  1. an interesting article the issues of which have been known for years the difference with this industry & that of other service sectors is that there arent any real rules merely guidance & is the absense of rules , many poor delivery techniques creep in & even where legislation has been made it is often over swept for the benefit of those involved disheartening those practioneers who aspire to see the industry recognised for those professional service providers out there OF ALL SIZE consultant & contractors then we have the under the radar arboricultural industry that undermine those involved in attempting to deliver a quality service though I do agree if the industry is to get any foot hold on these & many other issues then to lobby government we would need a concise focus our current situation rightly leaves member organisation speaking for their members but as a wider voice they clearly dont speak with a loud enough voice. rgds Iain
  2. I all depends on how seriously you would take the rambling of a guy you've never met & also where your pension lies if your a public sector work then I doubt he seems funny but the real issue isnt about comments made by these types ,what really is the core issue is what happens next , euros going to go bust > break up of european alliances > deep **** all the way around the BBC are outrageously over paid when you see what the newbies in the forces get to go to Afgan so to be really frank who cares what is said by clarkson & whether he should keep his job
  3. yep ................. his rep is spreading lock up yr timber .... hahaha
  4. so thats how you get your timber is it Pete lol
  5. as with all planting preparation is everything,, good soil profile to allow new trees to establish & anchor ,, dont forget to ensure sufficent water personally I wouldnt choose conifers , more toward a natural 5 sp mix hedge rgds iain where abouts in gods county are you > ?
  6. amazing to think that given the time of year that the French & Germans are apparently working together to save a flawed concept control by the backdoor Greece are knackered & the Italians are way worse off than the Greeks , then the Spanish , followed by the portugese ,& southern Irish which will knock on to those investors in Bonds & shares bloody nightmare cheap holidays lol
  7. keep it under a grand & you'll be right
  8. Ben rec'd your email however your yahoo account doesnt allow us to respond we get a permanent error response , you say you & business partner are building the business, yet you say you are looking to go self employed & that havent yet got insurance so Im confused are you looking for subbie work or employment >> ? rgds Iain
  9. Hi Ashley the receipt is vital in any date deadline senerio, though Outlook express does give the same option & I take on board your comment re requests for further info from planners however there are no timeframe I am aware of to allow for this its either valid or not .. though some kinder officers may ask for ommited details , they are not obliged to do so My point is 'if' when sent IT is valid then the clock runs from that date,, NOT a date when an over strectched admin assistant can get around to logging it on the system. As for recorded details ,, a very true statement though if working on a default document & unique file saved for each cleint then again this can be done in house & to my mind is more accessable than PP I thankyou for your action re 5837 I have recently been involved in a planning notice that involves & impacts on a number of mature preserved trees, yet the buliding application was registered by the planning debt & put before committee without any 5837 MS or AIA rgds Iain
  10. gaffer tape bodged in from a mewp LOL then in the new year you can the cut out the lights with a craft knife before the tree goes through the chipper oh just read the last bit 5 years bleedin hell you lot want yer moneys worth ,, must be from Yorkshire .............. answer plastic fixings coiled / Spiral they'll expand with the tree+ speak to Anthony Tell him I said you were to give him a ring http://www.lumisphere.co.uk/trees.html
  11. Ashley We already apply electronically through the email link as per PP to the LA / councils. It is cheap effective & there is a definate date of send if sent through Outlook express or other to the email provided address My grumble .... Tree work notices Where deadlines are set, as with Conservation notifications I believe the applicant is entitled to have a positve email read reciept. Which are not always answered despite requesting such confirmation perhaps this is as some LA's do defer registration of the notice of works as in their view the timeframes only commence once this notice is verified as complete. dispite the fact that if correct the notice is in fact complete on their receipt , therefore the applicant is somewhat misled as to expiry of notice ie 6 weeks from notification of intent sect 211 notice , this is perhaps due as not all planners understand the planning requirements as far as documentation needed & in truth this is true of applicants too also the knowledge off strict timeframe(s) re notification & applcation process are permitted to run Trees in relation to construction building application In our experience not all planners understand the planning requirements as far as documentation needed when structures / built environment applications are made the Bs5837 arboricultural report, method statement & Arboricultural implication assessment statements are often left out in the cold by many planners but these should where applicable form part of the mandatory process rgds Iain
  12. sizable bark split can happen in vigorous growth events Though in regard to your wider question in general & not specific to this If you think the works you are engaged for arent justified Or more works are required then really its upto you to stand your ground as highlighted by AA Techie the book stops with the last profesional @ 1 year so thats YOU ,,where it can be reasonably be expected that the event could be forseen AS you've raised concerns apparently, as yet though you've dis reguarded your own counsel if the inspector is wrong then he's wrong but he aint climbed it & you have ,, I would if I were you ! write / email the client advising them to seek qualified professional advise as to the condition , integrity & suitability for retention. As whilst carrying out the works to their specification note was made of potential significance to that specimen which falls outside the remit of your instruction rgds Iain
  13. basically your accountant will start a directors loan account for the business so all assests at the point of transfer incoporation are allocated a value , which over time will depreciate time in the same way as a ST though the directors loan will not alter at the same rate ( accountants stuff ) this can then be drawn against also as shareholders they can draw a return on the ownershipo of the business & the LTD only pays tax at corporation rates.
  14. the value is largely in the type of client really.. most private individuals are more susceptible to the vagaries of disposable income, corporate or larger budgeted organizations with statutory responsibilities are less likely to walk away what might also bring you money, are your books prove of sales ,fixed & or depreciable assets, inc phone number the rest hinges on your client base I'm afraid. do you know what percentage of turnover your profit is & do you pay your self a set realistic wage or do you live on drawings weekly / monthly> dependant on income of the business ? rgds Iain
  15. As far as I can recall NO as the Vat has been dispersed unless you are making a profit from the transaction then Yes ( though this may only be on the profit ) but you should seek qualified accountants advice or hmrc
