Size... years ago there was a spate of UFO sighting, turns out to be night light hot air balloons. No terms of reference in the sky, but the wind blows the burner about making them 'dart about the sky really quickly'. Turns out Father Ted was right - those UFOs are far away, these hot air balloons are close.

Nessie was famously a model but photo taken close up with no background to give scale.

Same for big cats, you need a term of reference for size - so when you say things like single track road that gives more credibility. As above, there have been a few shot but that doesn't prove or disprove a breeding population - most of the sightings are adults but that makes sense too since the babies are often hidden away. Sitting on the fence with big cats

Big foot however... IF you were in the US and IF you were out hunting and IF you accidentally shot one and IF you pit it into your truck you'd be set for life, the hunting types know this, and yet, none have ever had this kind of accident....  wonder why

So, Dowsing, water divining. That's another interesting one, I should have included that on the list.

Some old country boys swear by it for finding springs in fields, or lost drains or pipes.

There is no conspiracy about water divining. I’ve found many a pipe and land drain with them, the last one I marked on the floor before the cat and genie arrived, I was under a ft out and would of found it with digger in the same hole.

That said some people can’t do it for love nor money, my missis reckons she has the wrong magnetic field about her compared to me!

Water companies use it every now and then so must be a thing

I can dowse with wire but as for the forked Hazel...🤔

Fork that! I’ve seen it done but I can’t get anything from it either.

Welding rods all the way for me. Knock the flux off and put a 90deg bend in them and you’re away.

I find making sure both rods are the same length seems to give better results tho.

My wife and I can both do it with welding rods. Interestingly when she finds a pipe both rods move equally, but with me the rod in my right hand swings a lot more strongly. Weird, but true. Apparently you can also get a response to a "set line" This is, for example, the shadow caused by something like an electricity pole, and the line is where the shadow is strongest.

The scientific evidence shows that dowsing is no more effective than random chance.[10][11] It is therefore regarded as a pseudoscience.

Interesting  list of all the studies that have being done into it...non that really found it to work.

Remember Welsh water sent a guy out he was  dowsing to find our neigbours water pipe guy was 100% cofident it worked  - then he failed completely.

Odd that something so strange and unscientific with not known mechanism still has so many people who believe  -ive not seem first hand anyone do it sucessfully - but know that many say they can etc.
