  1. As long as you have the eye bolts visible you can readjust the cable be slackening the U bolts or even replace it if you can’t. ideally it wants to be done in leaf and the cable not too taught , a little bit of slack is good and gives the tree a chance to strengthen on its own , it will obviously slacken more when not in leaf and act more as a storm anchor. Do not remove it though altogether as the tree will have grown to depend on it and not built the layers it needs for strength in the wood if it’s been on for a long time. To be honest it must of been well installed , straight screw eye bolts on chestnut have a habit of pulling and they look we’ll compartmentalised.
  2. When the tip site directory was set up the average price of timber at road side would of been around £35 a ton and it’s currently around £65.. The idea of the directory was to make things easier for those firms that did not have space for timber and did not want to process it or where working too far from base and it wasn’t viable to spend time bringing it back and more profitable to go to the next site ASAP. This still may be the case in some instances but I think you have to be aware that if some one drops you off two tonne of ash that is worth potentially around £120 before it’s even sold as logs, despite the governments efforts to lock down the sales of firewood there is a huge demand for it to beat energy cost in the cost of living crises… it may well be worth offering a small insentive on your advert like say £30 a transit load for every one tipped , even if it’s soft wood or poplar it would be more worth while than nothing … offer more if you can , I was getting payed £20 a load 20 years back for ash.. any way I think a lot of folk are expecting a lot especially in certain more rural areas for a load of timber to turn up and be kept warm for free.
  3. 2511 with exhausts mod and 1/4 pitch stihl bar and chain for most stuff / small to large takedowns and large reductions, the weight compromise is absolutely crap anti vibes but it’s easy to climb a tree with and swap out to a 550 or 500i when needed. big take downs and if a bigger top handles needed a t540 would be next choice.
  4. I suppose as long as he’s not racking up lines on the truck dash then going out and smashing bits of tree through the roof and groundies heads there has got to be some give … not really on though bringing your gear on to your sites… even worse not not sharing it with the rest of the crew though.
  5. I suppose it depends on wether or not you need drug tests to get on sites for your work.. cocaine does not stay In the system for long so for warn him if you’re expecting it to be an issue… I’ve had that happen when I was employed and they where expecting me and the other climber to go on night work on the motorways. As drugs go though it’s unfortunately a part of modern life, I’ve shared a house with a coke dealer who was my best mate so I’ve seen a lot of folk come and go through there sad existence and loose a lot of money and there lives fall apart , personally I’ve lost family members and had good mates die though overdoses ,so I’ve got to say it does not appeal to me in any way once I got past 27.. even smoking a bit of weed to me was a graveyard of ambition for 15 years of my life that I regret… but it does seem to be part of society to have a drink and a cheeky line and to be honest if you employ people you have got to expect zero ambitions as a plus as it means they won’t try and take a grab for your business I guess… but on a whole the state of folk in general that is why I would try and do as much as possible myself and employ only those I personally trust anyway… think this industry has always attracted shall we say some of the more on the outskirts of society that involve drugs..
  6. I would feel disappointed if I was given a 461 over a 500…. Nearly the power of a 90cc saw that’s the weight of 70cc it’s hard not to want to use anything else.
  7. 500i all day long.
  8. Is this a common failure? One of my mk2 550’s is running like a bag of nails like the crank seals have gone.. I have yet to strip it down though.
  9. Something about the leaf lobes on the young tree looked more like Norway maple than sycamore , that’s possibly one reason why it was moved. do you know where anywhere you can get a pot grown sycamore? A bare root would not of survived being planted up there.
  10. I’m pretty sure that’s not the case eggs.
  11. There are a lot of local theory’s.. it’s just absolutely vile and sickening mentality to go and do that though, I only hope they are caught strung up.
  12. He hasn’t been charged yet…
  13. No they just felled it in storm winds, we had storm Abigail last night and a full moon, it was only going in one direction.. this was planned for such a night.
  14. I’m in disbelief, it makes me feel sick to be associated with this industry that there are people like that in it who think this is funny…. absolute vile disgusting act… I hope they are caught soon.

  17. I’d say we average 60-80 miles every day, the price for living somewhere remote but would not change it.

    FR Jones

Sad news , especially when you consider the amount of support Justin Jones gave this site and some of the events he organised.
  20. Looks like lukashenko was the highest bidder !
  21. I dont know if it’s worrying or hilarious that Uganda have vowed and Iran want to put troops in Moscow to protect Putin… just seen 217th guards airborne have defected to Wagner.. how many more will follow?
  22. At the end of the day they are mercenaries and always throughout history have fought for the highest bidder, so I’m not buying prigozhins patriotic stance for the motherland.
  23. another worrying thought is they moved a load of Nukes in to Belarus and Lukashenko has apparently last night done a bunk to turkey after a phone call with putin and amid rising tensions in Belarus…
  24. Can’t help but think one scenario is that nato intelligence are now possibly paying him 😆
  25. Will be interesting as any gains they have made seem to have been spearheaded or achieved by Wagner, the Russian army on a whole appears to have been virtually useless… I don’t know what would be more worrying though a paramilitary group running Russia or putin staying in control.
