yes, I could say all of that about myself. pretty much every word.

one bad thing I've noticed is that, although i'm more patient than ever with strangers, I'm becoming increasingly grumpy towards people I love.  tbh I hate that change and i'm sure it's not normal, but haven't yet learnt the self-discipline to overcome it

Think it’s called a mid life something or other!

That just adds weight to my theory that I was born old if that's one of the symptoms.

....You remember when the Mini was actually a small car.

....You remember fiddling with a choke on a car on cold mornings.

....You remember buying a porno mag in the shops.

....You wanted Jimmy "to fix it for you".

.....You expected jetliners to crash as soon as the clock hit midnight on NYE 1999

.... You remember when you thought Tony Blair was ok.

Anymore?

All but the last one. Always thought he was  a smarmy lying git.

Ooh and didn't have to buy the porno's as there were plenty chucked into our hedges to peruse

Policeman’s dads look younger than you.

That was some time ago, then it was Prime Ministers and now it is members of the House of Lords and High Court Judges!

I find it disturbing when teenagers know little about the World Wars.  I spoke to one the other day who thought they were fought between England and France.

Remembering  "Torchie the Battery Boy" and hiding behind the sofa when Dr Who unscrewed the head of a Dalek.  That was about the same time I remember hearing of President Kennedy's assassination.  And of course the Winter of '63

Learning hand signals for my driving test and seeing many cars with semaphore indicators.

Remembering "Roll-ins" playing grass hockey, and using drop kicks to convert a try in Rugby.

Remembering mods and rockers, the names of the Beatles in the beginning, seeing Jimi Hendrix for the first time and being shocked that his hair looked like a haystack when in fact it looks nearly normal now in those early photos.

Seeing a belt drive thrashing machine on the farm working with dried peas which had been put up on tripods to dry.

More "shiny" hairs than normal colour.
Or when you look up and unexpectedly see your own reflection, and wonder who the old guy staring at you is?

When you catch yourself in the mirror and see your Dad.

<snip> I almost get annoyed that there is not enough time to learn more. Just me or is this a universal thing?

Nope, me too.

I realised the other day I would probably never read Dombey and Son, or Bleak House, or Lord Jim, or Tess, or The Woman in White again which made me rather sad.

To answer the op: when you realise there's no point in saving your money so you can go out and buy every bloody shiney thing you ever wanted whether you need it or not and not give a damn.

Happy Days!!!
