Hernia

Thanks Mick.

Proper recovery is key, but ultimately I hope to be able to do more physically, not less, certainly in terms of climbing etc.

I will definitely ease back on the handballing of heavy timber though, pretty sure that’s what wrecked me.

Good luck and proper recovery means doing nothing that might tear the ongoing repair, never picking up high weights again is a start, let the fit people do it without straining.

Agree with all the above points - after 6 hernias and three ops I know recovery time is essential even though you’ll be itching to get back to work. Stopped doing fencing as the concrete post lifting had done me no favours and never handball heavy logs anymore. Cut smaller and/or two man lift. Better still machine lift.

wish you a speedy recovery 👍

Aye, machine power is definitely the way forward for me.

I’ve still got some lumps up the yard that I hand balled onto the truck years ago and I look at them in disbelief.

It’s a wonder my guts didn’t fall out of my arse years ago.

When I’m fully fit I’ll do my strength training with weights in a more controlled environment, and do more core and body weight gym stuff (my garage gym is pretty well equipped now).

Weirdly I was hitting PB’s on the bench AFTER my hernias were diagnosed.

100kg x 4 and 80kg x 15 earlier this week.

A wake up call to us all Mark to not over do it ... hope recovery goes well for you. Invested in a vertical splitter a few years back myself to breakdown wood into manageable pieces.

Had one a few years mate.

I was hoping we could wheel it into gardens to split metre sections into billets, but it’s such a pita to move onto the truck I’d probably get another hernia!

I’m intending to take off two full weeks, then only pricing for two weeks after that.

I’ll join the team again after that but only for driving and tipping duties.

Two weeks of that, then ease back into it.

Seeing the Consultant again in 8 weeks, so I’ll listen to him very carefully.

He is a big advocate of keeping as mobile as I can without overdoing it.

All sorted today fellas, back home now.

Consultant really pleased how it went.

The tear on my rhs is the yellow area top right in the first pic.

Thanks for all the good advice, appreciated.

Good luck next week Darrin.
