  1. Meeoww!! You used to waltz in for free anyway Carl!
  2. Excellent news, well done to all who took the exams. Now you can have your evenings back...just try not to forget everything you have worked so hard for!!
  3. Happy birthday Andy! all the best, Paul
  4. Hi - didn't you already ask this? You got some replies and questions last time...http://arbtalk.co.uk/forum/general-chat/11500-what-stage-tree-not-classed-immature.html
  5. Did you get my PM re the CAD course?

  6. Some sort of raft foundation across the main roots would make sense to minimise future damage. How close are we talking - does the stem touch the wall or is it set back a bit?
  7. Yes - New England Tachyon.
  8. No problem here - I have the orange rope and use it with a VT made from Roblon 8mm.
  9. Holy cow. Hope nobody was hurt (no time to read full story at the moment).
  10. The Jacaranda's are stunning at the right time of year too- great blue blossom (forget when though). Arb is in it's infancy out there as far as I can tell - none of my wife's family out there could believe I had a job in urban tree care. I think it is seen as a labourer's job there. Must be some great opportunities....
  11. Nice! Look out for the baobabs - often known as upside-down trees as they look like stems with straggly roots on top. I am also going in January - hoping to go to Tsitsikamma National Park and do the canopy tour there as I have heard it's pretty good.
  12. I use a Lecia disto for measuring distance, and a haglof digital clinometer for angle/height. Not sure if that is a cheaper alternative to the above option as used by fluffy bunny.
  13. Nice work AS! Good to hear some working feedback. Sounds like you get some interesting jobs.
  14. Ha! Good post Tony. At 10 metres it is likely to be fairly decent for a Yew. Hey Jondawes, won't you reconsider? You have a nice piece of history in that Yew. Would be a great shame to wipe it out just because of a minor worry.
  15. If I was a bit closer I would jump at this...sounds like a great job.
  16. Thanks for posting alliaria. Nice to have a fellow Bristolian on here! Where abouts are you?
  17. Unfortunately so true - I have never understood why so many tree surgeons are so crap at actually arriving and providing a written estimate. Surely we all need the work!? Hope you find a builder...
  18. Looks like a good trip Steve. Smile Reg, ha ha!
  19. Think of it as a gift of free leaf mulch for your garden!
  20. I have used Arbortrail a bit in the past - developed by Chris Skellern who runs the AIE website. It was really easy to use on site but only currently works with CAD drawing files. Don't know if that would suit your purpose?
  21. Do you think a bracing system of some sort would have been appropriate in these trees?
  22. 10.5 stones in the summer. Haven't climbed regularly since June though so I expect that has crept up alarmingly...

If you would like to contribute to making this industry more effective and safe then welcome.
Just like a living tree, it'll always be a work in progress.
