Seen it all today - was setting up at the Yorkshire show and there was a valmet and roof mount from one of the local arb companies there moving some timber around in the forestry arena - HMRC took a proper interest in him and are currently deliberating over whether or not he should be on white as it was for hire and reward and they tried to say it wasn't forestry usage :confused1:

slight aside, I stopped off for some breakfast at Mcd's on the way this morning and that's where all the HMRC lot had met up too and it seemed from their not so quiet banter that they were going to be on a proper scalp hunting mission at the show - even heard them going on about dipping a landy the day before just after it had crashed

Can't fault the sentiment there. Just to play Devil's advocate for a mo does anyone know what would be the legal position on running a diesel-engined machine on domestic heating oil? (I know the manufacturers' advice on the matter but know of two small Kubotas that have been running on it for 10 years).

heating oil in a diesel engine??? i wouldnt.. i know of a lad that used it in his escort van for 4 months and it burnt his valves out...

then he was told by a diesel fitter that heating oil burns alot hotter than diesel:sneaky2:

1. I carry out verge-cutting on public roads for the local authority. Can I use a tractor licensed as an agricultural machine and running on red diesel on the public road?

Yes, this activity is specifically permitted in the agricultural tractor definition.

2. I carry out hedge-cutting on public roads for the local authority. Can I use a tractor licensed as an agricultural machine and running on red diesel on the public road?

Yes, this activity is specifically permitted in the agricultural tractor definition.

3. I carry out hedge-cutting for local companies in our industrial area. Can I use a tractor licensed as an agricultural machine and running on red diesel on the public road?

No, not unless the hedges are bordering public roads, or if the work is on agricultural land. If the hedges are off-road in an industrial area then you must use white diesel to travel to the site.

A very fine dividing line, one day your hedge cutting on a public road then the next day with the same tractor and kit you are on a Ind Est, what are you supposed to do with the red diesel that's already in the tank, no point putting white in because it will become tainted. I guess you could produce a fuel receipt dated for the day you have done the work showing you bought some white but it would not alter the fact you have red diesel in the tank.

A minefield!.

i think we should be very careful in the promotion of the illegal useage of (cherry derv) as a few people on hear have commented, a previouse thread was stopped on grounds of illegal or unpropper conduct a few members who criticised another on that are promoting this! im sure tax evasion would be delt with alot tougher concequences than the former, im sure mr bullmen your not promoteing the useage of mixed derv?
