  1. That has got to be it Tony, there's a Roman Villa under there.
  2. Old? New to me when I travel back in time, endless turning through space time, probably.
  3. Yeah OP double braid splice, cross over is a slight pain, I use a rubber mallet to loosen the throat and lots of bending and flexing.
  4. Yeah, he is fussy about that type of thing but he is right.
  5. That's really good, shame about the Thompson Twins tune.
  6. Fly is not an easy splice I have been told, not done one myself, Marlow braid is a three strand rope with a braided cover, Ocean Polyester is tight but easy enough, I think you'll manage that one with no problems. I did one yesterday and some Liros Runner, now that is easy. Notice the splice on the left, the frapping turns cross? Nick from WI spotted that straight away.
  7. Top one is Beal rope I think, I'm not sure but I don't think you can splice it, I thought the other one was Fly but it looks like a double braid to me, maybe?
  8. I agree, I paid £600 for a replacement, peace of mind though.
  9. Mr Steve, I recently contacted the H.S.E on the very subject regarding being hoisted by the crane or 'riding the ball' as it's called after the rather difficult crane operator nearly spat the dummy when I asked him for a lift up on my last crane job, he gave a ride but was mumbling about it being illegal and if anybody caught you you would be in serious trouble, etc, etc, anyway here was the H.S.E response. Thank you for your enquiry regarding being lifted by a crane. The HSE has not produced specific information on being lifted by a crane. However, if an employee is working at height then the following will apply. The following information has been taken from the HSE free leaflet 'The Work at Height Regulations 2005, a brief guide': Blah, blah, blah and so on, I would have thought that as the crane company takes no responsibility for anything that happens when they are on site, (I believe the hirer takes all responsibility) Then it would be up to the hirer to decide.
  10. A bunch.
  11. I remember Reg asking if anybody could remember what the device was a few years ago, I have it in a old magazine somewhere. Edit...Was it the Haultz? Site link no longer works.
  12. 10:30 was way too early for one particular gentleman in WSM.
  13. Tree torching was pretty common around here for a while.
  14. For a little relief, if its lower back, lie on your side with a pillow between your knees, this will ease the pressure,I go to an osteopath when my back goes properly, otherwise it's physio, stretching, less climbing and copious amounts of beer.
  15. Don't do it.
  16. Click on, 'into trees' in the first post, you will see the photo competition tab at the top of the site page, click that and it will give you all the details including the email address that you can send your pictures to. Good luck.
  17. Will it go off bang if you cut the wrong wire, I mean turn the wrong screw?
  18. I think it's pretty normal to have some milking in a double braid rope.
  19. My PI line milked about the same Rich, I really like it, my Tachyon stays at home.
  20. Well done, you must be crazy splicing all day long.
  21. Cheaper than the bollard or GRCS?
  22. I thought you had used one Mike. Price here, Brems- und Ablassgeräte
  23. My groundie left today to work at the silent disco until Sunday, the friend I do crane work for set up all the lights etc in the trees up by the green field, a new buisness venture that seems to be doing well.
  24. It is proper pretty. http://www.treebuzz.com/forum/download.php?Number=271703
