    Regional styles.

Why is the Northumberland style haphazard ? It is very hard to find any info on it on the internet of books ,but to be honest I don't mind doing it if your getting paid by the meter as it is a lot easier. Personally I would stick to the regional style for the reasons it's easier and the tradition of the area , it's like seeeing French roofs on Northumbrian buildings !
  2. https://melit.ee/wp-content/uploads/2020/04/ch_260_eng_v2.pdf Another with pictures... Are you still running a 160 Mike ? I haven't used a farmi for about 15 years but seem to remember the pto speed being relatively low , maybe it was on 1000rpm ?
  3. They look good rich but chainsaw protection would definitely be a requirement, the Kayos seem to be the only ones.
  4. Not unless your using it in a forest or woodland ....any way only for forestry would be my guess on reading the latest red diesel regs.
  5. First pair of arbortecs I brought I got a refund after 3 days , hence the question mate. As tom says they look good for climbing , I've been wearing big fell hunters after ankle injuries for support but they seem ok now and recently switched back to an old pair of Andrew's about 6 months back and my ankles feel a lot better for climbing in the Andrew's , maybe not on spikes and trekking through swamp wood land.
  6. Any feedback on them from users ??
  7. I would say there was a lot of difference in cutting speed, waste , and longevity , I can cut a years worth and more on one blade usually.. how often would you have to sharpen a chain, change a bar ? And then there is oil consumption. On a good day I can get two dumpy bags of dust off a Pocshe 360 and would hate to think what that would equate to with a saw cross cutting plus there is a lot less of a market for contaminated saw dust.
  8. Would go circular on a bigger Machine for sure.
  9. My money is the operator carving up the ground....
  10. I'm lost .... where did you see that it said Amey ??? What has that got to do with it any way ??? Have you seen the standard of there work n the north east as in my area it seems pretty good , some of the amey gangs I've seen seem able to produce a good standard of work better than most arbs and look like good hard working crews.
  11. Still got a load of them mark if you know any one who wants one for a guitar [emoji38]
  12. It is , needs a coat of floor wax to bring out the colours though..
  13. You do not need an avant !! Cheap winch, par buckle up ramps ,bloody easy and your log looks twice as good as the one I made a small effort for...worse part was driving it home. now residing as my stairs. Do not leave it to splat either , it just goes green and looks shite like sycamore.... you want the rippling and burrs !
  14. Where in Northumberland are you based ?
  15. Have you any pics of timber finished this way ?? I'm looking for a hard finish on woods but have never used a polyurethane or acrylic finish. My thought on yew is that oils tend to turn it brown and loose the reds , I would like to keep yew as natural as possible to its final finish after sanding and preserve those colours if that's possible.
  16. Ran a 360 for years until I wrote it off rolling the trailer it was mounted on in a forest ditch , it was an impressive little crane with a good lift capacity and reach.. wish I'd kept it and got it roof mounted on the valmet 6400 as they would of been ideally suited. Currently running a 580b and the 360's lift wasn't far off it.
  17. 334 was a lemon the 338 wasn't actually a bad saw , especially the last run off the production with bigger cc's
  18. All a bunch of total wankers but Keir proved his worth at pm question time by wasting all his 6 questions on the subject of the party ...when there are far more critical questions and answers needed at this time.

    Chickens?

Have found electric fences a must , well for us anyway as I've seen foxes go through or under enclosed runs .. they seem to get a few hits off an electric fence and never go near them again.

    New cheapo saws

Some one gave me the same saw but an oleo version , very good little saw , absolutely trashed it or tried and it would not die !
  21. Would be worth a try hey ?? A lot of folk who I know who run jap bars are very happy with them.
  22. I'd rate cannon and GB bars if your not bothered by weight , I'm only running a 36" and 12" Sugi's as they haven't needed replacement but I've had to do two nose sprockets in both those bars ...but there was a point when All my mid range 50-60cc front line saws where running sugi and I was far from impressed in the investment .. I've no idea how far in performance they differ from tsumura bars but Sugi nose sprockets I've found to be to hard and brittle.. the bars them selves are not that light even the lite versions ! but are very rigid and strong... which can be a bonus if working in multiple windblow on a slope and inevitably you get a saw stuck and need a stick winching to get it back [emoji38]
  23. Id rather stick with the husky bars , a Sugi nose replacement is the same price as whole husky bar and I haven't found them to last any longer , I've even had sugi bars last less than two weeks before the nose sprockets have shat itself. Sugi maybe good for Arb work where the saws don't get used as much but haven't found them to stand up to forestry work.
