I was shorted £5k for a chipper by one of the main arb insurance players who advertise heavily. My mate was hit (container) and they paid out £8k for £40k’s worth of kit. You need locks, alarms, cameras, more alarms, more locks, 12b black powder mines, the list goes on. Never rely on one single thing. You are up against professional gypsies, sorry, thieves, who now have every tool at their disposal. Grinders, gas axes, tracker detectors, night vision etc. If they want it and it’s there, it’s gone. I’m not being a pessimist, but if you are putting all your kit in a container that’s in a yard ‘with some locked gates’ and leaving trailers out in the open it’s not a question of ‘if’, it’s a question of ‘when’.

Cheers, Rich. Our approaches coincide. Not remotely looking forward to it but good opportunity to do a nice job on a very visible tree. Hugs and kisses. Dissolve the state.

After a whole week of unnessasary stress.. the re-sent DPD ladder changed from "at depot", to "returning to sender". I sped off to rescue them, no time to find straps for the roof rack, they would have to fit in the car! Neither DPD or DX could give me any rational explaination. Got them home. Got the comical cardboard wrapping into the recycling. Its not perfect, theres a small dent on the top rung and the weld quality is hidden by the plastic covers. At 8 rungs its very stable. I'll find somewhere better and without sandles before I try 15 rungs, but it would give a working height near roof level of the average house.

I have finally got everything lined up -track, loading area and felling licence- to take down 3- 4 acres of mixed Norway spruce and Thuja plicata that I own close to Chippenham in North Wiltshire. I don't know who to try to sell it to. Any suggestions please? Some of the Norway Spruce it is quite chunky by now are there any upper diameter limits that most buyers have? I don't have a forwarder, so I think I will need to get someone in to get the logs to the loading area. Again all suggestions welcome. Thanks.

Year . I got a couple of those . I call it a tap spanner so as not to confuse it with the tool for holding a tap to cut an internal thread . Also called a " tap wrench " 🙂

Can anyone recommend a manual tyre changing tool for small tyres?
woody paul replied to Muddy42's topic in Maintenance help
Never had a problem if a puncher needs mending anything from barrow to 38in tractor but just get company to fit new on truck and trailers., Went to have a ifor williams trailer tyre mended once and fitter said you can't do them with leavers, I said why so once he broke bead he handed me two leavers and said have ago, that was a challenge I was not going to miss. After about a couple of minutes tyre had parted from wheel and tyre fitter stood there shaking his head, he had set challenge to others and most only got one side off. -
Thanks for that. I guess I'll have a do at making some smaller pieces for local shows then. I've been advised to use social media by other people for selling slabs/boards and mobile milling services so I might try that too but, as you say, it's very time consuming.

I believe the issue is now sorted. Blocked jets being the cause. I took the fuel tank and top of the carb off, sprayed carb cleaner in all the holes and then used the airline to blow them through. The engine now idles and runs on maximum well. I'm yet to chip with it so the engine hasn't been loaded yet. But provisionally, I'd say issue is resolved.

Rifles you regret selling !! I guess most on here will have sold something then regretted it later. For me it was a Sako TRG 41 many years ago when 338 Lapua Magnum was a relatively new round. Bought it through a pal in Finland as a personal import. Super cheap at the time as the pound was strong against the Finnish mark, especially compared to GMKs price for one. Ammo was £56 for 20 back then. Sadly no pics but came across the paperwork whilst clearing out some crap recently. I often wonder if it’s out there still annoying the people on adjacent lanes as the muzzle blast was pretty fierce to say the least.

... and like all rules, there are exceptions.... We've got topped limes in the churchyard which have dropped bits, but yes I guess once they get to a certain size they do knit in.
