  1. Well if you take the data correctly & the data is then put through Marcus's system & he gives you a report that’s says its safe or not safe , then if he's wrong you can tell the client & the judge NOT ME GUV its him ,, he said so .,... the math bah , Marcus isn’t going to give that one away is he ! He says he can defend it & has statistics that back the claim So why worry if you've collected the data correctly & conveyed the report to the client Nb this isnt designed to replace the arborist on site, merely to enhance them & aid the rate of data collection & insure that the data can be verified later & this removes some of the subjectiveness However Still have your eyes open , take a hammer & a probe T I has limitations however it also brings alot to the party too We recently did 63 200yr + limes & they had lots of issues that go along with that kind of seniority of trees don’t last for ever , however these will last longer than they may have done had the functionality not been verified None to be removed 'Which is good ' just some minor corrective works
  2. should that not have been ' HERE' not ' hear' sorry to be picky
  3. Believe me when you get hold of a thermal imaging camera you will be using it to look at everything. The dogs in the office are the first, but then it progresses to the computer key pad, heat loss from your house, your children's cold symptoms and in my case your unborn child....... Already have matey WHEN the insurance industry gets behind it........ IT IS ONLY A MATTER OF TIME
  4. Recession fuels rise of cowboy tree surgeons, says Health & Safety Executive Horticulture Week 25 June 2010 The Health & Safety Executive (HSE) is responding to a rising number of complaints about rogue tree surgeons, according to field inspector Ian Whittles. Speaking at The ARB Show, he said: "There's been more cutting of corners, though we can't easily get a handle on numbers. It can be lack of training, not using proper kit, not having a ground crew, pulling trees down with ropes, charging over the odds or just doing a bad job. "Often workers only have a mobile number. Customers will have paid them in cash then want to know what we are going to do about it." But he urged people to report cases to local HSE offices. According to Arboriculture Association director Nick Eden: "The industry isn't Government-regulated so anyone can buy a chainsaw and call themselves a tree surgeon - and in a recession, more people are tempted to do that. But it's bad for safety, bad for trees and bad for the committed industry members." Well I've tried that & guess what ,," We dont have anyone available " until 2 days from now
  5. Theres an obvious issue that has not really been seen here either Professional indemnity & Public Liability insurance , as seen by the insurance industry & later perhaps a court , a Ti camera is a factory calibrated device that has known parameters & ain Marcus's system a % of accuracy based on an ever expanding study group of trees The survey images, both thermal & normal are recorded & retained + the data like wise I as a simple human I aren’t no matter how good we think we are FACTs are just that & an opinion based on experience & knowledge are not easily defined ,so from the underwriters point of view which seems more tangible ? theefore if the insurance industry get behind this htere is also the potential increase due to public liability which is held by tens of thousands of estate . land owners authoritys utilities etc etc So to lenghten the call for TI due to the underwritter making a provision requirement by utilising a defensible quick , reliable & documented tree management assessment system that easily works along sode other existing methods Debate ............

  15. Brodie ,you are very correct in what you say re plumbers & electricians The problem in being able to sustain the wages you talk about need a constant flow of good revenue & as you mention there are many other reasons some of which depend on which side you sit , newbies well we all were there once , though there certainly seems to be a glut of staff wishing to get into this kind of work kudos or coolness & discovery channel programs To draw comparisons to other trades our industry has a large amount of competition from a wide spectrum of have a go's so it can be extremely hit & mis dependant on the client sector ,most prominant in the private domestic market greedy employers , well maybe but lets face it they are theones paying the wages & risking the overheads , so WHY not I agree some could or maybe even should pay more ,however given the factors above they may not then look at the impact of transiant staff levels an employer may also face , if they invest in a staff member give them the skills & training they are then somewhat behind as those things cost money so they need to recoup them THe money that you see being charged IS far from the profit made. You may find what you are looking for in taking the risk for yourself & goin on your own Be that employer this is not an answer but I do feel you will struggle to attain the wages you seek , they are out there but It maybe in your interest to take a lower starting wage & prove your loyalty & Ability , in that way your foot is in the door & the employer is more likely to want to retain you as see you go to a competitor. If you can add value to their business they'll know it so long as you disguss your goals at interview , then you all know what to expect

  21. Lots of interesting comments , re the initial re over hang it is right to say that a person or agent of a person can remove to the boundary such that breaches the said boundary branch or root, not forgeting the restrictions provided within the T&C, again a nusiance must be actionable & the remedial works must be only that which wil abate the nuisance. that is as far as a nusiance is concerned. Remember You A contractor if working outside of the remit given for statutory undertakings or other powers mentioned earlier Miscellaneous Provisions Act, Asb Act Have NO power or authority to enter / trespass on a third partys land or in the tree & whilst it is commonly agreed that the reduction cuts can in theory be made upto but no further than the boundary ( inso far as it is Reasonable Tort) You must also consider the reasonable view of a judge if you make cuts that damage the tree whether or not covered by TPo or conservation if they are Damaged then they can be covered by common law ie criminal damage , especially if your actions as a trades person can be thus demonstrated & In theory you may well be culpable & potentially put before a criminal court.
