Question for the specialist air gunners out there . Daystate Red Wolf sub 12ftlbs .22 . 25 yard indoor target . Always used Rangemaster Soverein 15. 89 grain pellets as recommended by Daystate . Made by JSB for Daystate . Just lately I have found them to be inconsistent . On Ebay I found a tin of New old stock Daystate pellets ( with Daystate on the tin ) same 15.89 grain so I bought them . If you examine the two pellets there is no visible difference . Tonight I put 22 pellets ( 11 per mag ) through two targets side by side at 25 yds with the the NOS Daystate branded pellets . Punched the middle out of both targets . Pretty much all went through the same hole . Immediately did the same with the Rangemaster Sovereign pellets and got some " flyers " and shit grouping Nothing in the bull and some in the 9 . 8 and 7 but but up , down left and right . Some of it could be me but I doubt it . Thoughts ?

There's a saying about horse radish. Something like: once you've got it, you've got it forever. That's certainly the case in my experience. Not complaining though, it's great stuff. Amazingly potent when fresh. Nothing better for clearing the sinuses!

A fairly recent auction of JCB odds and sods from the factory also unusually had quite a few lots that had come from a harbour somewhere 🤔 JCB are committed to the Hydrogen economy so it would not be that surprising if they had identified Milford Haven as the ideal place to berth ammonia tankers from sunnier climes.

Then zigzagging like he knows what to do, three or four pheasants. I praise him and riding high on the adrenaline and my satisfaction he bounces across the field like a blesbok, springing three feet straight up and down, not in slow motion but as if the world just stopped for a moment to marvel at it. Magnificent. Pissed myself to the point I couldn’t blow the whistle.

If you block the fuel inlet to the carb, just put your thumb over it and create a vacuum on the primer side, put some fuel pipe on it and suck you should not be able to draw air through, if you can you either have a hole in the pump gasket or usually a bad check valve.

Yes. When wood smoulders, with no flame burning the offgas, what is happening is the fire is hot enough to pyrolyse wood but not hot enough to reach the autoignition temperature of the offgas. Nascent char is oxidising to give off enough heat to sustain its combustion but largely without flame . Thus the acrid smoke going up the chimney condenses on the cold chimney as pyroligneous acid. This can eat mortar. I think it is slightly worse with hardwoods as it contains acetic acid (wood vinegar). Before organic chemistry took off pyrolysing beech was a major source of acetic acid. In 2002 I was snagging a large woodchip boiler at a department store in Milton Keynes where they had been burning rejected/returned flat pack furniture and one part of the flue had become too cool. Here is a picture of a 316 stainless steel single skin pipe that had been perforated by the acid that condensed, though in this case I think it was probably hydrochloric acid from some plastics that were associated with the furniture.
