Thats the thing though , Alkylate fuel does not attack rubber components . Pump fuel does take the coating off but keeps the rubber supple because its slowly attacking it , When people switch to an alkylate fuel and the rubber fails they automatically blame the alkylate fuel as the rubber now has no coating on it to keep it supple and has gone brittle . The alkylate fuel is only showing up what the pump fuel has been doing . Use an alkylate fuel from the get go , no problems . If changing to an alkylate fuel after prolonged pump fuel use , change out rubber components ,

Huskys are known to use poor quality Orings on the carbs accelerator pump. My cs340 was only a couple months old, only a few tanks through her when the carb failed. Motomix and aspen would have rotted the oring just the same.

Passed me by but it seems the RRP is no longer available, I guess natural product progression for Notch to want us all to buy the more expensive replacement. Bit annoying then to have to spend extra on pulley kit to get the features of the old one.

Anecdotal evidence of course but my local supermarket petrol 'does the job' but the one with 'Bigger Prices' is far superior - a few more mpg in the car. Could be something in that. All the base petrol comes from the same refinery of course, but different companies put different additives in to make it their own. Supermarkets are less likely to add so much. Of course small local garage might not sell the quantities as a bigger one - could be something there too.

All small log splitters will leek or weep oil- often they dont have a big enough hydraulic oil tank or no hydraulic oil cooler, problem with them getting over worked, Im dubious about ifor trailers due to a local dealership now saying they've been brought out by the chinese and them not stocking ifor because of this. So in essence what im saying is you might be replacing it with more over priced chinese junk. I dont know who id recommend in the way of machines seens the are alot stopped by eu legislation or brexit importing to the UK .

Sullivan's Engineering make a well regarded properly road towable splitter, they're in Ireland so was thinking maybe in the EU with you but looked them up just now and they are in the North. Might be someone that takes them south across the border though and you could order in Euros?

Look for an M500, the chipper pushing itself around is a really good feature especially up into the trailer at the end of the day. They're solid built from proper parts so you can get spares, bearings etc either from Global or direct from suppliers. Mine is at least 15 years old, will keep repairing it for a long while yet.

For a genuine road tow, they are significantly less expensive than the French Rabaud or the excellent AMR brand. No experience of Balfour. Currently I own a generic Xhinesium 'towable' (basically a Rock Machinery 22t) I loan it to clients as a sweetener, to encourage them to keep their wood. It's a very popular initiative, saving the hire and transport of a similar hire machine at €120 per day Trouble is, although I tow it, it's not legal and the two hand security feature which is different from the UK versions, made the operation fatiguing until the metal deformed and fortunately disabled it without impairing the machines function. The Xhinesium has so far split all three hoses, rattles terribly whilst being towed and has developed a leak on top of the hydraulic valve block. The wheels don't have sealed bearings and these are pretty basic too. I dismantle and grease them every few months. Regardless, the machine has certainly earned its keep for me and helped win alot of work. Stuart

Price jobs accordingly - travel time is within their work hours anything outside of that is overtime. If the moneys not on the job doing it that way you cannot expect your employees to make up for that

The super prof is a great machine. 18hp with a feed roller and will shred up to 4” happily. I bought a year 2000 one last year and I’m looking at replacing it with the newer tracked version. The only fault I’ve found is their cost vs other small chippers.

Over the past six or seven years I switched to boas with all my shoes, I will never go back. It's just priceless not to deal with strings on muddy job sites with the stumpy, or opening the shoes one handed while balancing the groceries in the other when coming home. After maybe 2 years of 70-80% daily use, the wires tend to break but the warranty service by boa is fabulous and taking 30 minutes to replace them is still worth it.
