  1. Looks really good james.
  2. I have one but with out a pulley it's not on par with the wrench imo especially with a double rope..... Was taking on your comments on another thread
  3. That won't be the HH then!!! I think a haas type system is essential , I never thought to try it until the other day but after I realised my rope wrench and hitch hiker had been left in another bag off site I would have to ascend 50ft of thin air on a double rope, the haas worked really well at that task. I think both systems have there pros tbh ascent really is the main one for me with SRT but carrying ascenders and the rope wrench tether flopping around trying to work a canopy and getting in the way I find myself using ddrt a lot still as to me it's simpler in a crowded canopy. Inspiration though. [ame] [/ame]

    Countryfile.

    Ha ha very true.
  5. Making up for last year then!!
  6. If you like Stihl then stick with them, I have the 395 can't fault it but it's an old design now.
  7. First thing I do with a new xp saw is take the spark arrester out, been using a 550 xpg for a month or so now and report no problems so far , it's an amazing little saw better than any 346 I've used or 50 cc saw for that matter It becomes a bit boggy when running out of fuel that's the only warning it gives before stopping but have had no issues hot starting.
  8. FFS !! When did any one on the whole of this thread state they wear type a's because they look good ??? They look identical if any thing type C's look better imo.. Neither did any one say anything about been worried about sweaty legs it's heat stroke and exhaustion and associated disorders from dehydrated if wearing type Cs is making people complacent enough to use the saw in a bad position then I would go as far enough to say the german approach some one mentioned at the start of the thread is the way forward and if I'm honest there are plenty of skilled climbers in this country who don't wear any leg protection in summer ... Myself I would not consider that an option as my saw conditioning at times is a flailing mad man but being in control and not sloppy is more important to me now than just getting the job done in what ever manner necessary.
  9. Triangle cut with a big sharp saw and watch it pop off, just don't get the saw stuck in the bottom cuts!
  10. Twice !!!! I only went full retard once mate.
  11. Unlike Mr Bourne I've managed to put a saw in trousers a number of times and it's never dragged them around , thing is any saw over 50cc on full chat and they are going through , they literally just cut straight through and chuck them out the back like saw dust also the Kevlar is pulled up the leg not side ways as I found out once dismantling an oak in a snow storm. Any way once thinning and raising an avenues of street limes in the middle of August I looked down to see I had left a peg so thinking it's ok I've got type C trousers I make an under leg cut instead of going down a few feet to get better positioning and yes the saw kicked back and went in to the rear calf of the SIPS type C I was wearing, I quickly drew the conclusion I would not of attempted such a stupid cut if I had been not so flaked out with the heat and definitely not if I'd Worn type A's thinking I have no protection so use a better work position has been my thought ever since and it's worked.
  12. Yes.. Heats an issue mate I wore type C,s for the first 10 or so years of my career but I wear type A's now as I get dehydrated and kidney stones sweating my nuts off in summer as you get older you also get weird heat rashes , shingles and other crap so I'll stick to my type A's and wonder why in disbelief wearing type C's was ever an option and how much overheating all the time probably messed my body up.
  13. Thing is beech failing with merripilus is quite a site, they usually have full healthy crowns but no anchor root system so it's just not worth the risk if there's high risk targets, crown reduction from experience will speed up the roots rotting that said I've reduced a few with low risk areas, they are still standing to my knowledge .. My guess is they cut through roots building the play ground in the first place and a good reason to suggest to clients NEVER carry excavations any were near the crown of mature beech.
  14. Merrip on trees near play ground or roads .... Fell.
  15. How are you getting on with the new chipper ?? Cheers ,mat
  16. Type C's give you some false sense of security that it is exceptable to use the saw in a totally stupid position because your too hot and bothered and exhausted to position your self properly.
  17. I'll go along with that and stubby with the zermatts are the best spike boots. Im wearing Arb pro boots after years on pfanners and they kill my feet by the afternoon.
  18. Type A for me.
  19. No mate it's on a school site so I have to clear it with the relative permissions... Hopefully as I want to get it on the mill it has not been cleared as we felled a number of trees on site and the wood had to be left in manageable lengths. .. This was no though !!
  20. Few years back went from a Porty to a 2000 and there's no going back..out performs it in every way in load capacity and handling. Fixed bollards are even better , pre tensioning is the way forward though in many ways and would not go back.
  21. Alveo vents good ,very comfy but you get a lot of dust through the huge vents but it's a good compromise as its so light and comfy. The protos and your 560 won't mix though Jon the hearing protection is that bad with the huskys high pitch cutting screams you will have damaged your hearing by break time... I had to wear ear plugs and that's if the muffs have not fallen off before you start cutting or its given you a head ache as its that un comfy just to wear.
  22. Got a spare 560xp its a beast but want £350 for it or £400 with 15" Sugi hara bar , it's 2014 approx 10 months old and has 53.40hours on it... It my back up 560 and not getting used enough. Probably more saw than you need though.
  23. Good news he was getting dull and boring on top gear ....watching a bloated, bumbling old man with a hang over is depressing.
  24. Last time I lent a chipper out to an old groundy and good mate it came back on a tow truck minus a wheel... Have never lent out any thing since, not even my worse back up saws.
