  1. Some SRT reductions on smallish trees today 20%ash 35% on cherry and a walnut. Problem with this SRT stuff Is I think I'm getting out of shape as it's making it all to easy ,Monday and Tuesday on spikes with big saws I could feel it trying to clamber about today !
  2. Yvonne can get you what you need for sure ! I might be imagining it but I'm pretty sure I saw them in there show room recently...
  3. That's really good to hear , is it rude to ask you how it got returned ?
  4. I know of a member on here who had one and didn't say many kind things about it, I'm surprised he has not commented all ready on the thread but the long and short of it was it broke down lots... And for the money I think he was glad when he waved it good bye.
  5. This is one bit of kit that you would think would resurface again.. I hope it does.
  6. No it does not deserved to be felled but on the bright side it should mill nice... On all of that I think it puts the tree officers in a very hard place when people start threatening legal action if there kids are harmed by berries!! Very sad times we live in that trees like this can't be protected but we don't make the rules.
  7. I was involved in a similar fell a few years back after the owner had young children on two occasions eat berries one of them was not hers so that was more of a scare of being sued ...also with the tree being right by the back door of the house it meant berries been trod through the house by children all the time as well!, initially my response was tell them not to eat the berries and make them take there shoes off!! But kids will be kids. The tree officer obviously didn't want the hassle so agreed on a fell. Any way the tree was lucky to have been over a 100 , it appears in late Victorian times chaining mutli stems together so they fused quickly to give the appearance of an older tree was common practice with yew as I was expecting mine to be over 300 .... I could be wrong but I imagine this tree to be a near exact situation... So to the original poster get on and fell the tree and get it milled up because if you don't and there's permission plenty of contractors will jump on it!
  8. Edit it's a cm now ! To be fair try the 357 on 3/8's I think it will make a huge difference. The 362 in your vid looks a usable saw now.
  9. It's all in the sharpening ... You can have the fastest saws in the world but if you can not get the best out of the chain there is no point. Interesting on the 362 though is it a cm model ? Also did the 357 have new rings?
  10. Long rope and base anchor set on the first tree, get the groundies to unclip or untie when you reach the third third tree and pull it back through and set another base anchor or as I would prefer a retrievable pinto tie off for the last tree. I would prefer to use a snake anchor so I'm not relying on other people tying a knot I can't see.
  11. I've gone through 3-4 trees off the first anchor SRT ,natural redirects and and throw hook make transitioning a breeze and definitely makes drt redundant in that situation for me, in fact last time I did a work climb on a double rope I had to ask for my wrench and ascenders 20 mins in to it.... I absolutely hated SRT work climbing as well for a few years.
  12. I would seriously consider an alpine with a decent 3tonne trailer. Then you have a machine that can be used for many other duties from winching to splitting timber ect and would come in a lot cheaper, ground clearance is not great but a hydro winch on the front should keep you out of trouble.
  13. I would send you some more saws to port mate , and not the junked ones either but you look too busy these days !
  14. I've had a 3120 and seized it but it was an original first released model .. 880 and 088 also and would pick up the 395 every time unless I want a 40" plus bar.
  15. I was working along side a fella the other day telling me the 150 was King for various reasons , whilst I was in to 20meters of my hedge with a 540 and he had just got past 5m with his 150 I could not really agree. Great saw for certain jobs for sure but no replacement for a full powered top handle.
  16. Any folks running a forwarding trailer off a quad? What would be the minimum engine requirements ?
  17. Good idea reg , I will try this but got to admit I have stopped using my New England wire core for the reason of failure as you said..some one did give me recently a load of those big old sweedish strops which I quite like for brashing out Sitka as they snap every twig out the way as they are so heavy !we get asked to do thinning of mature Sitka and it can be easier just to climb off a single point side strop for most of the tree than the carry on of trying to winch it out once hung up felling it especially if there is no space . Never liked or used those snap locks though.
  18. On our tw I noticed a disconnected wire, re connected it and no stress control stopped, most of the early timber wolfs and all entec machines may have been modified if they have had a new stress control fitted at any point since 2002, I can get a picture to show what wire to not reconnect if you notice it... Recently the machine was refurbed and the no stress was not working , I remembered the wire and problem solved. Maybe worth checking.
  19. Definitely the most satisfying part is watching pile of finished lumber grow for me, looks some lovely oak that.
  20. Spud ported and popped up 560, always handy for making a big mess quick.
  21. Any pics of the final product?
  22. Rubber boot from carb to engine splits but I would at a guess say it sounds like a broken clutch Spring . Does the saw stall when applying the chain brake.
