  1. As said above, around 10-25 tonne a day but depending on site … they are no good on slopes or really rough ground already worked in with bigger machines. I’ve found most of the sites you work on unfortunately are grant dictated and most don’t care for low impact approach unless they are making money in first and second thinning but that could just be the land owners I’ve worked for.
  2. Another thing is what children are being taught… gay B C’s does a 4 year old need to know this , in my eyes this is tantamount to child grooming and whoever is responsible should be locked up. I have my 7 year old nephew staying telling me my cows are bad because they fart because that’s what they have told him at school. My misses goes to baby classes with this lass who was telling her that her youngest boy would not speak to his dad for 3 days … they finally got to the bottom of it and it was because the teacher had told him to not speak to his dad because he kills trees… this is keilder primary for gods sake!! Most the kids dads work in forestry and probably some of the most sustainable forestry in the world!
  3. Bollox Gareth , he’s buying up as much land as possible, what’s his reason behind this ?? Feed the people with some protein crap from a lab, every human needs food but it’s the one thing they don’t have full control of although you could argue in terms of who controls seed banks and there engineering … in this country I think they are in a stage of getting as rid of and green washing farming, every time I turn on the news there’s more bollox from the bbc about how dairy is responsible for the end of the world….. there will only be a large factory style farms left I think in the future.
  4. I think the problem is that the governments and people are not in charge , it’s the arms , pharma and energy industries that are in charge and are dictating what we do for profit … farming is in a transition but the way bill gates is playing it is an idea of how that will go too. in the meanwhile they are manipulating and running all media to convince you that this is the way it is.
  5. I think she has 1300 or 1500 hrs on max .. pete the whole hydraulics run off pto from chipper fly wheel but I will check. I have the seal kit but our yard is frozen solid so waiting for temps to get up and get over this covid bout and I’ll get cracking , just hope it’s not crank bearing !
  6. I’ll be fine mate, had worse hangovers tbh , it’s just frustrating when there’s so much to do and you have to resign yourself you’re better off doing nothing for a while, hopefully it warms up over next few days and I can sort out chipper for the new years onslaught … mewp has frozen solid any way and I don’t fancy doing any spike work n dirty big half dead ash trees feeling like this!
  7. Had minus 10 Tuesday night , bath water froze coming out the house blocking up every thing else .. I’ve resigned myself to sitting indoors and not doing anything but getting fires going after a positive covid test and feeling like I’ve been ran over yesterday , I guess pushing my self to do three weeks straight didn’t pay off … every machine in the yard is frozen and the chipper has done it’s crank seals and I’m convinced keeping everything running for an hour a day has made the problem worse by condensation re freezing on engines and hydraulics… looks like Christmas has started early!
  8. I’ve been close .. one particular nasty run in with a wanna be gangster who didn’t like waiting at traffic lights left me wondering how warm was my t540 is since coming out of the tree is and will it start first pull… I think he sees sense with the backing up traffic and threatens to come back and shoot me later. It never ceases to amaze me what absolute wankers there are out there and idiot drivers.. my old man was doing dangerous trees on the a68 near Burness , a woman ploughs in to the traffic management as they where setting up ignoring all lights and signs and one of the lads gets pinned by a jack knifed trailer and has to get airlifted out.
  9. I’m pulling the piss mate .. I’ve got two year old wood I cut two three weeks already reading 17% from 35-40 % but point that I was trying to make is the drier it gets or should I say older the more quickly it soaks up moisture if left out side. Almost all of my timber is on west face stacks on top of a hill so could in theory be well below 20% within one year as I’ve found any thing older than two it’s degraded too quickly, probably from drying out and then getting soaked again continuously.
  10. I’ve already cut any wood that we sell but I started again for our own boiler , stacked ash and beech two year old still reading around 40% just sell it back to them in winter as two year old timber, it soon sucks up moisture in December and your back near the weight you would of had when they where felled…. Could be on too some thing here 😆
  11. More oil than I expected … especially for the puddle under it! it’s got 1500 hrs on it which I didn’t think is high , I’ve ran them past 3000 and never had issues with kubotas in the past.. I’m just surprised this one had done this. hopefully the mechanic who was supposed to look this morning can shed some light on Monday on the best course of action.
  12. Was paying £60 a tonne plus haulage for the three artics we had in summer.
  13. So , I noticed a large pool of oil on the sump guard on the tracked chipper yesterday afternoon, it definitely was not there half hour before as I was checking that the rad was not blocked due to chipping in to a breeze blowing debris back … any way it appears to be coming from the crank seal at the front .. opinions on what to do next ! Either rebuild in full or just do the crank seal and is this an easy task ? .. I’m also not sure if it’s due to a frozen or stuck injector as there seems to be a stupidly high level of oil still in the machine which could have caused this although I have a feeling it could be due to over tightening the alternator..
  14. My sister told me her gas and electric bill is around £500 a month, nearly the same as their mortgage! Our only heating cost is the genny going off an hour or two a day to charge the electric that the water pumps are using in the wood boiler.. usually free during the summer thanks to solar but it’s amazing how useless solar is during the winter !
  15. I blame skateboarding and tree work for being an arthritic cripple at 45! Even using a basic hammer or paintbrush flairs up issues in my wrists … gone are the days where I would of thought nothing of splitting 50 tonne of rings a year for firewood thinking logs splitters are for pussies.
  16. Seriously I would forget about any axe use if you have pain in your wrists or elbows .. it will just speed up any problems , get any power assisted log splitter ..tractor pto being the best or even a cheap electric one.
  17. I would love to see the actual figures of how many chippers get stolen … out of 7 I’ve owned four have been stolen .. I would estimate it at around 50% of machines will get stolen maybe 90% or more depending on area. it’s a bloody big problem any way.
  18. They don’t , I did one local 14ft display tree first thing , a take up and down job then 6 at £30.. some of those had come from Whitley bay and Gateshead … they just wanted to take there kids in to countryside walk through 30acres of trees and choose one.. kids love it. I don’t really take it seriously to be honest and would happily let them all grow on and be harvested later.
  19. I took £450 today selling 7 trees .. I probably could of made 1k plus if I’d gone and done tree work for the same hours but then I could of not sorted out my house log shed whilst waiting for 7 people all day…if any one wants to buy a few thousand lodgepole or norways let me know at any time 😆 £6 each and you can sell them for £30 + = 30k
  20. Maybe a cube a week on this for two houses water and heating. about one tub a day on the esse for cooking. and maybe two barrows a day for the other three fires if they are lit… to be honest that’s rare and only on holidays in winter if there’s people in the house.
  21. Aye but they are ported too so you get the benefit.. my feeling was when they started getting cracks in the exhaust they lost a lot of torque, sounded and picked up great though… if you liked hearing damage.
  22. Thing is on the ms200 holes in the exhaust made them loose power , I think a 2 stroke needs a bit of back pressure for optimum power, the 2511 has a cat so is restricted and I guess the ms150 was for emission related reasons.
