I'll call yours out as bollox , I bet 100% you now have a 100 young pretenders coming in for miles every night with the potential to do far more damage if there is a guaranteed food source such as reared birds available .. I know and have lived on estates most of my life and was once told not to shoot the big dog fox that was at the back of my house by the keeper who had over 70 years of experience , I was told if I did every fox for miles would come in and try and take his territory , nature has a balance with apex predators and does need them. I know keepers who have shot the big dog fox and have then had to spent the next month shooting 100's of young pretenders coming in for that prime territory.

I don't get your problem with poles on sites either, climbed ,stripped and dropped 4 big norways on the edge of a clear fell that they didn't want damaging the oaks they are trying to restore, no timber recovery on the 6 trees we did but all the stripped trees where letterboxed and undermined cog cuts for the big poles that went over absolutely no bother and bang on with minimal wedging whilst the last two we dropped conventionally and whole needed a good pounding to get them to move to the point I was considering going back to the trucks and dragging the jacks out..

I towed gangs on a avant that a customer had sitting in a garage and wanted rid of for a season , was far quicker than the stiga I'm now using but had to done more regularly and the avant wasn't great on wet ground but it did leave a good finish.. just wasn't overly keen on racking up hours doing that with a machine I don't really want to replace.

I'm sorry but I completely disagree , dogs are by far the best way to keep a controlled balance , foxes have no apex predators and dogs are the closest next to wolves that we have eradicated , a hunt will very very rarely catch a fox.. if they do it will be the knacker one that is so desperate for food it will tear it self apart in doing so to get in your chicken run or pets cages as it's incapable of hunting. Shooting is an indiscriminate way of controlling them , it upsets the natural hierarchy and balance potentially to take out strong foxes that keep an order like most predators do naturally ... One thing I've noticed about anti fox hunting argument is it's always started with "it's for rich twats on horses" , I have no time for class war especially the idiots that live by it especially hunt sabs , I can honestly say that some are the most hypocritical and vile people I've met .. any way hunting is illegal ! Folk who do ride in hunts now do it for the simple fact it's basically point to point whilst chasing dogs ... I know plenty of riders who are far from rich Tory twats they just have a genuine love of horses and riding.

Same as when dismantling or felling stripped poles saves a load of grief with pull lines ... I would not or very very rarely do it on whole trees though.

If your a new operator you will probably be given the joyful job of brashing out the outsiders so machines can deal with them and carrying the jacks and wedges for the operator felling the larger ones. Not thrilling work but it's all saw time and good to observe.

Depends on who does the reduction though if it looks shit or not mark, I've seen some very good ones along with some of the worse I've ever seen on blue cedars ...

Had 27 sea trout last season , this year was for about 6 , they say commercial netting does not effect the runs but it's hard to not think that due to COVID they where not operating at peak run time last year and the result was pretty amazing... I was reading that north East Sea trout go to feed in Norway in deeper waters which is why they get so big unlike the west coat sea trout which just stay off the coast. Any way amazing fish.

Now that's a sea trout!! Caught in the estuary? My PB is 11lb but been in the river and black as owt !! Do get some sparklers earlier in the season though.

Sorry again to read this ....Wankers mate ... from the thieves to the insurance company's .... last time I was turned over they put my claim under investigation as they said it was that secure and the levels I had gone too they thought it was an inside job and they would not pay out... , they did after 3 months but where in the mean time are you going to find the money to replace all saws , climbing and rigging kits and a chipper to keep you working , can't win [emoji35]

It's not dangerous if you follow hse guidelines and have had the correct training then good mentorship once completed to get you up to scratch and stick to it. Accidents should not happen or be happening.

Yeah I think it is when they are accounting for most of the injuries or fatality's , why our insurance premiums go up and why we are surrounded in so much legislation we have to roll with so we can then be undercut by a weekend warriors doing it for beer tokens and the firewood.

Would be good that any pro saw had to be programmed with a current and up to date NPTC qualification for the operator to use ... I would not feel so bad then about taking days off for refresher and thousands on new units that mean absolutely nothing to most customers , would mean only qualified operators could do the jobs too.

Just stand on your feet more upright like rich says , what are you using to advance the hitch ? Hand ascenders can work but you should be aiming to let your legs do the work..kinda the point in it really...

I used one the other day without the saw on when I was subbing on a small reduction and was impressed even more so when he said it was from Liddle for less than £15! , wether it would last for commercial use is another thing ! But would definitely be worth it for a few small trees.
