  1. for those who take issue ranting here won't do any good, perhaps you might ask your MP's thoughts or start a petition on the number 10 website
  2. pete ,, now really are you trying to convince us or you ...? Lol Yep the conditions have been favourable for all involved, however, times they are a changing as to the if you cant compete comment above I reserve comment on that as it is quite naughty having a stab at other Arbs , just because of their employer A very generalised & very misguided comment ,, In my experience in many aspects of life, there's good & theres crap wherever you go.
  3. Morning Pete ... enjoy your day mate:thumbup: but its not for free really is it ,, the taxpayer foots the bill incurred to provide the structure , before it happens rather than a client paying a public or private contractor after the fact. I dont make the point to have a bash I merely comment on a perception ,, whic h can also have the flip side that rather than lose staff after having budgets slashed the La look to get work from wherever they can and that appear to some to be a commercial approach from a public body,, duallity ?
  4. I think the issue that comes through is , the abilitiy to potentially gain works through a staff or equipment profile which is paid for, by the public purse, by doing so putting at risk the stability of companies who have no such financial under pinning. as How can non public funded companies be expected to fairly compete against an organisation whose Directors, Managers, HR , IT, Supervisors, Staff, Equipment, Machinery, PPE, Tools Vehicles, Resource, Infrastructure, training budget, fuel. are all provided to them for FREE by the UK tax payer or EU moneys., Any suggestion as to Quite how these public monies could ever be differentiated into distinct apsects , of their own use & that of neighbouring clients for which they make a charge is frankly unrealistic, especially at delivery level on smaller scale tasks who pays for the fuel & wages that are used to visit & price for work ? especially if the works arent won , as no income is forth coming ,which means a direct draw on a budget to pay for the outlay. & the budget is paid for by The Taxpayer whether these monies are Eu support, Central government funds or even local council tax funds Pqq & itt processes are a extremely time consuming administrative process,! so who pays for the officer who sits through those ??? INTERESTING times ahead for La's & private firms alike.
  5. seen it with County councils , borough councils & now even housing associations all have some funding from the public purse & are therefore artificially helped to compete it doesn’t always mean they are competitive though, however as buyers institutions are in the unique position to potentially ask external commercial company’s for quotes to do work & in theory they could then use that same commercial information for themselves to bid on other work....which potentially could be against those very same companies.. another second tier of the public sector ,, this time pushing the commercial guys further to the wall seems like a mad thought but why not do the rational thing & only have the staff & equipment for their own publiclly funded need......... hey ho
  6. Na not yet ,, not sure whether full timers or subbie free lance is the way to go Great to employ people but... real happy to get the right team built up, just have to work out what is ....Right hows things with you ?
  7. Hello Dan if overseas is your destination, talk to the forces resettlement guys & they shold be able to talk you through, whats the best qual dependant on your choice of country as to earning , thtas all down to experience & your willingness to work hard , trees as a career is great BUT isnt all about shinny new kit. a lesson that can come hard to those who are mis guided quals start with chainsaw maintenance > Small felling > cs38 aerial rescue then woodchipper > stumpgrinder or aerial units. & perhaps mewp the more you have the better an employer will view your CV B+E trailer driving / towing is a distinct advantage rgds Iain
  8. Dan send me a pm with quals & rates, we're in Cleveland iain
  9. the course does not cover all of that aspect, snedding the branches off a smaller tree is covered in Cs31 & crosscutting to stack & limb breakdown of larger tree canopys is covered in cs32 the main implication is the issue in regard to the stored energy held within the tree & its limbs this energy can be released when you cut & this can then cause the servered limb to whip out and strike you ,trap you , cause the stem to move, through or trap your saw,, etc etc also if wind blown that is covered by a later course due to further complications they are potentially very dangerous if its a pre sned log then thats different as cs30 covers crosscutting. tension & compression. best bet is get the first done & see how you feel about the next one however some providers do offer a discount if done together ,, this very much depends on you though take it at your own pace as a joint course is quite a lot of theory, both maintenance & practical saw use related, coupled with the felling apsect you can search the lantra & nptc websites & read up from there, to get an idea of what you are letting yourself in for.. rgds iain
