns and large reductions, the weight compromise is absolutely crap anti vibes but it’s easy to climb a tree with and swap out to a 550 or 500i when needed. big take downs and if a bigger top handles needed a t540 would be next choice.
  20. I suppose as long as he’s not racking up lines on the truck dash then going out and smashing bits of tree through the roof and groundies heads there has got to be some give … not really on though bringing your gear on to your sites… even worse not not sharing it with the rest of the crew though.
  21. I suppose it depends on wether or not you need drug tests to get on sites for your work.. cocaine does not stay In the system for long so for warn him if you’re expecting it to be an issue… I’ve had that happen when I was employed and they where expecting me and the other climber to go on night work on the motorways. As drugs go though it’s unfortunately a part of modern life, I’ve shared a house with a coke dealer who was my best mate so I’ve seen a lot of folk come and go through there sad existence and loose a lot of money and there lives fall apart , personally I’ve lost family members and had good mates die though overdoses ,so I’ve got to say it does not appeal to me in any way once I got past 27.. even smoking a bit of weed to me was a graveyard of ambition for 15 years of my life that I regret… but it does seem to be part of society to have a drink and a cheeky line and to be honest if you employ people you have got to expect zero ambitions as a plus as it means they won’t try and take a grab for your business I guess… but on a whole the state of folk in general that is why I would try and do as much as possible myself and employ only those I personally trust anyway… think this industry has always attracted shall we say some of the more on the outskirts of society that involve drugs..
  22. I would feel disappointed if I was given a 461 over a 500…. Nearly the power of a 90cc saw that’s the weight of 70cc it’s hard not to want to use anything else.
  23. Is this a common failure? One of my mk2 550’s is running like a bag of nails like the crank seals have gone.. I have yet to strip it down though.
